I remember the time when my grandpa and I Would sit by the fire at night And I listened to stories of how he once lived By the glow of the kerosene light. By the glow of the kerosene light. He said Mom and Dad send me off to school Where I learned how to read and to write And they listened for hours As I read from my books By the glow of the kerosene light. By the glow of the kerosene light. Your grandma and I we were wed at 16 Lord she was a beautiful sight And proudly I placed the ring on her hand By the glow of the kerosene light. By the glow of the kerosene light. About one year later, your daddy was born And your grandma held my hand so tight On I can't tell the joy as she brought forth new life By the glow of the kerosene light. By the glow of the kerosene light. But having her child, it did weaken her so She just wasn't up to the fight For she looked so peaceful she went to her rest By the glow of the kerosene light. By the glow of the kerosene light. Then as now the times they were hard To succeed you would try all your might And sometimes love bloomed and sometimes dreams die By the glow of the kerosene light. By the glow of the kerosene light. By the glow of the kerosene light.

Garnet sells this, but only digitally - does anyone know why the physical CD isn't available except on the secondary market? The rights-holders can do what they like (especially the family), I'm just curious about the story here.
@DavidConradFlickchart Жыл бұрын
I'm guessing it's just that Garnet is out of physical copies and a reprint doesn't make financial sense, but maybe there's more to it.

Actually, this was his second single, released in 1971. His first one was Here's To You, Santa Claus/Coventry Carol, released in 1970.

Lyrics Oh me and Bill went hunting moose In a pickup truck seldom used With the horsepower burned up long ago Scarcely enough to make her go And it had very little brakes Made the squeaking poor brakes make We rode to the top of the hill Driving mad like stun folks will. And we came down the hill At the wheel was poor Bill Chorus: Well the tires started screaming And the radiator’s steaming And the speed it was increasing And Bill he’s hard of seeing We swerved along the wheeling To avoid a great collision With a big bull moose at the bottom of the hill. Well when I screamed Bill hit the brakes We missed the hairy ambulate But with the fright the engine died Couldn’t climb the other rise Speed dropped, til we stood still And backwards we went down the hill And if the brakes were poor at first They were bloody useless in reverse. And we backed down the hill At the wheel was poor Bill Chorus: Well the tires started screaming And the radiator’s steaming And the speed it was increasing And Bill he’s hard of seeing We swerved along the wheeling To avoid a great collision With a big bull moose at the bottom of the hill. Our pickup truck had no tailgate We scooped him off his four long legs And though that was not real abuse The moose we caught was not amused As we rolled back up the grade The moose recovered and stood up straight It jumped clear when we stopped And down the hill the thing took off So we followed down the hill Here was me and there was Bill. Chorus: Well the tires started screaming And the radiator’s steaming And the speed it was increasing And Bill he’s hard of seeing We swerved along the wheeling To avoid a great collision With a big bull moose at the bottom of the hill. We met again in the valley below Rolled to a stop and the rad did blow With frothing mouth and glaring eyes “I’ve had enough” the moose decides I hops out to shoot this thing Bill turns chicken and took to wing As I gained to make the kill “I’ve got the bullets” roared stun Bill. And it chased Bill up the hill Here was me and there was Bill. Chorus: Well the gap it was decreasing I could hear the thing a-wheezing And as I gained my freedom The moose took Bill and treed him And he clung there all evening And I was glad to leave him but The next time I wants moose, I’m a-not going hunting with Bill! Yes, the next time I wants moose, I’m a-not going hunting with Bill!

All the family I have and have ever had are all Newfies. I don't know if it has had something to do with it or not but I've never been able to handle this whole song, never even before becoming a teenager, even before getting married and having a child of my own. This song is a masterpiece, nothing short of it.

Now Saturday night on Highway Eight, A two ton blimp derailed a freight, The shock broke windows fifteen miles away.. They declared the train a total wreck, Stella was treated for scratches on her face and neck, She's my two ton sweety, My darling Stella Grey.. Sixty six bust and a forty eight waist, Eighty two hips and elephant legs, And looking at Stella Grey from the behind, Just makes me go outta my mind, Woh! How I love Stella Grey! One quarter ton of bounce and play.. She's my mammoth mamma, My darling Stella Grey.. Now she's so fat that if you want, You can see her backside from the front, She gives me a thrill when she bellows "HONEY!" Twice as much girl for the money... (Spoken): Now you gotta remember friends that this was in the days before Women's lib.. (Sung): Now she's my bulgy baby, My darling Stella Grey.. Now she's not much for looks but she's hell on strong, Trims her beard when it gets long, Keeps her hair cut close to her head, Never lets me into her bed.. (Spoken) and I'm glad! But still I love Stella Grey... Since I've known her my life has really been so gay, She's my heavy duty honey, My darling Stella Grey.. I say. My darling Stella Grey.. I say.. My darling Stella Grey!

It like comparing Apple's to oranges, they are both in the same category but very different. American trucks are ment for long hauls European trucks are ment for maneuverability. I like both to be honest. And the paccar engines in newer kenworths and peterbilts are actually DAF engines from Europe.

One of the most amazing songs to come out of Newfoundland, no one can do it like Ronnie Johnson and Buddy Wasisname, and to anyone listening to this song and not from Newfoundland don't listen to the other versions done by anyone else its not the same and they could never do this song like Ronnie Johnson.

If you're referring to the singer here, and not someone I don't know about, his name is Ray, not Ronnie.
