Wow, this was so informative and stimulating and has given me much food for thought in relation to a coaching client I have at the moment. Thank you Mat for interviewing Greg Chasson - I will look up his book

After fy2 if you don't want to go via the traditional training route, and just want to do the diploma, how would you advise building up experience or getting initial starter roles in industry? I heard being a functional assessor is a good role, are there any other roles you can think of outside the nhs that could be a route into occupational health for an fy2 please?

Thank you for your question! I'd suggest reaching out to Sarwar on LinkedIn and asking him. www.linkedin.com/in/dr-sarwar-chowdhury-555279120/. Often a broad range of experiences is helpful, so doing some clinical jobs that use general skills may be helpful too. You can find out more about Occupational Medicine on the following resources. occupationalhealthacademy.co.uk/resources; www.fom.ac.uk/careers; www.som.org.uk/careers; www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/explore-roles/doctors/roles-doctors/occupational-medicine; medicfootprints.org/occupational-medicine-career-guide/; rcpconferences.co.uk/rcp-medicine-careers-week; youtu. Good luck!

Thank you, Mat, for being the perfect host on this podcast! It was a pleasure meeting you. :) Your insightful questions allowed me to share my perspective as a nurse working in the USA. There are many similarities between our health systems and some differences I wasn't unaware of. Thank you for giving me that insight I wouldn't have had otherwise! It's been a pleasure chatting with you. :)

This is great. A lot to reflect on, I still ask myself where and why do all techniques fail when a doctor shows empathy and compassion yet only very few doctors will also end up with a lodged ECHR application at the end of their career while others might end up taking their lives? And that's real world stats. Despite having pushed away all thoughts of catastrophising, having then used all techniques, having exhausted justice avenues, until, it actually gets too late, career over. 'Systems' are at unfair and inconsistent game play. What happens currently with medical profession is not for the faint hearted. Thanks for this session.

This is such an important topic! Similarly to the importance of planning in advance for stressful situations, is planning in advance for crucial conversations! I just collaborated on an article about it with an ENT surgeon here in the U.S. - will let you know when it's published. Thank you for these very valuable discussions!
