You did a great review. I was going to buy one of thee with the bottom and frame. Now I'm not going to buy one. The last thing i would want on a mattress is to have a raised edge all around the sides. I'd never get any sleep with that.

Hasnt anyone with a C2 noticed the terrible stink that these give off? its a ,sweet, mediciney smell that doesnt seem to go away...I had one 20 yrs ago and got it for a sleep trial, it had that same stink and I had to return it...

I was just in a Sleep Number store yesterday and all the display beds were inflated to 100%. Perhaps your explanation is why. Thanks for the information, as I was quoted $11K for a king-size base, mattress, headboard brackets, remote, and two sheet sets. Before I purchase a bed, I will go back into the store and lower the pressures to see if it bothers me. That said, where did you find a Sleep Number mattress for $750 (6:29)? Excellent information. Yesterday I went all around town trying out different mattress brands. I tried out a Sleep Number all the way from P5 to an i8, I could tell immediately that this style of bed is not for me.

The C2 is literally their cheapest mattress. We have the I8 with the Flexfit 2 base and absolutely LOVE it! Seems that most of the people who have issues are the ones who buy bottom of the barrel and expect top of the line.

Problem solved. We bought the Sleep Number C2 and the queen mattress topper from MyPillow. The combination enhanced the whole characteristics of the bed. Amazing comfort, no sunken feeling no bed anomalies, and still adjustable. Bought my son same combo everywhere he goes he tells people about his bed. Mattress only $1167.56 (with FORCED shipping/setup and taxes). Mattress Topper $297.00. Basically, turned a $1000 bed into a $3500.00 bed. Note: I reused my box springs and frame. Install techs reversed the hoses. Make sure yours are correct or your bed may suck/blow and you do not know why.

I have a 3" memory foam mattress topper on top of my sleep number bladder, which makes the foam border a non-issue.

I am thinking high end coil beds with a nice top cover are the best. The foam beds you sink in a little like quick sand. Own problem is you can't switch positions so easily. There are issues with the Sleep Number bed but my parents, two brothers and a friend from church have the Sleep Number beds and they are say they are amazing beds. Sooo after going to the Sleep store m, we ordered the P6 which is their higher end mid level bed. They had a small sample of the P5 and P6 top and the construction once inch higher P6 just seemed to be worth it especially with the $300 sale on the bed right now. We have to wait a week for delivery. I will say the pump is quiet thst it should not be an issue.

We’ve had our i8 adjustable bed sleep number for 7 years. Paid close to 7k for this% nothing but problems. Initially the mattress was sliding off the frame constantly. We had to buy a bar to put at the bottom on our own as Sleep Number could not remedy the problem. Then it turned out the shark bites that hold the mattress to the frame were defective and ripped the whole mattress cover. The company after a lot of argument with them sent us new shark bites which were supposed to be better. Only when we went to install them we found out the whole outer cover to our mattress was ripped to shreds from the shark bites. After threatening to sue Sleep Number they sent us A whole new outer bed. When we opened up the bed we found out the phone was completely deteriorated and ripped. We have now had this bed for another five years and the outer cover has torn again and the foam inside the bed under the bladder is also shredded again. What a waste of money never again

Just today I started to look at the cheapest C2 bed and watching your video has made me make up my mind. I'll continue to look, but for now just keeping my present mattress. The problem I have is every mattress I buy develops a valley. My current one is only about 2 years old, and of course, you can't flip modern mattresses due to pillow tops. My old mattresses lasted years and years because I was able to flip them over and prolonged their life by many years. BTW... the C2 is the cheapest, and the website shows it at $999 plus $200 for delivery (which I find a huge ripoff). Why should delivery cost $200?? I just don't get it.

Latex mattress factory has a great topper for this bed. To size. Latex is better than memory foam.

Try a latex foam topper to compensate maybe?

This is such an honest humble and useful review. After watching a few other ones with issues, it still seems to me that the company might be able to send you interior foams that would cover the edges too so you won’t be aware of the needed edging. I saw several different kinds. Can’t hurt to ask them. I do like the idea of being able to replace parts as they wear with this. All foams and padding depress and degrade over time. Being able to zip a part off and repair or adjust to your aging aching or broken body is a great part of this. My dad bought a similar non air bed and it offers these options. I have issues with the split frame, making it hard to find sheets and to make the beds. We wound up using king sheets and rarely use the adjustable base. I think the split top mattress looks clever, but wonder if finding sheets is a nightmare. I cannot believe your wife couldn’t find memory foam to put in this mattress to meet her needs. I think she needs to come clean and admit that she just likes sleeping alone, especially if you are tossing around. We are fed a story that we should sleep with our partners when married and the reality is that we are all different, snore, fart, hurt, moan, sing, pee all night and more as we age. There is no foul in having our own sleeping room with visitation rights. I think it is time we just plainly say it the way it is so people aren’t embarrassed. You have done a great job here of doing that and helping others avoid these issues. I also recommend if you REALLY want to sleep together and have the space, get a king size bed. It makes an incredible difference and really helps solve some of your complaints. I have no idea how people slept in those itty bitty beds of the past. Clearly they were physically much more exhausted than we were, or there were more men sleeping by the hearth or in the barn than the books tell us. Do post a follow up video. I really am curious to hear how this has evolved, because you are such a clever honest resourceful person, and beds also change over time, so we can hear how it is holding up mechanically etc. If not, I u derstand. Days are long and it is better to rest first. Good rest and love to you and your wife too. You sound like a great husband.

