8:14 I absolutely love this clip. It disappeared from KZbin for a while and now it's back. Is there more to it? I thought it was almost 30 minutes long. I bought British Transport Films on DVD and I would certainly buy this one as well

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?" kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoCyZZ-oicifhLs

Modern narrowboat youtubers will have a fit at this. Boat in gear against the top gates, whipping the paddles up quickly, dropping paddles without a windlass...done properly!
@stevejones97883 жыл бұрын
All done highly efficiently with no wasted effort and they didn't abuse the equipment. Notice how he dropped the paddle but slowed it down before it hit the bottom.

@bagginz75084 жыл бұрын
The motor boat and the butty each have a cabin. Both boats have a coal stove.

JACOB TAYLOR They were much worse then, all those boats had no black water tanks and every factory next to the cut dumped its wet waste straight in.

Flip it took 4 _hours_ to load two boats with maybe 50 tonnes? Never mind the speed the boats travel at that must have been a significant bottleneck at a wharf.
@peterdawson26454 жыл бұрын
From what I've read, that was a significant factor in the final decline of narrowboat transport. Actual speed of transit isn't such a big deal if you've got a continuous stream of boats moving. Also of course so much of the traffic was coal.

I ride horses. But this made me cry. Of course, all domestic animals are bought, but this is something else...something underneath all this is pure greed and done in a crass way. I see those horses, paraded around pulled left right and centre, people bidding on them...to me every one of them is worth gold in their own right..but it's reduced to the highest bidder.. these horses have no control their life depends on someone buying them and pray it's a good person...and foals at foot in the auction room should never be allowed.

these are welsh cobs going for over £1,000. There is a breed society and everyone more or less knows everyone. Of course they sell them for money, they are pedigree breeders. this isn't a slaughter house auction.

The 'blankets' are called 'aprons'They are intended for two purposes - in bygone times, when waterproof trousers were not as affective as those made from modern-day fabrics, aprons provided warmth and protection. Also in today's world of traditional carriage driving, shown in the video, aprons contribute to the formal appearance of the carriage, horses, driver and grooms - referred to collectively as "the turnout"

notice that as soon as they are hooked up they go. They are trained to work and as soon as the team is hooked they take off even before the girl was finished dressing. if they stood around getting all the little incidentals took care of the horses would of started getting agitated and started getting spooky.
@kellyellingson23355 жыл бұрын
Rosalie Semrau it looks like possibly two stallions in the hitch. So that would be why they want to get them moving right away as they have not been taught to stand very well and have two is even more difficult
