Their efforts have led to nearly all California State Prisons to have a Muslim chaplain position assigned by the state. I would say it is responsible for guiding thousands and helping reform many lives. Thank you for sharing this important history in our faith and culture!

As Salaam Alaikum! Mr. Elijah Muhammad requested a copy of the Qur’an and which was denied but his wife Sister Clara Muhammad typed pages of the Qur’an and took them to him and his son who also served with him during her visits eventually getting them the entire Qur’an. I thank ALLAH that I was blessed to serve as a volunteer and even a paid Islamic chaplain in the Texas prison system over a period of more than 30 years. I have been inside more than 50 prisons in the state of Texas and feel honored to have been blessed to do such a service. I worked with Imam Eugene Farooq,(retired Muslim chaplain) Akbar Shabazz who was the first paid Muslim prison chaplain in the state of Texas(he passed during the Covid-19 era after serving 40years), imams Haywood Talib,(retired chaplain) of Houston, Omar Shakir,(retired chaplain) of San Antonio, my Hajji Brother, Hasan Rasheed(retired, now deceased prison chaplain), Omar Shareef, Jama Shabazz(Deceased volunteer) Mu’izz Muhammad(Volunteer), imam Fahmi Al-Uqdah, Marvin Muhammad ( current paid chaplain), and many others including sisters who helped in the Prison Da’wa. I can’t recall all of the names right now but I thank all of them for their service. Plus, the champ. Muhammad Ali visited teo prisons with us in 1986, Hakeem “The Dream”Olajuwon in the mid 1990s.. sheikhs from Egypt for years during Ramadan. One brother got out and published a book called “Thanks to Prison.” Thank you for sharing this. Please forgive me for being so long winded in this subject. Again, As Salaam Alaikum!!

I seek refuge with Allah from the evil insinuations of The Rejected, Accursed Shaitan. With the assistance of Allah’s name The Merciful Benefactor, the Merciful Redeemer; As-Salaam-u laka (The Peace from the Source of The Peace that passes understanding be on you; used by Allah to Gideon in Arabic Bible Judges 6:23). Signs of The Living and The Dead Spiritually, and Physically Now and Later Suurah (Chapter) Faatir, 35: Whoever desires honor, then all honor lies with Allah alone. Towards Him ascends the pure word, and the righteous deed uplifts it. 1 As for those who plot evils, for them there is a severe punishment, and their plot itself will perish. (10) Allah has created you from dust, then from a drop of semen, then He made you couples. Surely all this is easy for Allah. (11) And two seas are not alike; this one is sweet, saturating, pleasant to drink, and that one is salt, bitter. (12) He makes the night enter into the day and makes the day enter into the night, and He has subjugated the sun and the moon; each one of them is running towards an appointed time. That is Allah, your Lord. To Him belongs the kingdom. And those whom you invoke beside Him do not own even the membrane on a date-stone. (13) If you call them, they do not hear your call, and even if they were to hear, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Judgment they will deny your having held them as Allah’s partners. And none can inform you like Him who is Aware. (14) O men, you are the ones who need Allah, and Allah is Free-of-All-Needs, the Ever-Praised. (15) If He so wills, He can do away with you and bring a new creation. (16) For Allah, that is not something difficult. (17) No bearer will bear the burden of any other person. If a person carrying a heavy load calls (someone) to (share) his load, nothing from it shall be carried (by the latter), even though he be a near of kin. You can warn only those who fear their Lord, while He is unseen, and establish Salah. Whoever gets purified gets purified for his own benefit. And to Allah is the final return. (18) The blind and the sighted are not equal, (19) Nor are darkness and light, (20) Nor shade and heat of the sun. (21) And the living and the dead are not alike. Allah makes to hear whomsoever He wills. And you cannot make to hear those who are in the graves. (22) You are but a warner. (23) Surely We have sent you with truth as a bearer of good news and as a warner, and there was no community without a warner having passed among them. (24) Suurah (Chapter) Al-Anbiyaa’, 21: Surely, you and whatever you worship other than Allah are the fuel of Jahannam. 23 There you will have to arrive. (98) Had they been gods, they would not have arrived at it, and all of them will remain there forever. (99) For them, there will be screams in it and they will not hear.
