What is the wheelbase length now the rear axel was moved forward. I like this combination it is awesome! Kind of makes me think of the length of the old square body K5 Chevy Blazer.

You cut off the main frame support for the rear spring hangers, and the area that you bolted the spring hangers onto now are much weaker than the stock location because they have no backing plates and no frame crossmember support. over time your frame is going to warp and you will get axle wrap on your rear end.. The correct way to do a short bed conversion requires cutting off the factory weld at the rear of the frame and sliding the rear section of the frame forward after removing 14" of the frame out of the middle . this way you keep the frame crossmembers. it takes alot of cutting grinding and welding. I wish it was that easy like you showed in the video.

If it works, it works. The owner could get some cross members welded up on the frame. Worse case scenario he could get a 4 link/3link wishbone suspension in the rear.

The way you explain is way more work and needs to be welded together properly. Cross members are cheaper to get and and the back plate for the hangers can also get way easier than cutting he factory welds and sliding the frame inward to get the frame 14 less. There’s plenty of videos on people doing it this way. Easier and cheaper many 2500Hd are done this way to keep the frame from being cut in half.

Why wouldn't you just trade for a short bed truck. The long beds are rare and desirable to people that use their trucks for work.

Damn right, I have an 88 Extended Cab Long Bed, I see a lot of OBS trucks but they have the small bed, very rare seeing long beds, I would never convert it because I actually use mine for work and Haul stuff around all the time

Lucky ass California-Texas Mexicans it’s never that simple working on my truck in Pennsylvania every bolt strips or line breaks from rust and once you remove the bed you need to reweld strut mounts subframe connectors in the frame really gotta drive out that way for my next build

I wouldn’t recommend just chopping the back half and leaning the cross member off but do what you gotta do I guess I cut the frames and weld them back like factory I charger 1,500 In Vegas

It will look pretty cool lowerd with a paint job it will definitely be different from all the rest. Don't think I've ever seen a super short bed. The gas tank has to be mounted under the truck even if a Kustom tank has to be made.

I got two short beds , one is a 1989 and one is a 1996 and both frames are great , the 89 has a 350 with 5 speed standard trans and the 96 has a 4.3 V-6 and 5 speed standard trans , both are 5 Lug and 1500 or 1/2 Ton 2 wheel drive if you are interested in saving a lot of work and time ?
