The slide about determining viable seeds was really helpful. I am interested in planting rice for my home garden for personal use. When the presentation talked about greater spacing for richer soils, is there a way to tell how rich your soil is before planting? Thanks for the presentation. It was informative! 😊

I am practicing SRI for third year now by organic farming.Last two years I got 1800kgsof mapillai samba and Athur kichili per acre.The important thing is that we have to put more involvement and hard work in this method. Thank you.

This is the way forward for rice cultivation in India. The unscientific methods we are using are no more sustainable. Government should actively promote SRI method.

Yes, completely agree. Especially small land holders that are already growing rice but struggling to make a living. The Best part is that it greatly reduces the costs of inputs while increasing the yields. It is an easy transition to organic standards as well when the land gets healthier and pests and diseases are less of a problem. When they have a certified organic product they can sell for much more money to Europe and the US.

Push Hands is not sparring. True students of Tai Chi Chuan know this. Push hands trains the skill of joining and adhering, as well as yielding, neutralizing, and issuing force. These skills are fundamental to Tai Chi Chuan.

lol, 50t/ha is crazy. That can't be true. I've heard the best people doing SRI are getting 12-16t/ha. But they have been doing it for over 10 years. The soil gets better each year because SRI is good for the biology in the soil and increases the carbon and nutrients. 12-16t/ha is still amazing when you consider in the United States using all the fancy chemicals and fertilizers they only average 6.5t/ha on their mega farms. Mas holek you can easily expect to increase your yield by 50% the first year compared to traditional methods, from 4t/ha to 6t/ha. or if your land is producing poorly possibly a lot more. like going from 1.5t/ha to 4.5t/ha a 150% increase if you have good compost, manure, and water management. You will get better at the SRI management as the years go by just like how the soil will grow better rice using SRI over the years.

Sounds like a more labour intensive (and thus greater yeilding) method than the natural 'do nothing' method invented by Masanobu Fukuoka. SRI shares many of his principles except that he advocates broadcast seeding (in seed balls) into the standing stubble and trash of the previous crop.
@TS-vr9of
@TS-vr9of 3 жыл бұрын
Weeding is done by hand or hoe unless the rows are straight. The rotary weeder makes SRI better for easy organic production. The plants are also healthier in SRI, more leaves, heavier grains, deeper roots. the large spacing allows plants to fully express themselves and the numerous and larger leaves have maximized photosynthesis letting them put out more root exudates and increase soil organic matter and biology rather fast.

Master Tung would last maybe 15 seconds against Chu Xiao Dong or any legitimate MMA athlete in a real fight. I studied Chinese martial arts from the time I was 10 unto my 20's. I watched Bruce Lee, Jacky Chan, Jet Li, Donny Yen, and Wu Jing and their beautiful performances in movies. And yes, I am Chinese. I read the novels of Jin Rong and Gu Long. Part of me will always buy into the Chinese martial arts fantasies. "Our martial arts enable us to beat anyone". But I know now that it's self delusion. Our martial arts tradition is a tradition of dance and choreographed precison, but it has little to do with combat. If you define martial arts as techniques useful in fighting, then Chinese martial arts like tai chi are fake. Take a professional MMA fighter, who runs, jumps rope, works on striking, wrestling, ground game, and then put him up against one of these masters of tai chi, wing chun, you name it. It won't be a contest. These masters can't fight. They know how to defend against slow, choreographed attacks. "If you come at me like THIS, I will do THIS and defeat you!!" None of this works in a real fight. There is too much random movement, too much speed, and the masters have never been hit and don't train to withstand being hit, which happens in real fights. I wish some Chinese martial arts master would step up and prove me wrong, and show me that our martial arts is really the best. But sadly, I am still waiting and I don't see it happening.

You are kind of talking about 2 separate things though. If Rorian Gracie fought against a legitimate in-his-prime MMA fighter, he'd lose. If Gregg Popovich played against an in-his-prime bench player 1v1, he'd lose. People who train to fight need to have the right skillset, the right physical abilities, and be relatively close to their prime. What they absolutely do not need to have is a deeper understanding of what is going on than everyone else. They need to be extremely skilled and knowledgeable but they all have teachers or masters who understand what they are doing better than they do except in extremely rare circumstances. Your basic argument is that if Bill Belichick could not compete against the Jaguars, than it is self delusion for him to think that he understands football. It is a bad argument.

I am an old student of Grandmaster Tung Kai Ying. He has said push hands is not fighting. Fighting is fighting. Push hands teaches many skills valuable for well being, personal balance, and calmness under duress among many others. It is my understanding that Grandmaster Tung had to engage other martial artists in his youth in Hong Kong and in Asia as the Tung school grew. To be able to fight, one must train to fight. To train to fight in MMA requires much more than just learning push hands. That is a personal choice. Tai Chi Chuan training has many benefits without having to train to fight. That being said, Grandmaster Tung’s grandfather Tung Ying Chieh (that taught Grandmaster Tung) is famous for defeating the British fighter that had previously beaten many Chinese Kung Fu fighters. This was the MMA of the time. He was a hero and famous in China for his achievements. This is the lineage of the Tung (Dong) School of Yang style Tai Chi Chuan.

The white man in the video is actor, Paul Drake. For Clint Eastwood fans, Paul played the main villain in "Sudden Impact". He was the psychotic rapist/killer who Dirty Harry kills in the end of the movie. He gets shot and gets impaled by the horse on the merry-go-round. He also played the main robber, "Phillip", in the strip club scene from the original "Beverly Hills Cop". He's the one with the shotgun that Eddie Murphy flips over and arrests. He had lots of other roles too. He should come back to acting. He made a great villain.
