Nice video. Where is the monument in Bladensburg? Nothing comes up on google maps
@Realunitedstates3 күн бұрын
It's on a little sliver of land between the north bound and south bound lanes of Baltimore Ave, just south of Upshur St. in what is technically part of Bladensburg Memorial Grove Park.

It's hard to believe that home was built in 1908. It's a testament to the architectural genius of FLLW and how far advanced and ahead of his time he was. That home if built today would look like a modern home and is better than homes being built today with better quality.

@Realunitedstates2 ай бұрын
I suppose it could be. The issue, especially with one this size, might be that marble is significantly softer than granite, and transporting it, without damaging it with any dents or deformations, would be significantly more challenging.

Rutabagas are much tastier than turnips. They taste more calorie dense like a potato. I like turnips though...even raw. We used to grow them and a whole lot of other vegetables. I`m trying lots of different things now since my garden space is small. But here in central Louisiana I can grow something all year. But sadly pine trees block most of the sun in mid winter. If not for the power lines near them I`d be ringing those pines to get rid of them. I bought solar panels and batteries thinking I would be on a better lot but plans changed. This one is the most secluded though but those cursed pine trees ruined a whole lot of my most important hopes like solar powered heating in winter. Even in summer the sun is blocked until mid morning then at mid evening so my fig trees may not do well here either.

I would agree that rutabagas are more testy than turnips, although we eat both.

Well, I don't know that making more video is in the proverbial cards, but I appreciate the enthusiasm. Our gardening has been much more restricted in the last couple of years due to time demands. But we still get some good stuff from the garden.

I also carried this dream for many decades. It is a lot of fun, and after so long of seeing it and hearing about it, to just "be there" in the moment is sort of surreal. Dress warm! It gets bitter cold there in the wee hours of the morning that time of year. Our camera froze up, and I had to put it inside my coat to thaw it out so we could finish videoing.
@austinandhisfriends2 ай бұрын
@Realunitedstates well I love the cold. But if it gets REALLY cold there I'll make sure to dress extra warm. By the way "Groundhog day" the Bill Murray movie is what inspired me to go see it someday. I know gobblers knob isn't in the middle of the town like it is in the movie, but either way it still looks fun to go see. Did your camera work fine after that, or did you have to get a new one?

I believe it started in the Congo due to food scarcity they were hunting animals they wouldn’t normally eat & somehow through the butchering or consuming of the animals got infected. Haitian teachers , doctors , engineers etc went there in the early 1960s to help with the crisis in the Congo. I’m sure while they were they may have hooked up with the locals. There was also an outbreak of STDs in the Congo that were treated without sanitation (using dirty needles etc).then there was an illegal blood bank in Haiti that would collect blood without testing it or sanitizing the needles. They would ship this blood to America . Then sex tourism blew up in Haiti in the 1970s. It was very popular among gay North American men. All of these things contributed to the spread of HIV/AIDS

I grew up and graduated in Corswell, as well. Lived on Wells Street. I love Croswell. I joined the Marines out of High School. (Graduated in 1984) Went back to live there for a little while, but, listened to the Ex, too much..Anyway....My Dad was a firefighter in Corswell for 45 Years. My brother was the Fire Chief for 22 Years, but sadly passed away, unexpectedly, while he was the Sitting Fire Chief. He was also the DPW Chief, for many years. I loved growing up there. At that time, the town was booming. Sugar Factory, 2 Aunt Jane's Pickles Locations, all the stores were full. (Ben Franklin / Williams Dept Store/Bakery, and many others) Loved the Sidewalk Sales, and the parades. My First job was at Kettlewells. Many fond memories. I get back there as much as I can. Still trying to talk my wife into moving there. Such a simple life and community.
