If you're someone who is a fan of old-school arcade boxing games, then is the game for you. That's right, kids, everyone at Hamster has just announced that they will be bringing Taito's 1988 arcade boxing title Final Blow to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 later this week as part of Arcade Archives series (thanks Famitsu for the spot!). Originally released in the arcades back in 1988, Final Blow was later ported over to several home computers and consoles in the years following its release, including the Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64, FM Towns, and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. All of these ports kept the same title, except for the Genesis version, which altered the name to James "Buster" Douglas Knockout Boxing, to act as a licensed tie-in with American boxer James "Buster" Douglas. It is not to be confused with Konami's similarly titled boxing game The Final Round, which was released the same year as Taito's effort in 1988. However, we should mention that that game is also available on the Arcade Archive lineup as of earlier this year, if you're interested in checking it out. In Final Blow, players can either choose to embark on a single-player quest to become the world heavyweight champion or compete in multiplayer bouts against a friend. There are five boxers to choose from on the main character select screen (including Dynamite Joe, Fernando Gomez, Kim Nang, King Jason, and the Detroit Kid) with the remaining unselected fighters acting as the opponents you'll have to face on your way to victory in single-player. The action is presented from a 2D perspective and features an energy bar for both fighters. This is what you will need to drain in order to knock out your opponent. There are also some neat voice samples for the referee and the trainers watching from ringside, as well as an interesting hidden Easter Egg that you can trigger on the game demo by entering Up, Down, Left, Right, Up, Down, Left, Right. This will flash up an icon of a mouse and dog (signifying the game was developed by Taito Central Research Laboratory). So, if you're interested in picking up this game, how would you compare it to that one done by Konami? Stay tuned to find out tomorrow right here on Arcade Archives.

The "Arcade Archives" series has faithfully reproduced many classic Arcade masterpieces. Players can also compete against each other from all over the world with their high scores. Please enjoy the masterpiece that built a generation for video games. *The options menu and manual are available in Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.

The 1985 release Konami's Ping Pong Table Tennis is self-explanatory. It's Ping Pong featuring Pentarō from Penguin Adventure in the title screen and the crowd. Not many table tennis video games (besides Data East's Flying Power Disc Windjammers), with the other notable title being Rockstar San Diego's Table Tennis. The game was ported to Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum by Imagine Software (1985-1989) while the Famicom Disk System version was done by Nintendo (1987), renamed Ping Pong and Smash Ping Pong respectively. Despite downscaled audio and visuals due to limitations of the time, the computer ports retained the arcade gameplay. It's worth noting the FDS version replaced Pentarō with Diskun in the title screen and Donkey Kong Jr. in the crowd. The arcade and FDS versions were globally reissued on Krome's Game Room, Nintendo Switch Online and Hamster's Arcade Archives in 2010-2024. *Pentarō returns for Konami's Ping Pong Caravan!*

Time traveling is such a poignant concept in itself and this video game was able to weave that otherworldly feeling mixed with everyday human emotions into its narrative, to construct a jrpg Magnum Opus

Here's a little special surprise for you gamers; the folks behind the Arcade Archives have announced that the next Konami classic they'll bring home to modern consoles is Konami's Ping Pong (or Konami's Table Tennis for American gamers). Originally released in arcades in 1985, Konami's Ping Pong - as you probably guessed - is quite a unique take on the popular sport of table tennis, where players are able to compete in both single-player and multiplayer matches. The first one to reach 11 points (or higher if you're not leading by two points) is the winner, with players having a few basic moves at their fingertips to help them get an edge on their opponent, including a powerful smash attack. In addition to appearing in the arcades, the game was also released for the MSX and the Famicom Disk System in Japan, with the latter changing the name into Smash Ping Pong. Yeah, what an odd name, but you'll take it for granted. Meanwhile in Europe, the game received ports for various microcomputers, courtesy of Ocean Software's Imagine Software label, for platforms like the Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, and ZX Spectrum. The Disk System version has since appeared on the Wii and Wii U Virtual Consoles as well as Nintendo Switch Online. All of these reissues were Japanese-only, so no international releases would ever happen. The arcade version was also previously made available via Microsoft Game Room for Xbox 360 and Windows computers in 2010 and was available internationally. As for the Arcade Archive release, how come the name has changed into Konami's Table Tennis? Well, stick around as we find out tomorrow on Arcade Archives.

But do they even have the expertise to do it properly...? I would rather much have the unreleased Wii compilation with QoL updates.
@Aurik-Kal-Durin7 күн бұрын
@@ShiryuGL Of course they do. They've ported a lot of a old games to modern consoles. They just did _Star Wars: Bounty Hunter,_ and it was good. The one game that they screwed up was _Star Wars: Battlefront: Classic Collection._

You still active on KZbin? Legend! I played this with my dad growing up as a poor family. I was born in 99 but I had a megadrive and dreamcast meanwhile everyone else had a ps2 or an Xbox or gamecube. I loved sega! 2 was my favourite, then 1. Then I never really played 3 as it scared me for some reason. I think it was the difficulty level for the European release being bugged. I also love sor4 with my dad. Shiva was always my favourite character

I've been following the project. I think its very ambitious. They are exploiting some PPU feature where they can use some sort of 8x1 attribute. This is only present on the NES and how the console was made. They are also bank switching graphics all the time to achieve all this animation. Somehow their mapper, the XMX allows for more tiles to be on screen than a regular NES game too. It just shows that with enough knowledge and passion you can produce an impressive game for any console. I would like to see someone do this with the SA-1 chip on the SNES. A huge CD rom game on the Super Nintendo.
