@benspeedschannel888 yeah no dout! I could have bought 100 for 12 dollars but probably never be used in ten lifetimes lol so opted for the higher price per unit. Oh well Bezos can get himself an extra dubble bigmac on me. Guys got to eat and wouldn't want him to go hungry. But yeah probably could find them way cheaper just not my field of expertise. Ya I thought it was a pretty cool way of shutting up that light without fully disabling it. It has other functions too like letting you know when the kickstand is down. @lipsee100 Ya Harleys definitely holds value. I bought this one for 400 bucks off a buddy. I work with that hauls and deals junk on the side. So hes like a go-to guy for all your junk needs, lol. Someone needed it gone because their underground parking was getting renovated. So it was situational, I guess you could say. I've also spent about 300 so far on parts so far getting it up and running for the road. It's definitely a good deal so far, and Im having a blast riding it. There does seem like there are a lot of these types of bikes selling for cheap in my area. In various states of condition and price points. Mostly low in price. @vadersfather1248 Hi, sorry I didn't get back sooner. Sounds kinda like you're having what's called a lean pop. It's really hard to know, though, without actually seeing the bike, but that's the direction I would start looking. Usually, a lean pop can happen when the engine has an intake leak. Like a vacuum hose is cracked or bad manifold gasket. Look for a vacuum leak around the intake area. Get the bike running and spray brake cleaner around the intake boots and vacuum lines, throttle area too, and if you have a leak, the rpm should change. Most likely, rev up but could stumble too.Your carb could need a clean, too. It's so hard to tell from away. That bike I think has cv carbs to so could be a rip in one of your diaphragms to idono. Cheers!

@CenterStandMechanX
@CenterStandMechanX Ай бұрын
Good question Max . There doesn't appear to be any cotter pin type of mechanisms that would keep the nut from backing off but the nut itself looks to be a self locking type with an extra locking washer built right into it. It's on the outer edge towards the right of the machine if placed correctly. Possibly it is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I think it will need to be replaced. Probably worn out. Cheers!

Yes I 100% agree and will be doing so. I wasn't prepared to find it like that and would have done it but didn't have a new sump cover gasket for the job. I had problems with it leaking before and RTVed both sides of the gasket last time I took the cover off and will need to order a new gasket and have it on hand when I change the sump filter. I've got the filter just didn't want to risk having it leak again. I plan on changing both filters again very soon. I'm still trying to work out some bugs with the engine. I keep finding the oil quite black after only running it for short time. I suspect it's still running a bit rich and struggling with these old carbs and cheep pod filters that obstruct air flow. FYI, I’m 37 y/o, new to your channel here and to owning a motorcycle. After days of researching what sort of bike I think I would enjoy, looking over the online inventories of every local power sports dealer filtering out any condition except used and deciding to aim my efforts more directly towards the person who is trying to trade or sell their bike that I am interested in and in our current era the people have determined FaceBook Marketplace so I spent several days combing through the hundreds of listings that returning in the results when searching for generic ass “motorcycle sport standard”. Then went through the first list to pull out a short list. One bike caught my eye. I don’t know shit about bikes really.. I mean, I’m a man and can do figure out a motorcycle I just haven’t had opportunities or urges to seek them out. I like “vintage” stuff sometimes, especially when someone who’s is green to bikes has a hard enough time trying to pick out the brand new one from the 40 year old one, and that’s what I felt about these Honda’s. Also, that particular Honda looks as if it just rolled out of factory and it has no damage, scratches at all, swirling in the paint, signs of wear in the leather seat, markings on the brand new looking tires, I couldn’t find a spec of dust on top of the bike nor a spec of grease or dirt on the underside anywhere. The paint is immaculate and the decals look new.. It’s a “1981 Honda CB650 - Standard” with 5,000 original miles on the odometer, and it was listed the day before yesterday for $2,500.. So I get in contact with this guy selling it after researching that particular motorcycle and he tells me about it, everything was standard and as I expected it to turn out, then I went out to eat a late lunch/early dinner with my mom. Well, as soon as I got back home I opened the for sale listing for the bike again to gaze at it a bit more and noticed that within the last couple of hours the seller dropped the price by $500 to a now new price for this bike, $2,000. I called the seller back and said I’ll take it, I can come out to pick it up Thursday after you get off.. Seller tells me that is fine but if someone else comes through on Tuesday and buys it, I’m SOL.. Which is to be expected,. However, he offered that I send a $100 deposit (money talks, he knows I’m not bullshitting now) and that he would consider a $100 deposit to mean I’m invested in this transaction, especially since I was asking him to pull it off the open market just by my affirmation to him over the phone that I would be buying it. So, i sent the $100 deposit and will be driving the 2.5 hour trip one way to meet the seller and pay the balance, then load the bike on my truck. Anyways, that whole story to say that I just bought a 1981 Honda CB650 with 5k miles on it and in brand new condition cosmetically for a grand total of $2,000 and a tank of gas to go get it and bring it back home.

