This world is such a sadder place without the music of this awesome woman. She has been the soundtrack of my life since I first heard her in 1968/9. Now all these years later I still need to hear her daily. I want to leave this world to the sounds of Johnny Boy and Something Warm. Then I can fly high.

Wow I didn't know Melanie passed 🙏🏽 If you can perform at WOODSTOCK (AGE 22) you can perform anywhere ... I only knew her tuné "Brand New Key" ... This tuné is mad cool I must say... Play on/ Rock on ✌🏼

While this is not my favorite of all the wonderful songs she created, it is great because it brings out the beauty of her voice more than the others. She has a perfectly unique voice that I will never forget.

Pattie, KZbin sent me this video because I was looking for acoustic covers of my favorite 70s songs. I recently bought a new acoustic as a bonding exercise for my older brother and I. I'm just practicing chords at the top of the fret, standard tuning, and my brother and I are trying songs we know from pop and folk stars of the 70's. Your cover of this Joni Mitchell song is really good, and helps me set a goal for how I'd like to play. Joni Mitchell had her own style and tuning (according to other KZbin channels) so I may not be able to duplicate your efforts. I've always been a big fan of Carol King, Paul McCartney, James Taylor, and America, so I'll be checking out your cover of "Been to Canaan". Thanks for being an inspiration!

Taylor. Who? I was too young to appreciate Melanie’s back in my early teens… but I adored her. I wanted to look like her. Great memories. RIP sweet soul.

Damn she was so much better than anybody else out there doing this genre in the late 70's. She was so talented. My favorite stuff is her soulful bluesy stuff though, but she could obviously do anything she wanted. Love her amazing voice. RIP she will be missed. Wish she would've been in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

It’s a little sad to watch and listen to this bygone era, a time when artists still had their own music, views, and opinions, not like now, they’re all sold out to the dark side, thank you Pattie.

I saw her earlier in the year at a small performance at the Berkeley Community Playhouse where I went to college. I took a rose hoping I could get it to her and I boldly walked up to the small stage and she accepted it. Lay Down has been an emotional anthem to the times and I still feel her beauty and hope when I hear it. Missed.

huge fan since 1967...Melanie was my very favorite! loved Joni M, Joan B, Carole K, Carley S, etc but Melanie was something special and she never got the attention she deserved...brand new key was her worse & her most known song, which does not do her justice, she had a unique voice/lyrics/guitar style...and the cell phones swaying at the concerts all started back w/ Melanie and candles, then bic lighters...
