LOL! I had to chuckle at the end about shutting down the bike while in gear. Hey, we're all human. I remember while riding my son's Grom I'd forget to pull the clutch in before I shifted and guess what? It didn't matter! Believe it or not it went into gear like the clutch was not even needed, which I found interesting. I would not recommend doing this though because I'm sure that would damage things in time, but my point is we all make silly mental mistakes while riding at times. It doesn't help when we get older and I find myself making more of those silly mistakes. I turn our SUV off when I come to a stop and forget to put it in park. I've done this more than once. ;) Thanks for the video once again!

Thanks for the comment! Honda says to always go to Neutral before shutting down the bike. Better for the DCT, But I didn't really shut it down, I lowered the side stand while it was in gear - and that instantly kills the engine. I'm usually quite good with that - except when there's a camera rolling, I guess.

@@CenoMoto33 I've always felt that putting most bikes in neutral is difficult. It's the half-shift precision that is very tricky. Not a fan, but I know it's ideal.

I watched this video last week, but just now getting around to responding. Anyway, this bike looks amazingly comfortable, especially with that seat! As you know I complain more than anything about the saddle on my bike. :) But, I don't usually ride long enough to justify a seat upgrade. Maybe one day. For now I settle on the park bench!

I'm the same way - I like to be thoughtful in my comments or replies, So I might wait a couple of days after watching a video before commenting, In a sense, I think I'm playing catch-up. Having just gotten my license this year, I'm trying to pack in a whole bunch of experiences before older age sets in. Things like getting the bigger bike, the Corbin seat (used), different helmets and jackets, etc, My rides aren't very long either, usually under 90 minutes.

@@CenoMoto33 There's no better time than the NOW. ;) I was just browsing your bike on Cycle Trader. Very nice. I'd consider one of those no doubt. It also has a much lower seat height which would make it easier to keep steady when stopped. I can't keep both feet flat on the ground with my bike, but it's light enough that it's no big deal. One toe-tip at a stop light is doable. Anything heavier than 300 pounds I'd need a shorter seat height.

@@Trekopolis When I traded in my ADV, I told them I was interested in a DCT bike. I sat on 3 models...NC-750X DCT, Rebel 1100 DCT, CTX700D. The NC-750X was really sharp and had a ton of storage, but it had a slightly higher seat height and I had a bit of a problem mounting and dismounting. The Rebel 1100 was by far the easiest to mount but it felt so top heavy, it actually scared me. The CTX700 was a great fit immediately, and it's center of gravity is very low -- just like the ADV -- it was the obvious choice. And BTW, if my finances and garage space were what I'd like them to be, I'd have kept the ADV and still get the CTX. so they could be buddies.

Howdy. I lost Blue last month in a crash. But I have since got a 2014 DCT - the same except older and in red. I plan to do another "intro" video with the new bike soon, after I replace the spark plugs. I'll list the items I used for the mods/upgrades. There is no "kit" for an LED upgrade as far as I know. Two weeks ago, I was unfortunately in a crash with the CTX700. I am fine, but the bike was totaled. Yep, right after I did all the mods, and one more that I did after the video was made, a 91 year old lady turned left in front of me, and I couldn't avoid it. Didn't help that she drove off and left me in the intersection with a bike that couldn't move. But two witnesses chased her down, and held her till the police showed up. For real! That was the last time I saw my bike. As I was getting in the ambulance, the towing service took away my wheels. Insurance got her the next day and declared it a total loss. It all seems unreal, like a really lousy TV movie. But I found and bought another CTX700D, that I should be getting this weekend. We'll see.

I have a CTX700 same year, same color. I rode it last week from Missouri to Texas and back. Two 650 mile days. I upgraded to a Corbin seat when I got it. I’m 63 and this was the longest trip I’ve taken since I was in my 20’s. The bike handled the trip much better than my body did. I got 186 miles on a 3.1 gallon tank. Pretty impressive. I love this bike!

Thanks for the mention once again! I never thought in a million years I'd be anyone's inspiration and boy, that's a rewarding thing to hear and I truly appreciate that. It's great to see others get out there and ride and conquer their fears. The first time I rode my ADV150 on a real ride (outside of my neighborhood) with my son and his friend I'm not going to pretend I wasn't nervous. But, after about 20 minutes the nervousness turned into complete joy. Here's to many more rides my friend! I enjoy your commentary BTW.

I have been riding my CTX700 since 2014. No problems so far. Only need maintenance every 4000 miles. Just no power - I guess only 45hp. But 70miles/gallon. I was thinking about upgrading, but looking at the 900 - 1000cc bikes, about 40miles/gallon. Forget it.

