Great video, can you provide torque specs for spline to knuckle bolts and just for clarification did you pack the knuckle full of grease?
@rowdyridesbryanacres3106
@rowdyridesbryanacres3106 22 сағат бұрын
@@paulshallo4195 Thanks buddy. On the 9/16 spindle to knuckle bolts I treated them like a 9/16 lug nut. You torque them to around 160 foot pounds. That’s what my air impact is designed to do so I just used it. And yes I bought a 5 gallon bucket of grease and packed the knuckles full. But if your axle housing seals are bad it will push the grease into your axle housing. So make sure that they are good. I’m working on a video of installing meritor hubs for gear reduction. AKA hater kit. So be looking for that video in the next week or so.

@@rigosandovalrico584 that’s hard to say. If your build is yourself and are resourceful you can save some money but most trucks like mine that people dropped off a truck and cash spend around 80k plus the truck.

The style case I had didn’t have enough gear reduction, I had the factory case in low to make up for it. That appears to be the problem, so now with this new case I will only need the reduction from it and everything should be happy. There will only be the factory transfercase and this new one now, but I will not be using any of the gear reduction in the factory case anymore.

I’m curious how much would a fab shop charge to build this or a similar subframe?
@rowdyridesbryanacres3106
@rowdyridesbryanacres3106 7 ай бұрын
I have no idea. The subframe attaches to everything so you have to have nearly all the parts to lay it out. You basically built the truck at that point. I could see a shop charging several thousand to do a frame like this

@@rowdyridesbryanacres3106 that’s what I figured it’s always more cost effective to diy. I have a 89 f350 with a BBF me and my son are gonna build but I’m debating on weather I should go big first time around or start with springs 2.5 ton and boggers. Btw major props on the build and engineering I had just as much fun as your kid on the hydraulic step lol

@@josephlenzsch3628 Thank you. Yeah my son loves this truck. You can’t go wrong with 2.5 ton’s and some 14.9s or 16.9s. I would have built a truck that size but I stumbled across deals and ended up with all this. But for the same money 5 ton’s are much stronger and are more abundant in my area. You could do basically the same build with 5 tons with smaller tires and always go bigger. 🤷‍♂️

@@rowdyridesbryanacres3106 very true I believe in your area these types of trucks alone are more common here in south jersey there’s only one place that Iv seen them and that’s in tabernacle nj or at hill and hole events. Plus living in nj cost of living here is insane. Me and my two kids live with my parents $100k a year and my margin for disposal is still slim. Whats the going rate for top loaders and tractor tires out your way?
@rowdyridesbryanacres3106
@rowdyridesbryanacres3106 7 ай бұрын
@@josephlenzsch3628 oh man, yeah well like anything I think it’s who you know. 5 ton virgin steer axles go for between $1200 and $1500. I lucked up and found 3 of them for $2100. It’s pretty common around here to get a steer and a rear for around $1800. Good used tires are hard to find. I’m on some Facebook forums for tires and mega trucks. They have things listed for sale all the time but they sell fast. I bought two of my 28L Firestone’s locally for $750 and the other 2 shipped down from I believe Indiana for $1400, off facebook. I’ll probably do a video eventually talking about what everything cost and where it came from. 14.9s, 16.9s, 18.4s R2 are all good size tires for 2.5 tons or a smaller 5 ton rig, You can often find a set of them on rims for $2500 give or take. The thing is you have to be ready to jump when you see a good deal.
