GFS is a SHADY Company. Just know if you receive a product that got damaged in shipping YOU Will be the one paying for shipping it back to them!! Even after being forced to buy insurance 😂If thats a companies policy you know they are selling cheap and defective products!!! 😂😂😂

had you used an uncovered pickup it would fit in pickguard- that is a common mod- gfs bodies are fine and the pickups are pretty good .

I did a complete stratocaster build with an XGP neck and body from Guitarfetish. Overall, it turned out alright. I definitely learned a lot from going through the process. The first issue I had was that they sent me the incorrect tremolo arm which they corrected. I had to sand the neck pocket because the finish on the neck made it slightly too thick to fit in the pocket. The curvature on the back of the pocket and neck also didn't match up, so I had to sand away some of the back of the pocket to make the neck sit back far enough to get the proper scale length. The product IDs on the pickups were not on the website so I had to use my multimeter to measure their impedance. The neck is the amber stained maple neck with a maple fretboard. It looks and feels pretty good, but I'm pretty sure they used a cheap peace of maple to build it. The grain pattern on the back of the neck looks like it was plain sawn instead of quarter sawn which is probably why it seems to be less stable than the necks on my other guitars.

One thing I’d like to say, is you bought a $60 neck $50 body with $20 pick ups and it sounds like you’re expecting it to be like an American made guitar it’s not going to be you have to put it in perspective

you picked low output vintage pickups ive heard the 59 and they sound pretty good. there is a chance you didnt know what you were buying. those are not some high output poppy punk/ metal pickup ( although alot of metal and stoner rock guys love vintage spec pickups). im listening to you play them now and they defiantly sound better than squier pickups. i think you must want high output pickups, those pickups sound pretty descent. my biggest suggestion would be dont make something work if it come messed up ( the only part i think was bad was if the neck pocket was really not flat) call the company get a replacement and dude that humbucker sounds pretty good to

You can have issues with a scratch built guitar also you could measure wrong or cod have orderd the wrong parts any can happen. I learned that from luthier that owned a boutique guitar comp and I've been told wood is replacabale so if you screw up you can fix it .. I've bought from them before and their dinky body's don't work with their dinky style necks pocket idms to smalll heel is to wide just about. All their stuff is made in China so if you had. Bought parts off eBay from China pretty much same issues, maybe worse. I bought a neck figured it said 56mm sorta well nope it was much bigger of a heel than me 😆

To be fair, GFS "Basics" line clearly states the parts will need some extra work. Not sure if the XGP and Lido bodies/necks are much better.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I haven't had any issues with GFS or Harley Benton either one. I hope this didn't turn you off to the company, as they have some pretty awesome stuff. You can make a true beast for very little money. I will say this. The most suprized I've ever been, is when I got my $75 Harley Benton kit. Everything was flawless and all components were usable. Actually I can't speak for the tuners. I put musiclilly locking tuners off the bat. My two cents.

It is a crap shoot with these guys. I got a tele custom body and the neck pocket was not routed out enough for their own neck, advertised to fit perfectly, to fit. So I say, based on buying 2 other bodies from them in the past, is it is 50/50 that you will be happy. If you are not, that savings goes right down the drain.

I was just reading in the Strat-Talk Forum where the guy was saying that everything he ever bought from GFS he had to return. He also said that GFS was kicked off of eBay for bad reviews. I just bought a Paulownia body off of GFS and returned it because the neck I bought it for didn't fit. Seems like junk to me.

My main question is...Why do you need more than Squier if you are just a beginner? I suggest only building a guitar if you know exactly what you want, or you are experimenting, and you don't care about the end result. I researched almost a year before putting together a Tele and I have been playing 20+ years and Teles are relatively simple to construct.

I have bought several Guitarfetish necks. Two have Not been even worth using- Garbage Can. One had the Fretboard turn up so much that The strings hit the 12th fret. No doing anything about it. Not worth Tearing the fretboard off and gluing another on and fretting. Garbage Can Material. 6 or 7 were decent. i have Squire necks that are WAY Better.

