"Down in Texas" - FYI - In case you're a Building Science Engineer or Construction Tradesman/woman, the reason the ceiling joists are being painted are several. The main reason (long explanation below!) was to cover the wood joists with a Mold-resistant paint (Kilz) to prevent/stop future mold growth. These ceiling joists once held very old matted & deteriorating fiberglass batts (above a drywall ceiling). Hence, that entire space above the drywall ceiling (joists, roof truss/rafters, etc.) was a vented attic space exposed to outside temperature & humidity (mostly). Being in South Texas near the Gulf Coast, 90+% (RH) humidity is a daily occurrence. And with poor attic ventilation (its a 70yr old house), mold growth would easily come & go... not a real problem b/c it would disappear as the attic got hot the majority of middays and there was still some attic ventilation...and this attic was (fairly well) sealed from the conditioned bldg envelope below it. Well, this renovation is fully enclosing the attic, bringing it inside the building envelope. It now becomes part of the indoor conditioned space (with appropriate insulation, sealing, etc., per IBC/IRC/IECC codes). Even though a drywall ceiling will still be installed to the bottom of these ceiling joists, the joists will still be exposed to the new conditioned attic air space. If left as is, previous mold spores on the joist could easily grow & spread during the few heating months of year when humidity is added to conditioned space (well above outside RH). Since the attic could still become a reservoir for humidity/water vapor, if the HVAC were to fail for just a few days for instance, mold growth could become astronomical. Hence, KILZ was painted onto every ceiling joist & dbl top plate in the conditioned attic space. Rafters were not painted since those would be enclosed in insulation and behind drywall. (Now imagine spray foaming those rafters and cutting drywall to fit into that attic space... a lot of drywall tape will be needed lol... what a LOT of work!) I chose to paint the joists w/KILZ instead of just washing them with a bleach solution because they are connected to the dbl top plate with galvanized hurricane metal connectors... I don’t want bleach solution to possibly degrade the metal connectors. And there's a lot of them! Besides, if i have to go over every surface of every ceiling joist, might as well paint it. (Oh! The area you are seeing has new joists, for a new ceiling dropdown ladder that was installed (left side of video). All the original joist were pretty ugly dirty looking. Now you might ask yourself why bother bringing this attic into the building envelope? ALL THE UTILITIES runs thru this space to the rest of the whole house... water, gas, electrical, HVAC, cable/internet, etc. In my experience, there's always been some failure every few years when such equipment & materials are run in an unconditioned attic space that exceeds 135+degF daily summer and sometimes below freezing in winter (think Feb2021 TX Deep Freeze). Now I hope I've answered every possible question, doubt and whatnot lol.

Hey jakefromstatefarm4771! Are YOU a bone-smuggler yourself or something? ITS ELEVATOR MUSIC! What...you come from the low country where you've never been in an elevator? or let me guess...you were born in a generation that's never heard of "ELEVATOR MUSIC"!

Hey jakefromstatefarm4771! Being from TEXAS and having raised several boys to grow up as young strong straight men, who look like Dwayne Johnson The Rock... What I've found is that folks like you, who sound like you, are actually deeply inherently gay... deep deep deep inside. You are so fearful of being viewed as gay, looked at as gay, or sounding gay...because deep inside, you really are gay and you're still wondering if , how, and when you will ever think of yourself as actually gay. You don't want the whole world to find out. If the world didn't have these taboos and prejudices and a completely free unbiased society existed, you know deep inside that you would just simply COME OUT! Therefore. You. Are. Afraid. Really... it's not hard to figure out psychologically with folks like you, and with comments above like that. Do me and my fellow Texans a favor... this world would be better off if your genes didn't make it to the next generation. We don't need it. All People are fine as they are. Leave them alone, and we'll leave you alone.
