It's a Folbe mount it works very well. The following link it for the size I'm pretty certain I use. It's a little bigger than the Hobie rail. To make a tight and very secure fit I used a piece of rubber around the rail. www.folbe.com/fishing-rod-holders/fishing-rod-holder-mounts/universal-rail-mount-kit-1-1.250-square-rails.html. This is by far the most secure and solid mount I've found, and I've tried a few of them.

My preferred launch point is Shannon Creek with Swift Creek and Panorama point as good alternatives. During Sockeye season you have to be a registered camper to launch from Shannon. A reservation is not required for the other launch sites. Any caught under 18" are considered Kokanee and can be kept in addition to any Sockeye you catch. Everything over 18" is a Sockeye and you can keep two per day. No you don't need to pinch your barb. Good luck!

Live Sand Shrimp is my preferred bait. They are fragile and hard to keep alive for long. If I'm going to be there for a longer period of time I'll use cured coonstripe shrimp as a second choice.

Hi Craig, For the Aka's it's possible you could have someone make them. The plans provide good instructions for making them and aren't as hard to make as you might think. I think the hardest part was cutting the ends to the correct length and angle. Depending on direction the waves/chop is coming it will most likely still be a wet ride with a 2' chop. I use an Anderson bailer to drain the water. It will gravity drop to waterline and as long as you are going four or more knots it will suck the water out.

Hi Alex, It was nice meeting you too. Are you using banana weights or a sliding weight? I think the sliding weight will show the bite better than a fixed weight. Keeping the rods in front of you so you have a good view of them and the proper weight rod. To heavy of a rod and you may not see the bite, but on the other hand to light and you will have taken up all the action of the rod with the weight and drag of your gear and you might not see the bite there either.

Thanks for the response. I was using a sliding weight and did have the rod to the front and side of me. I might be able to get it situated more directly in front. That’s a good point on rod strength. The rod I was using was a Berkley Lighting Rod, 10-20lb, Medium Heavy. The tip is pretty sensitive, and the loading I think was about right, but, that is a very good point on rod sensitivity and weight of the setup possibly making it hard to detect the bite. I hadn’t thought of that before.

Having the dagger board does take away some interior space. There's still room to sleep. Adding the sailing option also adds weight to the boat. The deck over the cabin is more heavily reinforced so you can walk on the deck. The Rowcruiser doesn't need those supports since there's no need to walk on the deck.

@@wckoek If you don't plan on making it a Sailing Rowcruiser that's the way to go. If you're considering it the Daggerboard would be the toughest thing to add later if you decided to convert it. You'd have access to add additional support for the cabin roof and mast mounts but it wouldn't be convenient.

Yes, but it's enough to handle where some prior experience is recommended. Best sailed with at least two. I try to sail solo and it's a bit much to handle solo with the experience I have.

It handles and performs well. The heaviest conditions I've been I was running a full Mizzen aft and a small sail forward (reverse of normal ketch setup) and still maintaining 7-9 KTS. The boat handled the conditions without any issues. The Ama's are small but the design has them constantly driving upward in the water. I was impressed with how well they worked. Space is tight, but definitely expedition capable.

Chris, The trays the downriggers are on were custom made for that purpose. They mount on the into the Boonedox landing gear. The ones in this video are made out of stainless. I'm still making some adjustments for a setup I'm putting on an Old Town AP136. It's using the newer Boonedox groovy landing gear and is made out of aluminum.

I would be curious to see how you do that if you wouldn’t mind sharing. I am also planning on fishing Baker lake this year and all though I don’t think I need to have access to two downriggers, I would like to have a solid base for a1050 because I fish the sound allot for salmon.

@@chunkyboy9624 I'd be happy to show you how it was made and set up. Having the second down rigger is nice to balance the kayak. You'd be surprised how much drag they create. Having on one side only you are continuously steering to compensate for the drag on one side. Add some wind and steering becomes very difficult. To make it work with one you would have to shorten or rotate it closer to the kayak. It's not looking good for Baker this year. I'll be surprised if we get a season.

They are straight up killing this fishery. That is a solid idea to run two for the simple purpose of leveling out your kayak and making the steering a little easier. Especially I’ll be mostly in the sound and running a 6# weight mostly between 90-120 feet down. I wish I could go heavier but I don’t think that would be the best decision.

Most of the major pieces of the boat were bought as a kit through Duckworks. They are CNC cut. You can buy plans and cut yourself. To save time I went the kit route.

Thanks for the comment. That lead to some research. The way the regulations are written "Dolly Varden/Bull Trout" I thought they were the same species. They clearly are not. WDFW shows Baker Lake as having Bull Trout, but as of yet haven't found a list showing what lakes have Dolly Varden. On what I've been able to find out I believe this was a Bull Trout.

