I don't understand horses .. why do charging dogs (a real predator danger) and most horses don't flinch... But a rock or a shadow freaks them out?!
@Cecilyeg3 ай бұрын
I think because they are motionless. If you think about, for instance, a cat, they are very still before they leap and attack. Conversely if a predator is already moving they are less likely to make an attack. That is part of why when passing a vehicle on our road I hope they will keep moving, albeit slowly, so they don't seem like an attack is imminent.

She actually makes every effort to come to me. But she is one of those horses that no matter what gait you ask for she wants to go faster. In 50 years of training I have found that the youngsters have to be taught to go slowly first. Just like a child who needs to walk before they can run. If she only learns to go fast it will impact her future as a useful horse. Once I put an overcheck on her she began to settle down and is now working almost up to her grade level.

It's a shame that all the horse is learning is that people are butt heads? The bit is ridiculous first off, let alone pulling the bottom jaw . Bet that feels great, I'm sure. No, way to train any thing in my opinion.1✌️
@Cecilyeg3 ай бұрын
Your choice. She needs to learn to walk when she is told, not just kite around the arena. I have trained generations of her family. They all have a "hot" start but settle down when they know they have to. Her issues about doing what she is told extend all the way to leading and picking up her feet, which she has been doing since the day she was born. At present she has a kind of "I don't wanna" attitude but it is getting MUCH better all the way around.
@cynthiabowers31093 ай бұрын
I had a horse an she was halter trained, best darn horse ever. infact she was more like a giant dog opening doors coming into the house, just a whistle when she was in the field and she'd come running. She was never even lunged in a round pen. However, we had to work on trains / tracks and bridges. Which only took 2 or 3 times and me not riding her across but rather getting off her and actually leading her to show her it was safe. We have to remember they actually have control of being a horse. I can't say the same for us "humans" most of us think everything should be our way and it can be if we'd get off our high horses.❤️✌️

When will people realize that constant narration is very annoying to horse and observers. Having to use ‘gadgets ‘ prove that the handler has already lost control and obedience
@Cecilyeg3 ай бұрын
Because as a teaching video it is necessary. Many people can't see or don't understand what is happening without the "chatter". Even when I am not videoing I talk to my horses a lot, even though they are really good at telepathy. My viewers can't hear the telepathy.

Your confusing this poor girl...your telling her to go while your reins are saying stop...plz just dont!
@Cecilyeg3 ай бұрын
I'm telling her to walk instead of run away, which would be her choice. Back in the day when I trained show horses she would have been top of the heap for a show horse. Lots of energy. If I let her do as she pleased she would be trotting hard for about 20 minutes before she began listening to me. She lives on pasture so it isn't a confinement issue.
@Sarahyoutubeaddict3 ай бұрын
Is this horse being "broken"(spirited) The horse obviously isn't interested in being forced to do stuff. Why isn't she running around a paddock with other horses ?
@Cecilyeg3 ай бұрын
She isn't because it is time for her to learn things. She is out on 200 acres when she isn't being worked. She is always first at the gate wanting to be worked. She comes from a long line of "hot" horses. They do settle down to be great ones for almost any discipline.
@TheHare-rv3hj3 ай бұрын
You're really bad. You have little to no idea of what you're doing, and your attitude is terrible. As Ray Hunt used to say, ["What I see some people doing to their horses...if I were that horse, man o live, I would....."] And he'd give a sneer letting people know that if he were the horse, he'd let the owner have it. He also told us that you can't put a horse in a straight jacket and expect him to work. You've got her in a straight jacket and you're asking her too much, too soon.

She would rather just run around and do what she wishes.

@Cecilyeg3 ай бұрын
I do. I don't use them much but when I have a horse who wants to put their nose on their chest and take off it is called for. The purpose of a check rein is to keep the horse from putting it's head below the angle of control. The purpose of a martingale is to keep the horse from getting it's head above the angle of control. When needed they are valuable equipment. When they work out of the need that equipment is no longer used.

Tension reins on a young horse? It is NOT the attitude that is the problem, but the tension rein. The young horse does not have enough strength to carry himself in that form yet. This means that it has to lean on/can't get away from the pressure of the bite. This leads to your reins becoming unclear to the young horse, ultimately a constant pressure that does not come from you. When you press on, the horse receives double signals and becomes confused. Finally, you have to pull hard to get your signals out in the now sore mouth. In the extension, you get a "rein-deaf" horse. The horse is trying to get away from sore (untrained) muscles and the bit, which is now pressing too hard. If you remove the input voltage, your signals will reach again.🙂
