When you take off the filter the washer is stuck to it and usually thrown away with the filter.

Hi! Although not drilled from factory, your engine seems to have the features for attaching an oil cooler on the engine case. As I've seen that older models doesn't have this I'm therefore curious what year your bike is? If you also happened to know what engine model you have that would be really nice to know.
@FaskaRestoration3 жыл бұрын
What, where? I didn't even know that there existed oil cooling for this model. My model was first registered in (European date) 5.4.1982. Everything is still original. And if you tell me where I can find the engine code/Modell I'll write it too.
@joakimeliasson32443 жыл бұрын
@@FaskaRestoration From what I can tell so far only the cb450 n/dx/sc and possibly other versions made for the brazil market came with oil coolers. The coolers were connected through holes in the lower crankcase just above the filter. I've highlighted this here drive.google.com/file/d/1uELkBzlixsv3zJeideEerDqma6UERcVF/view?usp=sharing Oil coolers came in two variants, mounted higher on the frame or directly on the motor. Most models I've seen of the cb400 have regular fins all across the lower crankcase. Since the cb 450 sc came out in 82 with just slightly larger bore it would make sense for honda to share the same engine castings for both models. I'm not actually sure there would be any indication on the crankcase to tell the difference but I would think all of the same version (A/B/C/D) version would have the same crankcase. Since your bike is 82 that would be either a late B version or early C from what I know. Most likely C since the B versions are probably too early for having that crankcase. I believe if you check your VIN it would be CB400N23XXXX if it's a C model or cb400N22XXXXX if it's a B model.
@FaskaRestoration3 жыл бұрын
@@joakimeliasson3244 Wow you know a lot about Honda I've checked It and it's actually CB400N32XXXXX... What does that mean? Oh and I found out that it was build 28.1.1982, but it was sold and got a license plate 5.4.1982 (European date). And I have another question it's a cb400n like you can see and read all over the bike, but in the paper the model is " CB 400 T" how or what? Maybe a mistake?
@joakimeliasson32443 жыл бұрын
@@FaskaRestoration Wow that's really interesting. I've heard many mistakes were made registering bikes back in the day so it is possible. Since the F and T stood for four and twin respectively in the precursors cb400T and cb400F and the sibling bike to the CB400N were named CM400T (T=Touring), they might have put a T instead of a N seeing as it could be confusing. Some countrys including Germany imported restricted models as well as standard models. Restricted models came with different VIN, in the case of Germany they would usually add 1 to the first digit, thus your bike would be equivalent to cb400n22xxxxx, ie. model B but restricted to 20kW. Maybe you could see in the papers if it's still restricted or if it ever was restricted?
@FaskaRestoration3 жыл бұрын
@@joakimeliasson3244 Very interesting. It's actually still restricted to 27ps/20kw they did that because of the insurance. In Germany if your bike was under 27/20kw ps it was a lot cheaper to insure. This was done through a different camshaft, but it is exactly the same engine. We still have something like that in Germany but the rules (different ps/kw and weight) had changed a lot and today you have 3 different types of motorcycle driver licenses too. (Too complicatet to write it all down here)

How can i tell between the honda cb400n 27hp and 43 hp model?
@FaskaRestoration3 жыл бұрын
Either you can feel it that she has more power, or you look in the papers it should stand there. The engine is basicly the same just the camshaft is sharper, if you find a 43hp camshaft you can easily convert it. I hope this has helped you.