Hard to believe but it true. 500 bucks was more money in those days for sure but I was able to do it as a dishwasher in a local restaurant with not much trouble. Don't remember it being to hard to pay for. Anyway nice bike would live to see some pictures of it. Not sure how to do that tho. I will be doing a video on my cb650 coming up in a month or so. I haven't done a cost analysis yet but got to be close to that. Not including time witch wasn't really going to be part of that for me. There are some incidentals that would have to be factored in. The next phase of this build will probably bring in some more costs as I truly Zombify the bike into my vision. This first part was to get it up and running and usable now next will be the customization portion. The really fun part and yes most definitely will be updating the channel with lots more content of the bike. Next video I want to build the front fender so that will be coming out soon. By the way, I have a temporary solution for the timing tooth-out problem. I have put the electrical timing problem aside by grinding a bit on the point main plate to be able to adjust the point right in sync with the piston position. Ignoring the cam valve error at around 10 degrees, still give me an appreciated improvement on motor performance and smoothness. Soon I will be able to deal with the REAL problem, and take the engine out of the frame. The first gear jumping out when on a bumpy dirt road is still a mystery. Any suggestions on this from anybody reading this? Serge. NZ.

@serge8400 I tried messing with the points plate too and couldn't get the points to fire correctly even with the few extra degrees. This is where I stopped myself from doing more crazy things and looked into the cam being out. It's was one of those inconvenient truths that I didn't want to have to go there but in the end it made all the difference. Before I retimed the cam properly the engine was backfiring a lot preventing it from revenge up untill it got past a certain rpm then it was more responsive. This might have been from the centrifugal advanced kicking in and alowing it to run better in a way. Skipping one tooth made all the difference. As far as jumping out of first gear. Not sure. Have a look at your drain plug magnet for metal chunks or the remnants of a small cotter pin or pins. You can also take the clutch cover off ,take the plugs out and spin it over with a 1/2 drill and run it through the gears and look for problems while you shift through the gears. Get one of them bore scope cameras and look down it to the transmission and see how everything is shifting. Cheers

I was pretty careful lining up the timing marks when I put everything together, but ya never know anything is possible. One thing I was thinking of looking into but haven't yet is pulling of the charging rotor to see if the woodruff key is sheared a bit or completely. It could explain things a lot if it was. I don't know for sure but I've seen that type of thing in similar situations and caused a lot of problems. I do agree with you that something could be off. Cheers!

I just came across your channel, I’ve got an ‘80 XS 400 that I have similar plans for, I was hoping to get a bike with points as well for the same reason but I got mine cheap so I wasn’t going to be too picky, I’m starting from the beginning of your project because ours seem to be very similar design and I’m excited to see how yours will turn out

Awesome! That's great. We're like apocalypse brothers, lol. Ya that be a great choice to the xs400 for sure. Ya with points . I would have definitely done that if one came up available in the sort of condition for an apocalypse build. The bike needs to have been around the block a few times if ya know what I mean. Welcome to my channel. Hope you enjoy. I'm still currently working on it and putting out more videos about the build. So far, I'm at Part 21, but there will be many more. I try to get at least one video a week out on it. I work full time at my regular job, so I usually only have the weekends or some evenings to work on it. Thanks for watching Cheers!

@@CenterStandMechanXthanks for your reply! It’ll take a while to get caught up but I like the detail you get into, I was forced to go a different way with mine as the frame was chopped so I had to modify a few things like relocate the regulator, fuse block (which I upgraded to spade fuses) and solenoid, also running a dual sport tire on the rear so I can do some light off-roading. Do you have any social media pages to post your bikes? I’m very interested on the direction you go with it

Probably cuse it probably get to busy managing all that stuff. Idono. If I ever grow the channel big and can do it full time might think about that. I currently am a one man band. Do all my own editing and stuff so it's a lot to learn. One thing I want to get into coming up in the build is making my own 2 into 1 intake manifold and go with a single carb and also want to make up my own exhaust too. Would like to have both pipes wrap around and come down the kick stand side together up high like a scrambler. Think that would be so bad ass. All in due time tho. Cheers

Something that’s worked well for me with gaskets is to put RTV on one face of the gasket and grease on the other, usually the gasket will stay put on the RTV’d side and not tare so you can re use it 👍
@CenterStandMechanX
@CenterStandMechanX 5 ай бұрын
Oh ya thats a good Idea. Yeah I like that. Then it doesn't tear up when you go to inevitably take it back of for some kind of service. Might have to try that one. Some of the gasket are home made cardboard ones that I was lathering up with the rtv for maximum seal of endurance. With the hopes of never having to take it off again witch is probably short sighted but heavy on the maximum! Thanks for the tip

Lol I want people to watch from the beginning and see it evolve step by step but I understand it's a lot of content to get through. I wasn't intending for it to take this long but I've had a lot of hard issues to solve with it. Haven't spent much money on it though. Been fairly inexpensive project so far. I invested in a few more tools for this job tho but they will help me on future projects. Thanks for watching! Cheers!!

