Thank you! I never knew about that website with the paper minis. I wonder how much the process could be streamlined by a cricut cutter or something.

Seems like the Printable Heroes site has a download option for a file type that is for crickets and such. I could be mistaken.

Back when I used to use paper minis, I would make separate bases that I would glue a washer or coin to the bottom of. This kept the paper minis from scattering everywhere if someone coughed or walked by fast as paper minis are very light and will get kicked around by the slightest disturbance.

This was great to consider, not everyone can afford/wants a 3d printer and as you mentioned for some minis getting a plastic mini for a 1 use npc might be too much effort even with a printer. Also continually impressed with your editing skills.

The hottest thing about paper minis is that they can have two prints for each side. Since I play more strategy games than rpgs I had to learn to differentiate all my minions by their backside 😅
@SquareTableUnion10 күн бұрын
Totally, I’ve just started writing want each unit is on the back side of the base. It is even more complicated with strategy games because similar looking models can have different weapons and upgrades.
@TableTopDateNight13 күн бұрын
wow those shadow stalker models look way cooler printed out! And I like the saturated colors of the elf at the end. I get that the desaturated colors look more natural, especially with your cool looking terrain, but the bright saturated models look good too. Especially playing, i find it easier to "read" the bright saturated models on the table. I say that and yet half of my models are still black primed haha!
@SquareTableUnion13 күн бұрын
Yeah, one day I’ll gravitate back to brighter cools when I get better at painting 😆

Drau is how you pronounce it. Der-ough. Evil elves that live deep under the surface and have done so for so long that the sun blinds them. I just finished 3 of these guys, and I'm only now realizing I painted them purple and gray like you did. It just works on these models. Though I didn't go with gold for the metallics, but a cobalt like blue. What are you using to keep the colored pencil from rubbing off?
@SquareTableUnion15 күн бұрын
I spray my models with a matte clear. Only one or two thin coats to keep the skinniness down and also if the coat is runny, the color pencil will wash off. I know shininess bugs some people but it doesn’t really bother me and I’d rather have a little protection.

What a great video with such a heatwarming tone ! My brother and I discovered OPR two years ago, after 20 years of not playing GW games (college, life, all that stuff). I love how easy it is to get into the game. We even caught the interest of our highschool WH40k mates who dusted off their old marines and discovered you can learn a game in 15 min and play a party in 2 hours ! (And I also fell back into GW's Lord of the Rings game because apparently I'm unredeamable :D)

I like the update idea! Funny, I started resin printing with a halot Mage 8k, too. I prefer the hinge lid like the halot Mage, but I think it's implemented better by the uniformation GKtwo. It looks like it seals better too. The Mars printers with the lift lid smell less because they hold the fumes in, but I've found some opr terrain and larger pieces like the sisters tank body don't fit on a Mars. Oh well. And yes, FDM is awesome for terrain!

Controversial? The colour pencils are a genius Idea.
@SquareTableUnion23 күн бұрын
Thanks, I’ve discovered later that if you decide to clear coat the model with a spray, do it in very thin layers or it can make the color pencil runny. So just be aware.

You said in the video that you took your setup to the beach. Surely paper minis and scenery would blow over in the wind if you play outdoors?

No we didn’t play outdoors, I took it to the beach house we rent. I probably should have specified.

When making a new army paper minis are great to try out. Looking for an easy way of making some bases that are a bit more sturdy then folding them though, as i often end up goving them away so others can tey the army out.

The question is not why should you, but why should you not. One look at my home, and it is clear I CAN afford models. But, I sure ain't in a hurry to become a cash slave to GW. Nor Hasbro either. Paper minis are fun, and the weight is nice and storage simple. I have gone from 35th scale to 48th scale to 72nd scale in the search for how to collect more and not need a larger home. I've even considered GHQ and 285th scale. So, yeah, it should be no surprise I have a growing collection of paper wargaming. For someone to scorn my paper for a wargame, would be to laugh at them and tell them, fine, play with yourself.
@SquareTableUnion25 күн бұрын
It has been interesting reading the comments and how polarizing some people can be. I have fun with both. I’m still collecting actual models, and storage and space is definitely becoming a problem.
@grizzlyblackpowder196025 күн бұрын
This whole comment section, and the channel its attatched to seems to be doing more to destroy wargaming than making it accessible for everyone. If you print your models(paper or otherwise) and then dowload the rules you are essentially stealing from the creators. Heavy dislike.
@SquareTableUnion25 күн бұрын
This video features products from creators such as One Page Rules and Printable Hero’s. Both creators offer both free and paid content. I personally am subscribed to both and pay them monthly. It is not stealing if they are giving it away as stater packs. So I’ll need to disagree with you about destroying wargaming. I’m actually helping to promote small business. I will agree that self printing takes away from store owners, but that is something that but us players and store owners need to adapt to.

Great work promoting paper mini's. Resin/plastic mini's are ridiculously expensive these days. Convincing younger players that they are good enough to use instead of the "real thing" though is a different matter!

The Human Empire is a new army being released in sets by OPR on their Patreon monthly. When the release is finished, OPR will start on a new army and then usually release the finished army (Human Empire) for free later on Drivethrurpg. So the options are to wait a month or so for free minis or join the OPR Patreon for $5 a month.

Yes someone else expressing the vitues of 2D printing! Which what no one takes about is how cheap and fast it is to have littlerly thusends of 25mm minis! Like I can fit a good hundred or so on a page and have an ecotank printer so I pay $35 for 4 bottles of ink and even with my old inkjet being $100 it was faster so more cost efftive because time... Not that a single sheet costs all that much time mind you and alternivly you could just write the name of the unit on note paper and use them which has to be the cheapest way to wargame beyond theater of the mind.
