Hmm feel like this could be the issue that I'm having with my Rog x13, I just bought it today for $280, it boots on and everything but it gets frozen upon setting up, after removing the heat sink along with fans, I'm noticing how theres a circle directly in the middle of it thats without its LM, I ordered some PTM7950 from amazon should be coming tomorrow hopefully this can resolve the issue at the mean time I'm just preparing a fresh USB install of windows 11 for this until I get it tomorrow

Love the convenience of PTM once it's on but good lord getting that plastic sheet off the 2nd side is an absolute nightmare. Tossing it in the freezer for a bit beforehand helps to a degree, but even still, I've raged hard trying to get that stupid plastic off.

Hey, thank you for the video. My G14 was overheating an I ended up exchanging it just to have the same issue. I ended up watching a video saying to adjust the tempt profiles which did help but it still gets hot AF. Now after seeing this vid Im going to do this once Im back home. I didnt want to open it due to it using "liquid metal" which I guess it really does but its not enough an Ive read that over time some units even broke due to the metal seeping out. I want this beauty to last a long time and I think with this it will

I noticed a burn mark on both the cpu and cpu cooler where the liquid metal had mvoed and wasnt providing coverage on yours and mine as well as pictures of other people who had done the same. The cooler obviously isnt sitting close enough to stop the LM moving and not providing full coverage and i suspect this is the reason for the high temperatures even though the LM has better thermal conductivity. After i did this my cpu temps were down by between 12-16c depending on the game. My gpu which didnt have LM for some reason went up by about 2c but the gpu temp was never an issue for me.

How were the temperatures after the exchange? I'm thinking of removing the liquid metal from my G14 as well and putting the PTM7950. I use the notebook vertically a lot and I'm afraid of leaks.

Hey, great video. This is what I plan to do. After countless shutdowns I finally decided to open the vapor chamber of my G14 2022 yesterday. Still had a year of warranty, but couldn't take it anymore. Terrible job by Asus service center in my country (was serviced some months back). There was barely any LM on both dies and most of it had leaked. There were huge spots completely bare. There was no PTM 7950 in my country so my order will only get here in a month. In the meantime I used some Noctua NT-H1. I finally was able to play BG3 for hours with no issue (never managed to last an hour before it shuts down). If I ever need warranty I'm planning to just take out the PTM and put some LM back. (The seal was never put back by the service center, so..) The issue is with the K5 Pro on the VRM/Capacitors. There is barely any paste left on my machine but once repasted, I don't know if I can get back to its original state! Do you have any Idea what was used initially on the VRMs? Its kinda blue paste. Thanks

If you haven't already buy a canister of CX-H1300 13.5k as replacement for the thermal putty on the VRM's. It is cheap and widely available. I recommend putting it in the fridge before application as it can be a bit sticky when it gets warmed up, making spreading a little annoying.

You can reuse whats there if its in okay condition. You can also use normal thermal paste (non conductive kind) or silicon thermal pads.

Would you recommend doing this after the warranty is over? I’m kind of worried about the Liquid Metal dripping out after the machine is out of warranty and think this would bring me peace of mind knowing there would be no more conductive liquid in my laptop if I repasted with this stuff😂
@gessin64
@gessin64 Жыл бұрын
100% if you are still in the warranty period, do not do this as it will void the warranty. If you are not seeing high thermals or thermal shut downs I wouldn't be in a rush to do it. I did it because my G14 was seeing these issues because the liquid metal started to leak and dry up.

Honestly, the K5 Pro is not very good, the heat transfer between the hot surface is quite poor, it often accumulates heat to make the heatsink hotter than usual. With my heatsink modding experience, I replaced the MX-6 thermal paste for the K5 Pro. The results are very good, the temperature is much lower and more stable than when using the K5 Pro. With Arctic's MX-6, the thickness of the cream is more concentrated than other thermal pastes, which is why I chose it to replace the K5 Pro.When I used K5 Pro, the temperature never stabilized in one place, about every 1 minute the temperature suddenly increased to more than 90 degrees. And when using the MX-6, my laptop's gaming temperature is stable at 45-50 degrees Celsius, never suddenly rising above 80 degrees when in idle mode. When playing games, the average temperature is about 65 degrees Celsius, too cool compared to the K5 Pro. You can try, I have tested for many months and the stability of the system has not changed. But for gaming laptops, you should do that, and normal laptops are not necessary. Because gaming laptops need the most performance and stability possible.

@@angelazuela8075 CPU you can use PTM-7950 thermal pad, this is the best thermal pad currently for CPU and GPU, PTM 7950 will become liquefy when the CPU temperature is above 50 degrees Celsius and will back to solid if below 50, also use Thermal Paste MX6 on VRM and Capacitors for The heat dissipation effect is better than K5 Pro.

@@angelazuela8075 yes, PTM-7950 is better than thermal paste, but dont use on VRM or Capacitors. And with my experience, after 6 months to 1 year you should change new thermal paste because all current thermal pastes dry very quickly and become bad in heat dissipation after half to a year.

I'd like to repaste mine as well, but it does seem like a lot of work--not to even mention the risk involved. I'm not experienced or knowledgeable enough to pull this off. I just use an IETS GT500, which brings my temps down by 10-15°C, on average. The noise fucking sucks but I'd rather not poorly attempt a repaste.
