I played FNV a year after it came out, then 3,4, and then Fallout 1,2, and Tactics. I dont care if people " enjoy" 76. I dont deem it canon seeing its a prequel and a RETCON to the whole franchise. Its the same with Diablo. I uninstalled Diablo 3, went back to playing Diablo 1 and 2. And i refuse to acknowledge Diablo 4's existence.

Adaptations should be analysed on two metrics. Its consistency to the source material, especially when it is intended to be canon. And, secondly, its own merit as a work of television/cinema/literature. As a work of television, the show is mediocre. Competent in some aspects, I don't want to discredit the mostly excellent set and costume design, and the performances are typically good, although entire characters end up being stunted by poor writing. The reason it has received acclaim is because it is derived from a well-known IP and television has been on a decline, with part of the reason why being hypocritical consumers who would rather watch Disney+ and Netflix shows and subsequently complain how unoriginal everything is, despite never engaging with more niche material. Judging the show based on its attachment to a pre-existing series, it gets even worse. I see people using the argument that "This is *so* Fallout!" to describe the show's crude violence, comedy that hinges on one or more person being completely inept, and general gross-out content. What makes Fallout great, to me, is its ability to take the absurd and recontextualise it in a post-apocalyptic setting. A great example is The Kings from New Vegas. They're an organised crew of Elvis impersonators. If Bethesda made New Vegas, their existence would have ended there, as a punchline. Yet, despite how comedic they seem at first, they're treated as actual inhabitants of the world rather than just a pop culture reference, with multiple questlines that weigh heavily on the fate of Freeside and their future with the NCR and/or The Strip. Suddenly, this "joke" expands the world and influences your involvement in the story. I think it's one of the things that make New Vegas, and especially Fallout 2, so beloved. 'Fallout (2024)' feels like it can't decide whether it wants to be a show in its own right, or just a game stripped of its interaction, and that's to its detriment. The show uses game logic when it's convenient but forgets that the lack of interactivity should intrinsically make for a different viewing experience. As much as I love Fallout, I don't just want to see a game performed by real people - that goes for almost all adaptations. Visual arts have their own strengths over interactive arts. Therefore, they should prioritise the visual aspects of the show and turn down all the faux-role-playing that only makes it feel less immersive and like it should be taken less seriously. I didn't mean for this to be so long-winded, but by Allah, reading the Fallout Wiki raw is more engaging than the vast majority of this show.
