If you would reel it faster, they wouldn’t choke the bait so much

Always happy to see dragonflies when I am fishing. They prey on deer flies and mosquitoes, and having them around keeps the little biting bastards away.

Crocs are really good for wet rock walking. I use them for fishing on wet jetties and the traction is surprising. I've fished the lake since I was a teenager but have never been below the dam.

If you want to see some cool airplanes you could launch around Poquoson or Hampton in the Back River. The F22s from Langley AFB fly over Hampton and Newport News a lot, especially on clear weekdays. You can fish or launch at Gosnold's Hope Park in Hampton and get a great view, plus fish around the marsh.

Thanks for making this video! It was helpful in our decision to give this spot a try. We were there yesterday, it was our first time. The water level wasn't as deep as in your video. There was hardly any water over by that bigger spillway. Could see a couple large fish but the water was too shallow and too clear so they were pretty skittish. Biggest thing we caught was rock bass. Do they adjust the water levels here often? We'd like to tive it another shot sometime but don't want to make the drive if it's like it was today.

Thanks for the comment! That was also my first time up at Raystown Lake, but I use a few online tools to check water levels, tides, wind patterns, etc. before I take some of my longer trips to new spots. The USGS water data site is super handy, and the direct link to the meter at the dam is here: waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/01563200/#parameterCode=00065&period=P30D&showMedian=false You can see data for up to the last year on most pages on the USGS site. Good luck next time you head up there!

What a beautiful place it is that you're fishing, it's really a shame that the snakeheads have taken over there too because they're so invasive, from what I've heard Koreans have set them free in the United States so they can eat them

Can you spot crabs on that fish finder? Their getting better and better so I'm hoping to see one that does soon if they don't already.
@go2outdoors
@go2outdoors 5 ай бұрын
I honestly haven't tried to find out, but probably not. Crabs tend to stick right on the bottom, so you really wouldn't see them on sonar unless they were swimming, but then it'd be pretty much impossible to tell the difference between a crab or a small fish.

Great video, what a fantastic day to be out there! I think perhaps you should experiment with waiting another second or two before you set the hook. I give them a full 3-4 seconds after the take before drilling them. I say to myself "that's my frog and you can't HAVE it!" (whack them on the word have). Funny and remarkably effective. Keep it up!

Here in Jersey, we are finding that the largemouths like to eat the snakehead fry, rather than the other way around.

@@andrewhayes1420 Absolutely true. Bass, catfish, and even some larger panfish LOVE to eat them… no sharp spines anywhere. Snakeheads are nowhere near the terrifying monster fish that the media wants people to believe. … blue catfish are actually a much bigger problem, but that’s a conversation that nobody wants to have, because of how THOSE arrived.

@@go2outdoors I think 10, 12 years ago, the fear was warranted. We simply did not know how their introduction would impact ecosystems, and invasive species have historically been terrible. In this instance it just...did not happen, and we need to move on. The hype has died down here, and only fishermen really care about them at all.

That toad looks cool, but the body is kind of thick. (I pulled it up on Amazon) I'm not sure the hookup ratio is all that good. Zoom horny toads work well because they are thinner. What launch did you use if you don't mind sharing? Absolutely gorgeous morning.
@go2outdoors
@go2outdoors 6 ай бұрын
I've used the toad to good effect on largemouth in the past, but yes, it is a bit thick for a lot of snakeheads to eat properly. They have rather small mouths for their size. As for the launch, I've been to five different spots on the Rapp at this point, and I can confidently say that if you find the pads and hydrilla, you'll find them... kinda want to keep this spot to myself for a little longer haha.
