Main guns bow of ship non moving horrible design meaning the ship has to be pointed straight at its target open to attack I mean yes the ship has a smaller profile to hit but in navy way of thinking main guns should be able to move

Awesome, though worth pointing out that not every TNG shot were found as original film reels and therefore couldn't be fully converted to HD. So these particular shots are upscaled SD footage. Though these are rare and only visible in a few episodes, some where it's only one shot. Episodes that spring to mind are "We'll Always Have Paris", "The Best of Both Worlds" Part II, "The Drumhead", "Power Play" and "First Duty" (where there's quite a few).

Probably my favourite battle scene from B5, great cinematography. The White Stars are pack hunters and it shows how effective they are as a team, that's very good tactics that other sci-fi shows lack. The Sunhawks also flew close formation with the White Stars here. Hell, the Drazi are the strongest in the league and hold their own here which is impressive.

Measured doses of something grand makes you appreciate it all the more, like singers who hold back their full vocal power and talent until the climax of a song. the space combat is one of the few things that made the show worthwhile to me as it got into the latter seasons. For me it became too much of a soap opera, a convoluted mess of a plot, at times totally incoherent, characters breaking character for the sake of making some new drama, et cetera. I wanted to love the show all the way through, watched it all the way through only for wanting to see how things ended, but the last few seasons were a drag to me. Now a real dream come true for me would be to see massive space battles like this in a Robotech movie series, based on the U.S. animated adaptation in the 80's. That story I'm deeply fond of. Despite some childish elements, there's something sobering about seeing 4.8 million alien warships in a green cloud around the Earth bombarding its entire surface into oblivion that says, "This isn't just for kids." :-)

Something about a battleship/starship in any sci fi story just unleashing every single thing it has is just so cool. One the audio books been listening to had a scene where they come out of a wormhole and the ship ai spins the ship around on its axis unleashing every single gun on the ship on the enemy in a twirling spiral of death 💀

04's Galactica pretty much sums up how Humanity would fight in space. None of those fancy lasers, phasers, particle projectile nonsense. Just big ol' frakkin guns slingling solid slugs down range, and a thousand smaller cannons creating a cloud of shrapnel that'll float in the void for eternity. Wasteful on purpose, because you wont get hit by a projectile if it hits something in front of you first.

@@richlisola1 there was a scene where Cain points out to Adama that Pegasus has less crew than Galactica - even though Pegasus is ~50% larger - because the Pegasus has automation. That seemed to imply that the guns required crews on Galactica. That's the one place I figure where automation would cut down crew size. Even with some aspects automated, they'd still need a sizable hangar crew to fix up and re-stage retrieved Vipers. I kind of imagine it as like the Iowa-class battleships - there were aspects of automation to get the powder and shells to the guns, but there was still a need for crews at the guns themselves. Galactica was an old girl - built in a time when there was a fear of what Cylons could do to automated systems.
@ace98487 ай бұрын
@@tuxedotservo Cain ordered the crew to man the batteries when cylons interfered with their automation system when they attacked a Cylon station (same episode where Cain shot her previous XO in the head with his own gun in the command center)
