Saw the jib still cleated before the righting and figured it was going to go south as soon as the boat was on its feet. Skipper went back to steer the boat to weather but the still sheeted jib was not allowing the bow to come up. All the focus was on urgency in getting the crew back on board. But the crew had a decent hold on the boat and there was time to stop, look around, and assess the situation as to why the boat was not heading up. Easy for me to Monday morning quarterback, but it's a really important lesson to learn from this. I made a similar mistake of acting in unneeded urgency then missing an obvious component of a solution. Sometimes you DO have to act fast. But recognize situations when you don't and take the time to figure stuff out. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your advice...this way of righting up the boat was a lesson for us....learning from your mistakes. Loosen the jib...or uncleat it in this amount of wind will relax the boat...and easier to climb onboard 🤙

@@PTXclusive I once had a Hobie 16 capsized in 30+ knots 10 miles out. With the mast to the wind, she would have capsized as soon as she righted. So, we stood on the bow to get the stern to blow down to get the bows to wind before righting. Attempt after attempt, It was not working, so I gave due to the urgency of righting the boat. After about a half dozen times of having the boat re-capsize, I finally determined there was no urgency in righting the boat. We stood on the hull and took a nice break. Then we stood on the bows again and I took my time to observe what was going on. It turned out the main was acting like a sea anchor preventing the boat from spinning bows to wind. I grabbed the sheets and pulled the main out of the water, stood on the bow and the boat turned immediately were we needed it to be. My lesson: Assess whether action is needed immediately, and if not, stop and examine the situation.

Mag ik een suggestie doen? In videotitels 'half wind' vervangen door 'reach' of 'beam reach'. 'Half wind' bestaat niet als zeilterm in het Engels. Lekkere video's dat wel!

Wow, I thought my Hobie 18 was wet, but this is crazy!! Good thing you guys have got dry-suits on! And the main sheet is attatched with that little bit of cord at the bottom? Is that normal for the boat? Great vid, boys!! Cool fun!!

It is a WET-a... In this clip we are with 195 kg crew on the boat. This is a little too much in my opinion. It makes the boat much wetter and slower compared to sailing alone! With less weight, the bow comes out of the water and less spray comes above the trampoline. The mainsheet setup is conform Weta standard.

no idea - with much wind I'll put them almost all the way up (with beam reach and spinnaker) - about 20cm left under the boat - otherwise you will drift too much aside I think.

What point of sail is this? To the true wind? Beam reach, broad reach? How deep can you go efficiently? I was a unirig sailor from the late 70's-80's, Nacra 18sq meters class. I'm in the U.S.A., Washington state near Seattle.
@PTXclusive
@PTXclusive 10 ай бұрын
I think it's called broad reach - depends on the amount of wind how deep we go - if there is less wind - you might go up to beam reach - but then you flatten the spinnaker and your hands will get sore 🙂 I am sailing a Nacra Inter 20 with my dad - and sometimes an Nacra 18 Infusion with clubmembers.

Always easier to climb back aboard at the rear beam. Generally the rear beam is lower to the water and you can climb between the rudder con bar and the beam, you'll have control or the helm better too.
@maxberlinski3916
@maxberlinski3916 Ай бұрын
@@kevindutch8499 when the boat is in motion climbing from the rear beam is risky, you would need to go under the boat and catch something at the back or else the boat will sail away, Also I am an owner of a nacra inter 20 and climbing from the front is actually easier.