I guess it depends on what you consider rough water. Within reason the kayak handles fine in waves, however I have crossed the lake in the dark with a stiff wind and a good chop hitting on the beam. Didn't have any issues, but it was a bit uncomfortable. In strong winds at normal Sockeye trolling speed around 1 MPH it can be hard to steer. There's not enough water over the rudder to over power the effects from the wind and you have to speed up to complete a turn.

Heikki, Thanks for your comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It was a lot of fun to build. As far as the hours I have into it would only be a guess. It was a lot of them. If I recall correctly Collin estimates 200 hours for the expedition cruiser with additional time for the sailing additions. There are a lot of factors that will play into that time. First and foremost is your experience. This was my first time doing any of this. I was learning how to do everything as I progressed through the build (Collins plans provide very good instructions). Second is space. I had a pretty small area to work in and was limited to how many things I could work on at a time. There are points where you need to walk away to let the epoxy cure, so every work session was planned out to get as much work completed before having to walk away. On more than one occasion I could have planned better. Next is how closely you follow Collin’s plans. I deviated from his plans in a few areas. It’s a small boat and his design plans are laid out well with everything where it needs to be. Any deviation from the plans will have consequences. Some good, but most you have to make following unexpected deviations to compensate. One is the biggest deviations I made was a stepped cockpit area for the rowing seat. This led to another main factor that impacts build time. Having build materials on hand when you need them. The way I stepped the seat area made the width between the wheels non-standard. It took a while to find somewhere to get the seat rollers made to a custom width. Anything you need to have made custom takes time. Plan early for them. Some of the other deviations I made were using RDM wind surfing masts instead of the Bic O’Pen masts and the forward mast is mounted forward of the forward bulkhead where the plans call for it on the aft side. The big impact from this is it changed the order of assembly for the boat from Collins plans. Since I wouldn’t have any access to install /align the forward mast once the deck was installed that all had to be done before installing the deck. I would like to build another and feel I could do it in half the time or less than this one took. If you build this boat, one change I would consider would be the sails. I would definitely recommend the RDM Windsurfing masts but would come up with a sail that could be reefed. Wish you the best with your build which every boat you go with.

Doug Shoup wow, thanks for the thorough reply. My use would be inland waters mostly, river on our farm leads to lake system of decent size. It would be a few day treck to the sea with some dams requiring dry passing. And this is in Finland so even sea is quite sheltered by the archipelago, no ocean by any means. So I think the smaller options + tent make more sense for the 1st boat. Also thanks for the info on the sails/masts. I was having hard time finding any info on the sails used on rowcruiser.

I've been lucky and catching fish early. I've been off the water by about 6:30 every day.

If your using a trailer Swift Creek is best option with Panorama being a second choice. If your aren't using a trailer Shannon and Swift are both good options. Shannon is closer to the fishing and a little better site for kayaks to launch, but has very limited parking. Open spots aren't always available.

@@dougshoup593 the biggest fish I ever landed on the west side came out of Baker Lake. 37-1/2" long.

A little slower today, but still great fishing. You'll have a great time. These were early morning bites, so I was pretty shallow. 25-35 feet. I'm using a home made pink hoochie with a sand shrimp.

Hi Rodolfo, I didn't keep real good track of what I put into the boat. I would guess with the pre-cut kit supplies, rigging, and oars, I'm around 7K into materials. This was the first boat I've built and made some mistakes along the way which ended up in my buying some items and materials I didn't end up using. It is really a great little boat and was a lot of fun to build. I did deviate in a few areas from the original plans. It is well designed and everything is in it's place for a reason. Every change I made had some impact on another area, some good some not so good. I'm researching and planning on building another modified one. I'd like to build one with a little longer cockpit and incorporate a pedal drive.

Este fue el primer bote que construí y cometí algunos errores en el camino que terminaron en la compra de algunos artículos y materiales que no terminé usando. Es realmente un gran bote y fue muy divertido de construir. Me desvié en algunas áreas de los planes originales. Está bien diseñado y todo está en su lugar por una razón. Cada cambio que hice tuvo algún impacto en otra área, algunos buenos, otros no tan buenos. Estoy investigando y planeando construir otro modificado. Me gustaría construir uno con una cabina un poco más larga e incorporar una unidad de pedal.

@@EdsPlace Glad you enjoyed the video. $3500 would have been an incredible deal without the trailer. There are areas and ways to save some money but I don't see any way of coming close to that price for the build. It all adds up fast when you have the kit, Fiberglass and resin, Sliding Seat, Oars, Sails, Rigging, Additional lumber (kit doesn't have everything), hardware, and consumables. Hopefully you'll find another one available.

The boat is a blast to sail. In looking into building a modified version. I'm not the greatest rower. So I want to build another with a slightly longer redesigned cockpit and a pedal drive. Boat has a low freeboard its a wet ride.