Thanks for the comment. I was initially happy with the scooter, at only 18hp. But when I started on bigger roads with more traffic, I could see right away how small I was, and at times underpowered. The CTX does make a positive difference in that regard. And I can finally see how hp is such an important factor - something I didn't see at first. I would like a few more hps too, but that would likely change the weight and/or the center of gravity. And that's where I say Forget It.

Can the dct spec take engine mods for power increase?
@CenoMoto33
@CenoMoto33 2 ай бұрын
@@out_lawt.v.8421 It stands to reason that if the engine has more power, then the DCT would deliver it. But the DCT might have some limitations in that regard. Newer Honda Rebel 1100's have a DCT option. That engine has more power, but the DCT might be an upgraded version to handle that increased power. We're talking about a 10 year difference, from when the CTX700 first appeared in 2014, and the newer Rebel 1100 in 2024.

Nice bike! A very thoughtful transition from an automatic scooter to an automatic motorcycle. For small items to take along on a ride, take a look at the BURLY Brand waxed cotton backpack. A very tasteful, utilitarian bag for short jaunts that’s made in England. I use it on the scooter and the 750 Honda Shadow when I commute to work.

From a riding gear standpoint, it appears you’re off to a great start! Your jacket appears to be robust with I assume armour. Full face helmet- excellent! I can only get a glimpse of your riding pants, but I’d assume they are armored as well. I’ve seen too many scooter riders unprotected from road rash. Our neighbor to the east of us, Idaho, does not have a helmet law in place. Perhaps you could do a piece on your riding gear and any changes you may be considering for your Honda. I’ve swapped out the stock rubber on my ADV150 for a pair of Michelin City Grip 2’s for a little more grip during those pop up rain squalls common to these parts and a Honda top box since I commute to and from work

Thanks for commenting. Now I'm gonna have to disappoint you a bit by telling you I haven't bought padded/armoured pants yet. I have two brands saved in my Amazon wishlist, just didn't make a purchase yet. I do have a full face, and a modular helmet (both Bell), and three jackets, all with basic armour. I live in PA, where they recently relaxed the mandatory helmet law (2 or 3 years ago I think.) I can't come up with an intelligent guess as to why that happened. I'm planning to do a video showing more of the bike and some of my thoughts on it. I just got a Bluetooth mic yesterday so I can talk without having to use the helmet's headset. Today was the first time I rode specifically to do a little shopping - all my previous rides were for riding only. Walking into a store wearing a red leather jacket and carrying a helmet made me feel a little self-conscious. But I got over it in about 15 seconds!

Welcome to the world of scooters! I am 70 and started on a 650 Yamaha VStar Classic, a cruiser style motorcycle in 2012. I had been an avid mountain biker riding single track wooded trails in the Pacific NW since my 20’s, so motorcycling, to me, felt to be a natural transition from the bicycle in regards to weight shifting. In 2014 I purchased a 1690 cc Harley Davidson Heritage Softail. I sold it in ‘22 because I only put 9400 miles on it and 2/3 of those miles was commuting to work in city traffic. I purchased my ‘23 ADV 150 last year and it’s been a true delight! Though I did still have a desire for a cruiser, so I got a 750 Honda Shadow Aero. Great for commuting and the occasional 55mph Eastern Washington State backroads with my big bore biking (senior citizen)buddies. Thanks for your channel and I look forward to more of your videos!

Thank you for commenting. Now that I've been scootering for a few months, I kind of wish that I had started with moto when I was a lot younger. But I remember having no desire at all to do so back then. With age comes wisdom?? Having no previous moto experience, I wanted to avoid anything powerful and/or heavy. I also like having both brakes on the bar, and not shifting. I realize that manual shift is the gold standard, and for good reason, but I really think having to shift would not suit me in the long run. DCT transmissions have distinct gears, unlike CVTs, but it seems they don't use DCTs on lower displacement engines. Don't know why that is.

Certain GoPro (and competitors') models have GPS built in. My Hero10 has it, but the Hero12 does not. Nice piece. I really like the overlays - they add a lot to the videos. I’d enjoy an ADV 160 review or thoughts, if you ever decide to do that. Not many in the states are riding or sharing about it on youtube. I’m debating between this scooter and the Honda Grom. I’m a shorter/lighter guy who just wants to do local commuting and non-highway driving in southern California, and on paper, both have their pros and cons. It would be my first bike to own (though I have experience in riding rental manual transmission bikes and CVT scooters in my Asia travels - all under 125cc) and my heart wants a Grom for the lightness and nimbleness, but my brain wants an ADV for it’s built in storage, and general versatility. The main hesitation I have with the ADV is that I don’t think scooters are that ergonomic, especially for the back, compared to a motorcycle. All the weight goes down on your ass and vibrations go into the back, where as on a motorcycle, it seems more distributed between your feet, legs, arms and ass. Also, the ADV, at 60 pounds heavier than the Grom, might be a little big for me (5’6”, 125lbs). But other than that, it looks pretty awesome. Anyhow, thanks for the pleasant ride sharing. I stopped wearing a wallet in my back pocket long ago. The best back pocket, in my opinion, is no back pocket.

