This is going to be a great coaster, but good lord does the theming (or absolutely lack of it) completely suck. While I know Merlin / Thorpe Park don't have anywhere near the budget of Universal or Disney, but aside SAW and the new opening of Nemesis at Alton Towers, basically all the parks have the bare minimum theming. Once you go to a true theme park it is an incredible experience being engulfed in another world - I just wish we had that in the UK. I know about the plans for Universal to come here, but I'd be absolutely amazed if that actually was fully green lit and came to exist.
@rollerscoasting10 ай бұрын
I have the same opinion. Average rides will theme heavily to attract guests, this ride has so much attention, I believe they feel they don't need to theme it so much... sad. They are going to need to take a look at all parks as they are all looking tired now.

Great footage. I am not on this project, but I do develop and build theme park rides for a living. As a rough guess, 23rd March is very optimistic. I would say from your video footage, that this ride is at least 2 to 3 months from completion, if they are working day shifts only. They may be able to shorten this with 3 shifts, but it would be a mighty task to do it in just over one month. Everything has to be perfect for that to happen as well. I had a rodent destroy an electrical drive on a ride I was installing last year, and it took 3 months to get a replacement part. Once the structure is built, the lift chain has to be pulled in and the remaining friction wheels installed, then all of the electrical containment, cables and sensors. They will have to perform a manual pull through, which is usually the front and rear car of a train for reach envelope checks of guests on the ride. The pull through will also ensure the train will go through the station and past evacuation platforms. The train is checked so it does not collide with any sensors, verify the chain catcher and anti-roll back (ARB) dogs for alignment, verify the train can go through bends, inversions and brakes without binding. The pull through can take 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the weather and the skills of the pull through team. Not sure what the largest cherry picker, man lift or MEWP that is available locally. Usually 56 metres but you can get truck mounted to 90 metres. On larger coasters, we usually use cranes with man baskets, the higher we go. This slows progress due to the vertical distance that has to be travelled. 236 feet is pretty high. 72 metres. Not Giga, strata or soon to be Exa coaster high, but high enough. Once power is on, the lift chain is checked to ensure it is running true and all the input/output (IO) of the Programmable Logic Control (PLC) has to be verified. Friction wheel directions are checked. Lift chain and brake functions are electrically checked, along with all Operator and maintenance control panels. There are hundreds and sometimes thousands of IO's to be checked. The outer perimeter fence then has to be fully closed for test running. They start with one train, to make sure all sensors are working, and this can take up to 3 weeks with verification requirements. (Speed measurements between sensors, block zone checks, brake distance checks, zero speed gravity drops from lift chain and block brakes, train anti-roll back check and lift chain restart under load, etc). It is always better to have wet and dry running conditions, as well as cooler and warm conditions, if possible, during testing. Trains do not run very quickly in cool dry conditions, but they can be several metres per second faster in wet and warm conditions. If you want max speed, go on one during a summer afternoon, on a busy day, in the rain. Each train has all onboard restraint system verification checks, and any onboard lighting/audio is also checked. Once single train verifications are complete, a second train is added. A further week of anti-collision/restraint checks are carried out. For each subsequent train, another week of testing is usually required. They will then run the ride with all trains for a couple of weeks to bed the track in, train the operations team and get rid of any bugs in the system. After 100 hours of running, all bolts on the structure are torque checked (Tightening check). While all the above is going on, the area has to be landscaped/finished and all other ride infrastructure completed. Once everything is finished and training is completed, a 3rd party expert in amusement devices, carries out an assessment of conformity and functional test to complete initial inspection & certification of the attraction. We usually use the same 3rd party who carries out a design review, prior to manufacturing of the ride. A ride of this size can take 2 to 3 years from initial purchase to opening. The Installation, testing and commissioning is usually around 6 to 8 months. Mack rides and Emis (Emis are Mack rides electrical contractor) have a few coaster builds going on. They are commissioning Voltron Nevera at Europa Park at the moment, which is due to open in the next few weeks, so they will likely be over to Thorpe once that ride has opened. Hyperia looks like it will be a great coaster for Thorpe Park. Zero G hang times are one of my favorite elements and this one is a long way from the ground. I haven't built a chain lift since 2016, so that is interesting in modern times. All my recent coaster builds are LSM, Cable lift and Friction wheel lifts. The paint marks on the bolts are called Torque marking and they are a simple method for visually checking the bolts, nuts and washers are not coming loose. It is a straight line of paint from the bolt, down the nut, across the washer and onto the steel of the structure. It is always done on the nut side for through bolts and on the bolt head for threaded (Tapped) blind holes. The ride is usually split into zones and a visual check of all nuts and bolts is usually completed every week, or on larger coasters over 1 month. The visual check can be done from ground level with binoculars on most bolts, but in modern times, some theme parks are starting to do inspection with pre-programmed drones to reduce working at height requirements. Every year a physical torque check with calibrated torque wrenches is carried out, so every bolt has a physical check annually.

That's an amazing informative comment. I will certainly refer to this at my next update at Hyperia. The ground works are going to take an age too. Seriously... thank you for this.
