I'm amazed how elegant and graceful these blue bloods were on the East Coast. They were American royalty. Our debutantes that filled the newspaper headlines and social guestlists in those days. Family name and honor would get you into the finest private institutions to form the education of future political leaders. The women were prepared for their role to marry and entertain the most educated and well bred of society world-wide. That's why their parents wanted them to speak French, learn the Greek Classics, and World History. People were not only educated but had to entertain. They were expected to play an instrument like the piano, sing, recite poetry, debate on social topics, dance, and this was all to marry well. Once you were married you had four nice children, and they would be expected to be raised by nannies, instructed by tutors until they went off to boarding schools. This priviledged life wasn't easy, as the children of these families like their grandparents in the Civil War era were not at liberty to choose their destination. Their parents did.

5:15 "Do you think my costume looked alright for Brooks?? I think he was a little amazed, you can't be too careful." Whenever someone quotes Little Edie saying how awfully difficult it is to keep the line between the past and present, they *always* fail to mention that she was referring to how men like her gardener Brooks may be crazed predators that want to somehow harm her because of her revealing revolutionary costume. She didn't make some profound quote. It's just a backward and ignorantly snide remark, especially seeing how Brooks wasn't paying her any mind at all. She only made the remark because like you all do, she believes that every man like Brooks is obsessed with women like her, and that's absolutely ridiculous. Brooks wasn't in any way impressed by her costume, he wasn't even bothered enough to finish listening to her talk about the price of food going up being the reason for wanting to grow a vegetable garden in the first place. . Revolutionary, huh?? A revolutionary nut .. 🙄 Brooks probably had a beautiful wife at home that knew how to keep their home clean; didn't have fleas, or smell like cat / opossum *P*. Swimming in the ocean doesn't count as having a bath. The bald chick up the road that lives in filth and squalor aren't the type of women that men like Brooks dream of bedding.. But, keep telling yourselves that every man like Brooks is after your smelly coo coo ca choo..😂😂

Capote’s “affect” was silly and verged on sickening. He whored himself out to anyone who paid any attention to him. I thought his writing was boring and horrible. He at least got the “exploiting” correct. 🤢

I don’t think it was anything to do with them “Having no idea how to look after their home” Their relationship was a very Co-dependant relationship, they both had poor mental health and faced rejection off of people they loved and trusted. They both had their own aspirations for their life and they didn’t achieve them.. they had a lot of sadness in their life.