I think I’d have probably filled the whole engine with diesel or kerosene and heated it up from under the sump, get it hot and let it cool a few times, works wonders for stripping engines in that sort of state
@CenterStandMechanX
@CenterStandMechanX 5 ай бұрын
Thanks ya I definitely thought about doing that for sure but after talking it apart I could see there was no way I was going to get it turning again . I think in a different situation that probably would work but this thing was absolutely seized up tight. So much corrosion in the cylinder on the right side. The left cylinder was actually not to bad .after I got the cylinders going again filling it up with diesel would have probably been a good idea. The transmission was pretty tight to but I emptied probably 3 cans of WD40 down in there and got things moving again. I plan on changing the oil quite a bit a first. I keep buying the cheapest stuff I can find and running it on that. Then changing it out

Lol yeah it has been a ruff ride so far but just posted part 21 and things are shaping up well ! Usually people don't start with a bike this bad. It had a lot of problems and the guy I bought it off of considered it a parts bike not worth trying to get running. Actually when I bought it , I bought 2 of them at the same time and the other bike is the one that was supposed to be the good bike to fix up. I guess I just like the ruff look of this one and fit the zombie theme so well I started working on it first. The other second bike that's better I'm probably going to do a different build series next year with. It will be more of a normal rebuild project. Fixing it up nice as close to stock as possible. This current project however gives me a great learning experience for when I do up the nice one.

About to start my own restoration project, not going to be a zombie proof but hoping it will look pretty sweet in a year or two. That technique to remove the shifter is genius, could be used for the Kickstarter and rear brakes on my bike so I'm sure it will come up at some point.

Yes, it's definitely the best way to get those types of levers off. Be sure to take the bolt all the way out, too, if you don't already know. It Kinda has 2 functions. Clamping the spline closed and keeps levers on if it gets lose too by way of a recess cut into the shaft . You might have already noticed this already, but sometimes it gets overlooked. Good luck with your next project. I love having a project going. Very good way to fill in some extra time. Have you already picked out a bike you're going to work on? Or still looking

I have another bike now (My first 'big' bike) and the Lifan was surplus to requirements. Most people I know would get rid of it but I love it too much and it's being such a great bike, It's not going to be a full restoration as I don't believe such a thing is possible but it's certainly going to be looking pretty sweet by the end of it.

Kerosene is used over other liquids because it has a higher flow rate with that being said in open air it will evaporate leaving it for 2-5 minutes would do. Testing valves is the only think i know about nitro funny cars.

Uhh that's a good question. Hopefully not to much longer. I would like to start riding it to work in the spring but ya never know. It's been taking me a bit longer than I expected tho and I've had a lot of problems to sort out with it. The bike was in really bad condition when I started and was skeptical about it when I started. I think most of the biggest problems are worked out now. I will probably get it rideable soon but upgrade things as I go. I'm only working on it part time in my spare time so life has a way of getting in the way some times but I'm determined to get it done. I thought about painting it camouflage for sure but not sure if I will or not. Haven't decided yet. Definitely would be cool idea. I'm hoping to have a video out really soon with it running good. Thanks for the clip. Can you put a link to the pedal please? Was it (the foot pedal) Suzuki OEM or third party? What year is your DL1000? Do you think it is the same as 2020 1050 XT? Mine is a bend a bit, is it wise to heat it up and straiten it?
@CenterStandMechanX

Hi ! My V strom is a 2007 . I got the foot pedal on ebay for around a 100 bucks. I doubt it would be the same as the 2020 1050 xt but ya never know. What I do when looking for parts is use a parts selling site like partzilla.com or snowcity.com and use their parts finder to look up the part and get the part number. Then once you get the part number for whatever it is you need you can put it in a Google search bar or ebay and search for your part . Can't remember if my foot pedal was oem but I think it was not sure tho. Whenever you bend metal back like a bent foot pedal, it gets weaker and there for less dependable. If you need to make a panic stop .You would most likely putting maximum force on it and having it break off could be life changing. That's why I replaced mine. Not worth taking a chance for 100 bucks. It's easy to change.

@@CenterStandMechanX you are right. installing a new one is the right way. Also thanks for the "search" tips .... oh one more question ... what are your thoughts on folding pedals. I see two sides, 1) it will fold (and not bend/brake) if contacts the pavement, 2) some believe the pedal is the canary in the coal mine. It will protect the rest of the engine.
@CenterStandMechanX
@CenterStandMechanX 5 ай бұрын
@TheMontaseri I like folding brake levers. Little extra give is always good. Especially off road. Less likely to snag on a branch or root whatever. Rocks and tight places. I guess it just depends on what kind of riding you do. If your mostly on the road go for comfort and safety. One thing I notice a lot for myself that is a bit of a nuisance is when I move bikes around in my small back yard. I've got a few of them and the foot pegs and brake levers catch on each other. The bike I'm moving snags on the other bikes parked near by and can be a bit of a pain. Folding ones would be more favorable. Idono not a huge deal but could be if I knock another bike over by getting caught up on it.
