After registering your screenplay, are you able to go back and make edits? Or add more episodes if it's a tv series?

Many many KZbin videos feature celebrity images cut into their videos, often for comedic effect. For example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b57VoauZo5VnhsUsi=FTyRI9i3VPYXqPxb&t=27 - Arnold Schwarzenegger is cut into this video at second 28. Is doing this type of thing risky?

Of course, this doesn't exist in countries that have no privacy at all, but if you are making a film that has strict privacy laws, the best ways to steer clear of defamation claims are these........ 1. Generally, you never ever reveal real-life, living private people as characters exactly (their names, of course) in your film without their consent. If consent is denied, it is best to make "fictionalized" real-life names--that is--use your search engine and make sure that the name you used does not match any private person around the world. Try to mask a private person's name as much as one can--and of course--in the characterizations of that person, mask as much of the traits so that the made-up person is as unique as one can, so that no third-party person who watches your created film can question if there is a suspicion of privacy invasion. 2. You CAN use celebrities in your film because their privacy expectancies are way, way low, but still, use very strong caution. Try to avoid characters based on real-life celebs if the celebs have been hit by paparazzi or stalkers. Try to work on celebs that have 0 incidents of such harassment--they are less likely to sue. 3. Also be careful about making films on especially inanimate likenesses, brands, firms, corporations or trademarks. Any misuse of such stuff out in the public with the intent to defame that stuff can get you into thrown into civil court. Especially when titling them. So instead of doing "Don't Do Business With IBM" as your film title (that is a negative generalization that can be litigable), instead, say "X and Y and Z caused the fall of IBM" on your film title, and back the title statement up with details in your film (because substantiations will be a good defamation defense here--it is like "the truth"----). Hope this helps.

So what if a sag low budget film hires a non union actor, has them fill out sag aftra day performer paperwork but then just pays them as “background” (much less money obviously). even though they were in two separate scenes on two separate days, had 20+ lines, and was physically hurt during the shoot (because the stunt guy didn’t show up that day) . Legally, can they just call them “background” and get away with it?

I don't think this all applies to "filming" for news purposes, or as they call in in THIS century, "recording" for news purposes (cameras don't use "film" anymore and the term is becoming outdated).

I have a question about what to expect as an early partner. Offering $50K in sweat equity as a DP for 3% of a 2.8million budget is a 44% discount. Is this reasonable and close to standard?

Thanks for this breakdown. So for the “work made for hire” section, if I wrote the script and produced the film, this means that I wasn’t hired so I would check “no”, correct?

I saw that they jacked the residual checks to $1 million. Guest starring actors on a popular TV show get paid $60 a month just for guest starring on a show. I know becoming a producer is very unrealistic I don't see myself working and being around big time popular actors. It just seems unreal to be around a movie star, but I want to produce two movies and I do want union actors, however I don't want to do it for the long haul I want to make only two movies, become an author, and then I would like to become a police officer and stop producing movies because my main goal is to become a cop, I could produce 10 or 20 movies but I just want to only make two instead. Now with the residual checks that I will have to continue pay because I want to make sure everyone gets paid forever but a police is a very dangerous job, that's not a job that you can go to work and probably go back home safe you know what I mean it just a dangerous job. As in other words for example what I am saying is if anything happens to the producer how will the actors and other film crew members will still receive their residuals from that producer? Because things do happen and I didn't want to bring that up but I do want to make a movie with union SAG actors and also become a cop and own a bookstore.

Thank you. Very informative. I just had a talent agency reply to me re: a talent I was inquiring on being on board, they said "do you have your full financing? if your are ready to make a pay or play offer to ..... we are happy to consider." first time as a filmmaker I'm hearing the pay or play, and we can only guarantee if funded, so should I reject this? thanks!
