Thank you Michi! I lived in the beautiful island of Okinawa for 3 years. I remember eating these while I visited Onna. It was my favorite treat to stop for, they were filled with a hotdog filling in the middle. Have been craving one for a while. Now I can make it and share it with my family. =)

My Mom made the same thing minus the spinach but added miso. I prefer it without miso.

Thanks so much for this. My mother is Okinawan and I remember her making this when I was younger. She has since passed and I never got her to teach me this so it is nostalgic and now I know.

She used: 2 cups of chopped Shiso leaves 1/2 cup soy sauce 1/4 blue agave sugar (Regular sugar would be fine, personally I would use Mirin instead) 1 Tbsp. Hon Dashi powder(Japanese powdered fish soup base made by Ajinomoto)

I made this without spinach or Mai fun; my family liked it; I liked that you added the dashi; didn’t think of that, so I added it; it turned out pretty good. Thank you!