Thanks for commenting. I didn't consider doing a review of the ADV160 because I have watched so many of them, I thought it might be overkill. But most of those reviews are from riders in Asian countries, where the scooters are far more common. Even if they weren't speaking English, I'd watch to get as much info as I could. But doing a review from my perspective does appeal to me now. I agree with you about the weight distribution of hands/feet/ass on a motorcycle being different from a scooter. On a scooter you're in a sitting position with knees at approx 90 degrees. While you can brace yourself by putting downward force on your feet, it's different from a cycle where your legs are in a "spring loaded" position. I've only been on one other motorbike, a Suzuki TU250X for the MSF course. It took a day for me to get used to where the pegs were, but once I did, it felt very natural. And yes, on the ADV I've gotten shocks to the spine on bumps/potholes that weren't easily seen or avoided. If you can, visit a Honda sports shop and sit on the ADV, Grom, etc. Mount/dismount, duckwalk the bike, and do garage type maneuvers (engine off) - it's the only way to help pinpoint which bike will be your first. I am convinced that you will be getting your first bike in fairly short order!

@@CenoMoto33 Thanks for the honest insight! Yes, I’ve seen several reviews from the Philippines and Japan, where the bike seem to be popular, and tried to gauge as much as I can - but having a USA perspective would be valuable (and I think popular over the long run) since the driving culture and roads are very different here. Most of the USA stuff is either about really powerful bikes or doing poppy-wheels and other stuff I really don’t have interest in - and I think your perspective would cater towards a different kind of rider. Fyi, I found your page through Trekopolis, whose thoughts and reviews were fun and useful as well. I’m a USA citizen but have been living in Taiwan for the past few years, where everyone drives a scooter. I also borrow and drive one occasionally. I haven’t had much of an opportunity to drive a motorcycle (aside from an old manual transmission honda 110cc in Vietnam several years back, which some traveller gave to me and I learned to drive on the spot - but it’s been so long I’ve forgotten what it is like to drive a motorcycle), but my plan is to come back to the USA (San Diego) early next year, and have either a scooter or motorcycle as my main form of local transportation (renting or sharing a car when needed). While I love the practicality of the Scooter, the spirit of a motorcycle is appealing - and unfortunately I don’t have much real world experience to go by other than reviews. But one thing is for sure, I’m going to get one when I go back, because i love riding on two wheels (human and non-human powered), and I love the minimal and cost savings aspect of them as well. San Diego, where I am from, also seems like a beautiful place to own a bike - but life there is very costly (luckily I have a piece of land from a long time ago). It’s come down to either the Grom or ADV for me (and I go back and forth endlessly) - and it’s surprisingly difficult to get a hold of either. I am considering making a trip to thailand and also renting out both bikes if I can - but till then, I’m in the research stage (and just enjoy watching these youtube videos). Whether you make a review or not, I do enjoy your content and perspective. As you know, I’d be particularly interested in hearing about your experience with the ergonomics of the motorcycle you drove versus that of a scooter. Be well ✪

@@iamrishio You certainly seem to have your act together! I never lived in another country, but I have been to Japan three times. I've had stick shift cars before, and I loved them. So I do get what the spirit of a motorcycle is, and why it's the gold standard. But I wouldn't want a stick shift car now that I'm older. That reasoning also helped lead me to the scooter. To get to open roads, I have to go thru town where it's stop/start/rinse/repeat - and can be a drag even on a CVT. I'm in Bethlehem, PA - so different from San Diego, which does seem like an ideal place to own and ride a motorbike. If you haven't already, you should check out the channel of MotoJitsu here on KZbin. He's a former Marine, former moto instructor, and has a TON of instructional videos. He aims his videos towards beginners, and advanced riders alike. There's a lot to see and digest there. I mention him because he's in San Diego as well. I do understand the difficulty in making a decision on your first bike. It's gotta be something you can enjoy, and hopefully master. But you're not stuck with that decision forever. You'll likely find that a beefier bike will appeal to you at some point. Not a monster, just a little more beef. But it's nice to have a neighboring scooter rider - I'm in PA. I'm starting to take longer rides in areas a bit further away. Riding the same roads that I learned on, over and over, gets old.
