This is pretty impressive stuff, even more so because it's all before the internet. Things get reported immediately nowadays and you can read about it online before you see it on the news. The news back then (and the radio) was probably the only way you heard about something as it happened.

The BBC’s anti-Thatcher agenda in full view here - laughing at the appointment of John Major, talk about impartial!?

What ARE you taking about? John Major was not seen as a serious candidate for chancellor by anyone. You’re showing your ignorance, not any anti-Thatcher bias.

Boring programme. And why did they keep the St Angela's Hospital logo for two years after the setting had been phased out? Heath Green was even more boring.

This was probably soon after their show ended in 1992. As ITV lost the rights to old Division 1. The year Premier League was founded.

"Kill Your Speed - Not A Child!" British PIFs (public information films) definitely make our PSAs (public service announcements) here in the United States look tame by comparison. The UK PIFs definitely grab your attention. Usually a staple of late night television, as even the BBC would run them prior to closedown back in the day. Of course, our PSAs in America used to be pretty thought provoking as well back in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I don't want to sound like an old stick-in-the-mud, but I think we have all gotten rather soft as a society.

Am not surprised at this at all! Really there is nothing new & some things just haven't changed regarding Chris Evans! He had a habit & still has I believe of 'putting his foot in it' & saying inappropriate things about people on air & liking the sound of his own voice! You only had to listen to BBC Radio 2 when he used to host the Breakfast Show...say no more!

This a fascinating insight into TV news production at the BBC back in 1989. It still feels modern. Interesting show how BBC journalists cover stories concerning Packed Faced politicians.

This advert was before Kentucky Fried Chicken being renamed as KFC in the UK, which they did by the following year of 1993, 2 years after it was first renamed KFC in the USA by 1991.

It's truly outstanding how Michael Buerk casually strolls into the one o'clock news studio with only five minutes to air, is given an absolute cul-de-sac of a show to present, has frantic messages in his ear, whilst reading the top story, about how he's about to crash into a brick wall because nothing is ready to run, and a doesn't even break into a sweat. The viewer would just never know. A professional of the highest order at work, very impressive.

I did my work experience at TVC in November 1988. It was brilliant. I wandered into the gallery above the 6 O'Clock News just before it went live and it was very exciting to see all this happening in the background. Wonderful memories. Now it's just a load of entitled posh kids running around . No more real journalists who trained as local correspondents

I remember a Nurse in Casualty killing herself, don’t recall one in Angels. Casualty was good until it was turned into a soap in the early 00’s. I lost interest in it when they killed off Baz ( Charlie’s first wife ).

I always find it amazing how they can get an actor to play two parts and get the “twins” to interact with each other - a similar ad using the same technique was done with Griff Rhys-Jones - one is seen interacting with the other - yet they are the same bloke! It’s easy enough to do if both twins aren’t in the same place - especially if they even talk different - but, when they put the twins in the same place and they talk to each other, that can be done with split screen - but to have Windsor Davies in mufti jab BSM Williams in his army fatigues with a Wispa bar is quite a feat!