Lots of harshness in the comments. I for one am happy you made the video. I’ve never built a guitar before but I am in the waiting phase of redoing an old epiphone s-300. Got a humbucker and wiring harness on the way as we speak. I hope you enjoyed some part of your build, either as a learning experience, or just some bonding time with your significant other. The pickups did sound pretty aweful, especially the single coils. But it is pretty. Looks like it might be a good “decorative piece” as opposed to an actual player. Did adjusting the singles up or down make any difference in the tone?

Yes those pickups are just not that warm and dynamic but sound pretty much the same on every setting, even with the overdrive. I have heard worse, but those aren't that great.

Thank you so much for your honest critique of your GF purchase. I bought 2 GF guitars that have been disappointing purchases. One was an Xavier XV 900 and the other was a Earl Slick SL 5. The pickups on both guitars are sub standard for recording music directly into a computer through a Focusrite interface and using Protools as a DAW. And I am going to need to spend about 400 per guitar to fix all the problems with them. They do look cool and they have basically okay bodies and neck, but the frets all need leveling on both guitars to actually make them playable. And new/better pickups on both guitars is needed.

I had different issues with the Pro 900 I bought. It looked nice but didn't play very well, high action which couldn't be brought down to where I wanted and was comfortable with via nut, bridge or truss rod adjustments. I had to resort to a full grind and polish and then a setup in order to get it playing and intonated right. So, if you order one be prepared to spend an additional $200 after you get it. I ordered a "USA Spec" strat body in vintage sunburst which the company claims them as comparing favorably to bodies in the $200-400 range. The body is advertised as made from solid hardwoods but there is no indication of the type of wood. The one I got was made from 3 very noticeable and distinct pieces of wood, the grain patterns and joint liners are obvious and I later found out from the company that they use Aspen Wood, which is a soft wood, softer than poplar or pine. The price was like $99 and got a $99 body, maybe, no way it'd ever be confused with or comparable to even a $200 body much less one that'd go for $400. The oddest part was that earlier in the year I got one of their "Import Quality" Lido bodies, a tele shape in vintage sunburst, it was like $69. It was made from poplar and didn't have that 3 separate piece look. It was a farebeater value than the USA spec strat.

The xgp is so reasonable why would you buy a b stock whole sale. You need to be an experienced Luthier to make that guitar an instrument. If you were that unhappy you should have returned it. Sorry bud this one's on you. Even the nicest guitars have to get neck shims from time to time. You aren't going to get an American body from anyone for closeout pricing. It's a 100% closeout China reject that no other company would accept so I don't know what you were actually thinking. You might as well have paid 230$ for a built xavier or slik and let a professional hand build it for you. You really just sound like a whiny brat. Sorry it wasn't wht you wanted. When things aren't going your way maybe it's time to lower your expectations.

That sucks! I've been interested in making a GFS build for some time now, but have always worried about everything you said was wrong. I know that pickups can be a subjective thing. I liked them enough that I'm going stop wasting time on YT and practice on my strat. Thanks for sharing!

Did you realize you were using a saved preset when channel B is SOLID and not at actual default preset of that particular amp model on the dial? You are not switching to default clean and dirty setting on that amp model by pressing A and B, its the saved one that could be from any amp model. Its a HUGE flaw and misunderstanding about this pedal that I discovered day one. I do think the pedal sounds good but only when running it through an effects return tube amp.

I recently bought an SG diy kit from Guitar Fetish and the pre-drilled holes for the bridge and saddle were off center. I sent it back to GFS and they refunded me, I felt they should have reimbursed me for shipping as well since this was a defective kit and not my fault. They would not, nor would they reply to my email. I ended up buying another kit- but from a different company. And I bought better pickups-from another company. I am going to upgrade the tuners also, but will buy from another company. Your build does look very good!

I have had several XGP bodies. Their paint jobs are crap. Good luck on a Tele body even putting ferules in. If you look at the paint wrong it flakes off in quarter sized chunks. I have had 3 that did that. I finally gave up on those bodies..
