We off 2 Artist Panel products (Smooth and Canvas Texture) that are primed for oil or acrylic painting and ready to use, but you could mount canvas to them if you like. We also offer a raw basswood Artist Panel for artists who want to prepare their own surface.

Do you need to treat the Aquabord before applying Watercolour using Ali's techniques Wonderful video, sound it just in time for my Christmas List 2024 :)
@AmpersandArt
@AmpersandArt Ай бұрын
@@Gothxuk There isn’t any preparation needed, but painters will sometimes “flush” the surface with water first and let it dry to a slightly damp feel (not dripping wet, just cool to the touch). This is especially useful if you’re doing broad washes as air in the coating can rise up through the paint as little white bubbles. It is not necessary for detailed, small brush work however,

Excellent instructional video! Beautifully made frames. I use these Ampersand floater frames often and have a couple of tips. 1) Attach the hooks and wire as the first step, before mounting the artwork. This provides more freedom of movement while drilling and screwing in the hooks. 2) If framing a flat panel, once the panel is placed and the cardboard spacers are in, when you flip the frame over to drill and add the screws, the cardboard spacers can dislodge. The spacers are bearing the weight of the force as you drill. I arrange books under the panel so the cardboard spacers are not touching the work surface. This keeps the spacers from dislodging as you drill the pilot holes for the screws. 3) The finished wire length should be just a tad longer than the distance between the eye hooks. When the frame is hung you want the wall hanger to be within the opening of the back of the frame so the frame is flush to the wall. If the wire is too long, the back of the frame will bump up against the wall hanger provided.

can you use the same techniques with watercolor on aquabord on this to add some pastel on top?

You can, but only to an extent. The texture of the Aquabord surface is less than that of Pastelbord, so layers will be limited, but pastels can be used to add marks and accents.

@AmpersandArt 3 ай бұрын
@@ps.6023 It is a completely different surface coating, so while you can use watercolor and gouache (for example) on Pastelbord, the texture and absorption differences will make blending and layering work differently. It is definitely used for this purpose and you may find that you like it! The surface does allow for very nice glazing techniques.

Can this be done with a screwdriver only? I don’t have a drill😅
@AmpersandArt
@AmpersandArt 4 ай бұрын
It can be done, but could risk splitting the wood. It would be recommended to use an awl or another sharp point (push pin, thin nail) to start a guide hole first. This would make it easier to start the eye screws and the reduce the risk of the wood splitting. Thanks!

These Gessobords are my absolute favorite panel for oil painting. The surface quality has just enough "grab" and there's an overall beauty to how paint adheres to this surface. Terrific for my portraits, plein air and still life work. I'm sold on these non-warping, archival panels and I purchase mine from Jerry's Artarama. These Gessobords are non-toxic and made without formaldehyde or other toxic materials - so there's no off-gassing like with MDF panels. Thank you Ampersand! I couldn't be happier.
