Do you know the name of the countertop, and type of material it is, at the 7:30 time stamp? I'm looking for a primarily white countertop with a lot of "sparkle" in it. I like Stellar Snow quartz by Silestone because it has a lot of tiny reflective mirror pieces in it, but if I could find a similar natural stone that would be great. I want to stay away from marble though, because I need something a little tougher, lol!

I sure hope so! I love oak cabinets. All white cabinets make me feel like I’m in a hospital or asylum and it’s just feels bland and sad honestly. Oak cabinets feels homey and nostalgic and makes me wanna bake or cook a good meal with family and friends.

Does the Shiloh color name correspond to the exact same name in a Sherwin Williams paint ?
@waysidekitchens2 ай бұрын
Hello! They keep the exact Sherwin Williams name for the colors, but their whites are their own color mixes is my understanding. I hope it helps and thanks for asking
@TeslaRules18562 ай бұрын
@@waysidekitchens Yes thank you for replying. I found out from my local Sherwin Williams store that Shilo's polar white is tier own proprietary mix. SW said they can try to color match. Shiloh is missing out on customer service by not offering to sell caulk or paint to their customers in their whites. I just caulked all my crown molding with plain white caulk (Dynaflex 230) and would like to paint over it to prevent yellowing and match the polar exactly. At this point I am asking to get a bunch of their touch up 1oz bottles to try to do so. I may try SW to see how well they can color match some paint using a sample piece of cabinet.
@waysidekitchens2 ай бұрын
@@TeslaRules1856 you can do a color match and it will be cheaper than purchasing the small touch up bottles from Shiloh. The cabinet industry usually has proprietary colors for their cabinets. Shiloh is doing a little more by keeping the Sherwin Williams colors with the same name. Normally they would tweak the color and use another proprietary name. Let me know how it works out.
@TeslaRules18562 ай бұрын
@@waysidekitchens I understand but at least they could include a pint or quart of their propriety paint , and a tube of color matched caulk for the large purchase I made. It would really make for a better install and appearance of their cabinets. Will let you know how it goes.

We are having Shiloh cabinets put into our Traditions Builder Group home in OH next winter and I have a question. We have an island with the sink. I haven't had this layout before. It is a good point to not hang it on the trash cabinet or the front of the sink cabinet. Where should I hang the towel that people use to dry their hands? We dry dishes and hang that one on the wall oven, but people want one near the sink.

In my humble opinion oak is an ugly wood. The unbelievable ugly trend of the 1990s was a kitchen tragedy with those oak cabinets.
@waysidekitchens6 ай бұрын
I agree with you. Most of the kitchens we remodel are with the 90s oak cabinets and arched doors. There is a revival of oak movement that is helping to bring it back to life, but wicked slow here in Massachusetts.

Forgot to mention still a very beautiful renovation, just was curious about that fireplace situation, didn’t mean to come off like I hated. Because I do like the fireplace style, I just thought the proportion seemed a little off but if code reason because of wood burning fireplace then I completely understand the reason would be for code to prevent fire. Thanks. Love your content, watch all your videos 🤗🤗🤗
@waysidekitchens6 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for watching our videos David! The fireplace mantle is like that due to meeting the codes. The fireplace mantles at my old farm house are also very high. I think it could be a New England thing, 🤔
@davidpollard35226 ай бұрын
Does the mantel have to sit that high, the scale of the fireplace seems very off. It make the picture box molding look short. The proportions just seem really off. If code allowed. I would have brought mantel shelf down some so it don’t seem like it sits to high thus make box mold have to be so short. It just really makes the ceiling look that much shorter than it already is.

I'm a cabinetmaker in Minnesota. The trend here for many years has been mission-style cabinets with a painted finish. In the more outlying rural areas, they still want red oak cabinets. I do see customers wanting to mix things up a bit. Did a kitchen with mostly white dove uppers and floor to ceiling cabinets, and the island and base units out of wenge. Starting another project soon, again, uppers will be painted and base cabinets will be rift-sawn white oak. White oak is popular now and getting expensive.

We have always loved oak for our cabinets and trim. Our last home had oak cabinets, oak floors with granite in the bathrooms & laundry room and granite for the basement floors, mahogany doors, granite countertops and oak trim. We had so many compliments on our home. We didn't do the honey color - more reds and naturals. We are currently building another home and it will have oak cabinets, ceramic tile that looks like marble on all flooring, mahogany doors, granite countertops and of course, oak trim once more. I think that oak and granite are very timeless finishes. 🙂

I love the natural wood of my kitchen. Built in 1981, and still just beautiful with regular cleaning. My shelves are solid, not that awful material that people are finding is falling apart in their kitchens just after ten years. Even the cabinet door laminate in Lowe’s and Home Depot displays are peeling away from the doors. Sad.

We are planning to update our kitchen and would consider using our existing custom honey oak cabinets if they could be stained to a different oak tone. Is this possible? The cabinetry is 35 years old and most cabinets are in good condition. Thank you for your video!

What I do not see is what is on the wall behind the island. It looks like it is pretty much a blank wall. If that is the case the island is hindering effective use of the floor space. That wall had been covered in floor to ceiling storage including the refrigerator. I do not see any improvement in the esthetics of the space. It is more a case of change for the sake of change rather than a substantive change to improve the function

Bought a home that’s a time capsule from the 80s (side note, I’m 55). Personally, I am glad that it wasn’t remodeled. It has top of the line fixtures for that time and golden oak cabinets in the kitchen (there’s also a bar with mirrors and a golden oak cabinet 😂). The cabinets are in v good shape for their age, I will most likely sand and re-stain bc they have aged so well. Maybe cut out a couple of panels and put glass in some. Just the orangey tint that looks dated and hardware is easily replaced or omitted altogether. Great video, the example part went way too fast tho, I had to slow the speed way down to appreciate it.

Wood as a design feature NEVER ages. It's classic and always looks good. If you want a kitchen that will stand the test of time choose wood
