I really loved getting to know Alexandra through this interview. Most of all I love how she includes God in all she says and does. We all want a close relationship with God. To be special to Him too.

We're also celebrity-obsessed. I think our pride and carnal desire often drives us to attempt to sound a certain way and accomplish certain atmospheres...to the detriment of the actual authentic expression of that loval gathering. I also think the "team" dominating the experience restricts the congregation as a whole from participating in the expression produced....

Very beautiful! So brilliant dear, I love every piece of it, it's such a blessing to me and I hope to your listeners. The bible says: (JN 4:23) "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks" May God continually anoints you to come up with greater things in all you're doing in Jesus Mighty name Amen. Stay blessed ❤ ya!

Thank you so much for this. I heard Bob in Colorado Springs a few years ago. I remember how impacted I was by a man who had to speak softly. The wisdom and insight was profound. The philistine cart teaching was my favorite and he addressed it here on this recording as well. Thank you for putting to words, Bob, what I long to see unlocking “the song of the people.” Such a timely word for me. I am so glad a friend shared this with me.

Thanks so much for this convo. There's a lot of aspects that hit for me, Especially in a situation having to drop out of a band that had some things going to focus on our family situation, and going through some depression. Lots of important reminders. You sound like great guys to get coffee with someday. Peace out from Poland.

As soon as he started talking about when he was in middle school it all started flooding back and I knew he was gonna say Yo-yoing. I remember hanging out with Sean and the Bellarive folx with The Digital Age guys at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Oklahoma and Sean pulled out the yo-yo 😆. I think I have the video somewhere

I love what @seancurran is saying but I am also super super confused. I mean, how are you not the quintessential hype, celebrity type of guy @seancurran? Am I the only person with that impression? The time I went to a LIFT creative conference and saw you I could not help thinking how much hype there was. I don't mean to be overly critical & I am more than open to be shown mistaken! Maybe I just don't know christian music enough and there are other artists out there who are much more celebrity & hype driven? The clip just sounds as if suddenly Madonna was giving me a lecture on the importance of modesty. Thoughts anybody? Thanks!

I don't think we will ever escape the celebrity status in music. Period. The music captures us so completely that we look to the source of that music (the artist) and exalt them. The skew happens there; the artist (in this case Sean) is not the real author or creator. God the Father is the beginning and the end. So we're struggling as a Christian culture to grasp how we reguard artistry, and how artists themselves carry themselves and the massive stage they occupy. I've been a writer/worship leader for a long, long time and I've had a chance to get to know several of these men. Most of them are simply amazing, gracious, humble, good humans whom God has chosen to put on that massive stage. Not all of them. I believe Sean is one of the good ones.
@chinchicharrin3 ай бұрын
@scottharrison7182 Hey Scott, thanks for sharing. I believe you when you say that Sean is a good one. I didn't mean to say Sean isn't. But from my limited perspective, it's really hard to see how the culture he inhabits and promotes is not celebrity culture. And, making room for complexity, I think it's perfectly reasonable to believe he is a good guy and means well while believing he is the epitome of celebrity culture. I've been to Passion (lift conference) and I've seen him sing and play. I've seen the piano in the middle of the stage with the dramatic entry... I've seen the lights and the screens. It's all big and incredibly produced and flashy. Do they mean well and are they worshiping God? Yes! Is it celebrity culture? I mean, what's the difference between a passion event and a coldplay or any other big concert? Size and money in some ways, for sure, but the form is basically the same. Now, again, I am not a musician and I am not in the middle of the action, so again, my perspective is limited, but it is not hard to imagine a culture of worship in which big and flashy and cool and hip and trendy are not centered and prioritized.
@scottharrison71823 ай бұрын
@@chinchicharrin Man, this is a good perspective. I love your thoughts and I think your honesty is inspiring. I hear everything you're saying, and what I think we're hearing is the struggle and battle within Sean about exactly what you're saying. I've listened to this podcast a couple of times because it's so rich in things I've embraced as a leader and implemented in our teams. One of the worst things about Christian music, is the expectations and pressure on you as a "signed artist." It can be frustrating, and you can feel encouraged to do things that speak more to influence, hype, artistry, exposure and visual impact than moments of intimacy and leadership toward God and the presence of the Holy Spirit. I can't comment on Sean's heart, but I think we're hearing the inner battle. I also know that when an artist steps into a conference or large concert venue, there is sometimes an overarching "scene" that they're involved in, and there is a great possibility that stepping into that arena/setting puts you into a place where that's the way it's gonna go for that particular experience. I don't know that, and I think our artistry needs to take a back seat to character and caring for experiences. Again, for me personally, I'm hearing that from Sean in this, and I am inspired by it. It'll be interesting to see how he expresses his new music in public forums and concerts/conferences, and to see how this narrative plays out in his stage presence. I love this conversation bro. Again, just my thoughts.

David - thanks for this wonderful, insightful interview with John Michael Talbot. I heard John Michael many years ago when he performed in St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, Ireland. It had a profound impact on me. He spent at least 30 minutes in silent prayer as people filed into the auditorium before taking up his guitar and praying through his music. Thanks John Michael for your tips on how to pray each day, the importance of contemplative prayer, and your insights as to how you, as an artist, seek to discover the song in the music, much as Michelangelo did when trying to find the figure in the stone when he was sculpting. Inspirational, in the true sense of that word! God bless you both.

Not just underlying values, but underlying beliefs and convictions that predisposition us. If we do not have a conviction that Christ is present by his Holy Spirit, that he can speak to us, and we can respond to him, if we do not have the conviction that he manifest through the body, ministering life through the body to the body ... I could go on and on ... but not just values but underlying beliefs and convictions can determine whether there is a merge of the flow and a surge of the wave.

Oh wow! What a beautiful interview, I have thoroughly enjoyed it, very insightful. I love minister Ron Kenoly. I was introduced to him and his music in 1993, after being born again at 14 years. At church, we used to sing his songs and other musician's songs (Bob Fitts, Morris Chapman, and other Integrity Music musicians). My very first cassette was his Lift Him Up album, followed by Jesus is Alive, God is Able and many others. I listened and bought cassettes of the other Integrity Music albums. My non saved family members and friends loved Lift Him Up. We would play it at our family gatherings to a point where my brother and I would buy the album and present it to them, even though they were not born again. That's a special album. My love and appreciation of musical instruments was born from the Lift Him Up album. 31 years later, I still love and listen to this minister of Christ. Wow! Minister Ron Kenoly is loaded, full of the word, always has been, so is his music. Bless you. Love from South Africa

Why does the interviewer calls mr. Kenoly by his first name? It is not respectful to call someone way older than you by his or her first name. Only if mr. Kenoly agree to be called by his first name. I think this has something to do with culture?
@JuliaThuston6 ай бұрын
His name on all his CDs Ron Kenoly. It his professional name. That is what most would call him. Bishop Paul Morton has that on his albums. Mr Clean Bishop Richard White but Marvin or Cee-Cee Winans. It depends on your professional name unless maybe at a church service.
