Back in the late 80's through early 90's here in Dallas we had a place similar to Dukes it was called Fenders and it was such an awesome place to be on Friday and Saturday nights....

Heck that’s how it was from at least the late 60s until I graduated college in 74. Awesome, best time ever to grow up, warts and all. Best music, best people. When everybody I ever cared for was still alive.

RIP dukes beef, my gripe is they could never get them wet enough. I always said extra extra wet get Home and bread was still dry. Buona is my go to they understand xx wet

Being Sicilian, I LOVE Italian Beef!!!!Today was my first visit to Dukes. My favorite has always been Portillo's (there is a family connection). But I'll frequent other places to compare. Mind you now, my top Beef Sandwiches are not far apart from each other . . . and so I will place Duke's sandwich in my top 5. I rank them Portillo's, Al's, Mr. Beef, Duke's, Buona. My only "beef" with Duke's has to do with service. This was Sunday just before noon . . . four orders in line ahead of me . . . two waiting for their orders . . . 7 people in the kitchen, some just standing around most of the 20 min. before my order was taken and an additional 20 before I got it. Maybe it was an off day for them, but seriously, I could have been through the Portillo's line 4 times in that period!

I live less than a mile away from Dukes. I still stop in on a nice Saturday night and park one of my cars in the lot and walk around checking out what other cars showed up. Been stopping in now and then for over 30 years now.
