There’s a shelter expert that says the real pressure is always at the bottom not the top when burying a shelter. Any update on whether this has held up?

Ill be concreating the floor and using it as the roof. That would solve the issue so the wood acts as a form for the concrete with the steel beams is how many do cement roofs for a block underground container. The roof becomes the floor which is water tight. Weld doors airtight or open into pre entry room. I may overhanng roof and to a wall of brick or may contimue slab to extend roof structure and built to block work, half container half blockwork, double size. Their needs to be a slab so i think making a larger slab us no extra work. However goin to this length i keep comin back to just leaving the container out of the picture and just build blockwork to slab and roof/steel/concrete roof. I want something thats water proof. Any way great vid.

I retired from th ELectric Company and we built the DFW Airport electrical power system. Most of our transmision power lines were buried DEEP! We used 10' X 10' X 10' cement underground vaults for termination rooms. Some as deep as 75' down from the surface. (some guys were too spooked to go down that 3' manhole to work.) The first thing we had to do before we could enter a vault was 1st pump out the water, then replace all the air inside them. Because they were notorious for filling with fuel vapors off those big airplanes. But, all that to say this. Winter of Summer the temperature inside the vaults, didn't matter if it was 75' or 3' deep, was always 72 degrees. So while I'm down in the vault working in short sleeve shirts, the Grunts topside were either suffering through 110 degree heat wave, or freezing their butts off. I loved it! I still hope to be able to bury a container in my property here in Rural North Central Texas. (Tornado Alley) Some good tips on building the containers. I always thought I'd just build out the inside like a rollcage in a race car to support the walls and roof. But filpping it over does make a lot of sense. I was thinking of building a steel truss on top, tied to interior headers and walls inside the container. Maybe buy 2 containers. One good one and one with walls trashed. Cut the bottom off one the trashed one and weld it to the top of the good one that goes underground for a roof reinforcement. then reinforce the inside walls. Good Video my Man!

I’m thinking about buying one of these and turning it into a house. Not burying it. It’ll sit on a slab. Is there any need to do all of that reinforcement? Eventually a second one will go right up against it on the side and a roof pit over the 2.

GREAT GREAT GREAT Idea. FLIP IT OVER. Do you think I can use 4x4 and plywood for walls ? I would definitely use 2 inch "C" beams for edges and side walls (is this the size you used?). Can I use on roof rebars and concrete? and I would be pouring in a way that I have a high center so water and strength of a dome shape?

From past experiences, you should check where your water table is and stay @3' above it , and always only put container on high ground, and install a gravity fed sump installed and backfilled with gravel before setting up your grade

So this is not a Nuke shelter? At a couple feet you will die from neutron and gamma radiation. It needs to be at least 10 feet deep. with two exits. Remember if the blast traps you in... it becomes a coffin. Don't go too deep because you may need to dig your way out. Look up what neutron and gamma radiation did to people in Japan.

5400lbs of steel? just use the container as the inside form and poor concrete. plywood form outside and #4 rebar reinforcement waterproofing, ect.. save your money and do it right. the only steel you will need is for making a 12" concrete filled bomb door and hatches. I can put 6 containers (3-40' 3-20' roughly 1500sqft) in the ground this way and make a luxury bunker for less than the cost of building a new home. materials costs.. $20k for the containers $11k for the concrete (8" fully encased) $5k for the steel $5k for the plumbing, electrical, ductwork and routing. so add in labor, excavation, grading, finishing,, air filtration, water and fuel storage ect.. you can have a 1500sqft fully decked out bunker that can withstand a nuclear attack for less than 150k I was a custom concrete home builder, turned federal HazMat contractor with over 20 years of experience.
