Had the immense pleasure of seeing The Ripps at Chicago Theater in '99 or 2000; then again in Kalamazoo, MI in 2001. They're truly extraordinary! "Live In LA" is possibly the best live smooth jazz album of its time.

Excellent “classic” incarnation of the Ripps - probably the best version; although all of the cats who’ve sat in are top-shelf musicians

I will always think of this as “ the bridge song”, going over the bridges from Bonita over Little & Big Hickory onto FMB’s south end… the last few miles to paradise. Ian nearly took it away. Rippingtons is the soundtrack to our time there.

And you thought jazz fusion was dead after Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, and Tower of Power rose to jazz fame? No! The Rippingtons, in my two bits, revitalized what we know about jazz fusion. Greatly! In that song "Indian Summer", drummer Tony Morales puts the jazz-rock drive in their jazz fusion. In the middle part of the song, when Tony Morales plays his big drum solo, he is a drummer you can't ignore. The song ends with a trash-can ending in two parts - part 1 is Tony Morales's short drum solo that is something like a very brief fireworks display, and the final chord (part 2 of the trash-can ending), a C# chord power fifth, where Tony continues the "trash-canner" on the drums all the way up to the so-called "stinger" (or crash-out)--and the song ends just like that. Now that's jazz inspired by the rock genre! This is, hence, my most-adored modern jazz fusion number!

Get chills from this often and I've already seen it probably 50 times. I think life can get boring sometimes but than you listen to this solo and it's so intense it stirs up possibility

Saw them in Ft Worth TX on the Curves tour. Incredible shows... I rarely ask for autographs but I was listening to Tourist in Paradise on the way to show and took the CD Sleeve, (small place I figured if I see Russ Freeman, maybe a sig.) He had the entire Band sign it! Incredibly talented and graciously classy! The whole group
Gimme the Ripps and Uban Knights and lock me in a room forever.

I went to this gig in '92. I was further back, and loads of us came forward as the gig went on. Yes, it was amazing. And we fully knew it was. We knew it was brilliant. But today, Drake is so much better. A bot shouts and stuff, over an AI single chord. And anyone who says otherwise is a howwible waycist.