This was really helpful. Our current memory foam mattress is awful. I’ve been researching mattresses, including the Sleep Number. The intimacy concerns are important to me as well, regarding that center divider, but I won’t ask about that here.

I'm putting this out for anyone who is thinking of buying a sleep number bed, or any bed for that matter...READ THE FINE PRINT! We ordered the C2 bed from Sleep Number about 3 weeks ago and the guys delivered it on Friday and set it up. Right away I knew something was wrong. When I ordered the bed I wanted the mattress that split at the top so you could raise each side independently. What showed up was a solid mattress and a platform that raised both sides at once. When I ordered this bed after getting off the phone I was still worried and wanted to make sure I was getting the one with the flex split top. So I called back less than 30 minutes after ordering it and talked to a lady and she assured me that I ordered the one that split at the top and raised independently of each other. Then Friday this bed showed up. So after a phone call and nearly $400 more for the right bed to be delivered in another 3 weeks, the guys left. Well let me just say, we were not happy with this bed from the start. I set my side on 40 and then 50, but if I sat up in bed I was bottoming out on the platform. And if I raised it up to 60, 70, 80...it felt like I was trying to sleep on a life raft, bouncing all over the place. I called the next morning and cancelled the whole thing and told Sleep number to come get the bed. Here is the "I should have read the fine print" part. You see you can't return the base, that's right folks, if you don't like the bed, you can send the mattress back but you are stuck with the base, unless you want to pay an $800 charge for them to come pick it up of which the guy informed me that they have to destroy all mattresses and bases that get returned. So I now have a $2000 base that I am going to have to go out and buy a traditional mattress for. Again that's on me, I'm here to just warn folks, go to a sleep number store or whatever store you want to buy a bed from and lay on the beds, heck take a nap on one and try all of the pressure settings. I ordered mine over the phone since the nearest store is close to 3 hours away. I gave the review one star. Not because I think the bed is not good, I’ve read the reviews and a lot of folks like the beds, and that’s fine, I gave it 1 star because the return fine print should be the same size as the 100 day trial notice. If I would have seen that you couldn’t return the platform, that would have made the decision for me. So now we are returning the mattress, and will have to pay a fee of another $249.00 to have them come get the mattress, and give us some sort of kit that allows us to put our own mattress on it….oh and a remote control to raise the bed. I will say one positive thing about this whole process. The person I talked to today on the phone, and yes I realize the conversation was being recorded, they were so understanding. Not that they could change the policy, but I have never started out so mad at a company and ended the conversation feeling calm. That is one job I know I could never do. Kudos to Sleep number for a well trained staff. Too bad the return policy isn’t up to par.

We have been sleeping on a sleep number for 5 years and just purchased our 2nd one for our guest bedroom. We placed a $100, 3" memory foam pad on top and have not looked back. Best mattress we have ever had. The 3" memory foam pad on top is the key, then you never know there is foam around the edges.

I had one in my camper and fell in love with it. I just got my new bed yesterday. I hope tomorrow with my sons help I can set it up and try it out. I have a bad back and know this is gojng to help.

I once owned C2 or C4 don’t remember which but my experience was fair to poor. The very first 48 hours the pump failed causing mattresses to deflate. Over a 8 year period the air pump had to be replaced three different times. My air pump was prorated over a five year period and after that you pay a whopping $500 for a pump. The mattress ticking was poorly sewn and even the plastic foundation warped which caused a rocking motion. Oddly enough the air mattress themselves never failed but the O rings on the hose connectors did fail causing air leaks. When you have problems customer service makes you jump through their battery of test which involves disassembly or switching hoses or capping off the air valve on the mattress etc. If your old or have limited help your in for a real struggle. I really believe one needs a bed pit crew with spare parts to keep this bed running properly. There are too many parts which will fail. If you have a low sleep number you may find yourself experiencing the dreaded trampoline effect or sliding onto your partners side of the bed. The best thing about owing it is the bed actually sleeps very good. I’m currently looking for a new mattress. I remembered how well the Sleep Number bed slept but also that was only when all the parts were working.

Thanks for your review. You mean to tell me this bed has now given you marital problems because now you and your wife can't sleep together in 1 bed. The mattress has to go! Look at it! It should be called, build a bed... As much as these mattresses cost now, sleep number should be ashamed of themselves robbing customers blind.
