The original name of this quarter is Tepebashi. Azerbaijani Turks used to live there for centuries. In 1918 armenian nationalists massacred civilian turks living there. Remaining turks mostly left for Azerbaijan Republic and little part to Kars town of Türkiye and Tabriz city if Iran. During Soviet times 220000 Azerbaijani Turks lived in Armenia, including in Tepebashi quarter of Iravan. New wave of armenian nationalism and aggression against Azerbaijanis in 1988 resulted with full ethnic cleansing of Azerbaijani Turks. They all fled to Azerbaijan Republic. Today no single muslims and no single turk lives in Armenia. It is the most islamafobic and chauvinist country in the World.
