I pride myself in not just accepting anything I hear in life, especially given there is so much disinformation on the internet. I came to hear about Dr Meyers talks/books from reading science based books and how every now and again the author would talk about how convenient the world and universe was for our existence, not just our (human) life but all life and matter as well as the universe. After 10+ years of researching this topic, looking at both sides of the argument with a very open mind I have come to the conclusion that ID must be behind it all. Having faith in a religion and this topic of ID is up to the individual of who or what is behind all we see but one important factor hasn't been addressed, the future. In my eyes it's easy to see what the future holds for humanity, clearly, at some stage will develop the ability to download our consciousness into a VR world where anything is possible, the benefits of this to humanity will be immense, no need for resources, physical land, wealth, image, heath and the most important thing, time. Being immortal will allow humanity to travel to the farthest reaches of the universe and being non organic, that can fit into tiny spaces and can shut down for long periods (even send a copy while still having normal life) will see humanity master everything the universe holds. How is this relevant? Well if this mastery of time, matter ect is the natural path for humanity who's to say this hasn't happened before? Lets not forget we are only 4.6 billion years of Earth's exitance into a 13.5 billion year old universe, time says in religion only 1000's of years but who's time? I think (given the chance) we will one day shake hands with our creator or even work with them. Do I think each individual step we take as humans are overseen? no but I do believe how we are judged/helped and the VR world I was talking about before already exists, religion calls it Heaven and when we die we are judged for entrance.

Dr. Meyer is a gift, but this interviewer needs to work on his interviewing skills. Stop interrupting, stop cheerleading, and be prepared with a decent set of questions.

Disappointing. I appreciate the arguments for intelligent design, but the "divine" origin of morality or the pretence to prove "god" are inexcusable absurdities. I also find it ludicrous that somehow one is supposed to identify "god" with the barbarous invention of the judaic tribe. You simply are products of the American culture.

Its simple! INTELLIGENCE CREATES! unlike the concepts of infinity and multi verses . To discard an agent that can create thought and art and manipultes perameters to create nuclear fision,clouds,rain,snow,ice,wind mars rovers cell phones, jets, rockets,electricity, inferno's hotter than the surface of the sun,mathmatics,and the list goes on in favor of some nebulous unprovable infinite universe concept is simply unscientific absurdity. Prove infinite universes exist and can create then maybe your theory will be as plausible as an intelligent creator but as it stands now there is no logical argument to be had. Intelligence is the only known creator in the cosmos..

It's much cleaner and requires less unsubstantiated theoretical commitment to posit that the universe arose from natural causes than from a "mind." I prioritize parsimony and reducing theoretical commitments in my metaphysics, so I reject Meyer's theory.

What natural causes created the universe?

@@MFletch87 I see no evidence of it, so I see no reason to believe something like that. I find Meyer's efforts to anthropomorphize nature pretty stupid.
@hiker-uy1bi11 күн бұрын
@@nunca789 I could posit that the quantum fields and vacuum energy which led to the big bang are natural entities that have always existed and don't in and of themselves need a cause because they are necessary physical features of reality. None of this requires me to adopt ridiculous baggage laden theories about a "mind" and other anthropomorphizing with no empirical backing. Meyer's creationist shtick is idiotic. I can appeal to much better naturalistic metaphysical explanations than theistic ones while taking on less theoretical commitment. It's an easy choice.
@nunca7897 күн бұрын
@@hiker-uy1bi Let's skip calling things ridiculous and idiotic, okay? On the merits, the current secular scientific worldview states they've established that everything about the Universe started at the Big Bang, or in the quantum theory arena, at a singularity. That means that every aspect of the Universe including those you refer to, had a beginning. If you disagree, you're free to take it up with those scientists and theorists. To claim these two features are "necessary physical features of reality" does not change whether they had a beginning or not. Your theoretical commitment, as you stated, is to features of the Universe having existed for infinite time. That's real tough to prove -- although you may feel comfortable saying the words. You end up having now to explain the origins of things that are of infinite duration -- unless you just assume them without proof. If you assume them without proof, then you have to explain why they don't end at any given instant -- or why they are not intermittent, or why they don't change once in a while. And, as much as you'd like to jettison the concept of a "mind," you have to explain how those two eternal characteristics -- apparently having no ability to imagine a purpose, form a plan, carry out engineering, and deploy foresight in all these stages -- managed to invent the "mind" presumably you yourself claim to be exercising. I don't sense your "natural entities" explanation got easier, but only harder to accomplish.

I’m an agnostic atheist; I don’t know whether there is a God, or even whether one is possible, but I don’t believe that there is because I’ve seen no evidence to support the existence of such a being. When I look at the world, I see exactly what I would expect to see in an unguided, natural world.
