It looks like the step over 7D is still more the Path geometry, where you can’t really do flat foot comfortably like on the step through or the regular non electric Townie. I think that was a bad move on Treks part. You have to go for the more expensive version to get the step over flat foot. The crank is only a few inches forward of the seatpost but in the womens bike it’s the normal 6 inches which gives you that comfortable easy flat foot feel. The 7D step over for men is more like a regular bicycle in that regard.

Excellent and useful comparison. Just be aware, the suspension fork on the Marlin (and all bikes at this price point) is a useless gimmick included because kids think suspension is cool. It is when it’s of better quality. But at this price point it adds five pounds of weight to the front end and will barely even activate under the weight of most young riders. Take note of the weight comparison. Same frame and the Marlin is 32 pounds to the Wahoo’s 22. 32 pounds is ridiculous for young kids (my full suspension size large 29er is lighter than that). The air volume in the Wahoo’s tires provides more than enough suspension for most kids, plus the less aggressive tires will roll much faster on pavement and smooth trails. Also, the 2x drivetrain on the Marlin is outdated and adds weight and complexity kids don’t need - and you’re the one who’ll be adjusting it. The Wahoo is 1x8 but has a similar overall gear range without the front mech. Way, way better. I bought two Wahoos for my twins. They are excellent and can ride all but the roughest of trails with me, but also have a bike much better suited to the kind of riding kids do 99% of the time.

I just got the FX3 today and I really love it’s smooth ride, shifting and responsive braking. I can’t wait to take it on the trail tomorrow!

Excellent comparo between these bikes! I'm an experienced mountain biker and bought Wahoos for my two kids. They're fantastic on pavement, and I've done plenty of laid-back off-pavement riding with them (relatively smooth, flat trails but with some rocks and roots here and there). The Wahoos have held up fine for this, no issues at all (I just air down the tires a bit for trail riding). And the 1x8 drivetrain is, well, as beautifully simple as the 1x12 drivetrain on my mountain bike! :-)

To everyone reading this, i just wanted to say this was my first high end bike I purchased (I always had the 200 dollar bikes that break down fast) and this bike is my favourite “toy”. Very very highly recommend to someone who wants their money worth. So fucking fun to ride.

I have had my FX 3 going on 3 months now, and have put at least 6 miles a day on it. I do use all three ranges on my bike, there is some pretty good hills here in Reno Nevada. The bike handles pretty good and I love it.

Just put over 4000 km on my fx 3 disc.... no major issues, bottom bracket go a little loose at 400 km, and a flat at 4000 km. I absolutely love the bike.

I just sold a domaine slr6 disc with the 32 wheels about 8.6kg, super comfortable and fast down hills, lost control on a decent and went back to my 6 yo 7.5kg caliber brake bike very happy, Domane entry level is great for commuting but to call it a grand fondo bike is a bit of a sreatch
