What RPM for Wax and for polish?
@yachtworks370
@yachtworks370 11 күн бұрын
Hey Lee, anywhere from 1500-2000 will be fine for polishing, whatever you’re comfortable with…. waxing doesn’t have to be that fast and can even be done by hand , just let the wax sit for a 5-10 mins before wiping off (not in the sun , don’t let wax dry) Best of luck to you !

How is your work process? 1. Pick a square like in the video, rub, polish and wax and the take the next square? 2. Rub the whole boat, in squares, Then do the same with polish and wax? 3. skip the squares and just work your way around the boat one step at a time?
@yachtworks370

Good questions… I buff the whole boat first (also helps to keep your buffing pad from drying up too fast) , then I polish and wax back to back section by section. Don’t need to tape. That was just for demonstration. Unless it helps you. Good Luck !

@@yachtworks370 thanks for the answer, will try it on my boat a weekend soon. Its as matte as your boat on the video. Hopefully it will look almost as good as yours. 👍👍 I think im going for a cordless Ryobi ocilating machine. I dont wax or polish often, but a cable seems like alot of extra work when climbing on the boat (its a hardtop, 18 feet long)

@yachtworks370

Great ! You just want to apply light pressure working it in evenly over each section for a little while and then wipe the polish off really good with a clean microfiber towel so the wax can seal the deal in the next step. Don’t let the polish dry. You got this !

Great video man! My father recently passed and we inherited his 28’ down east boat. It’s going on its 24 season and we have the same oxidation issue. I would love to try and restore the hull like this. Being a 28’ boat would you suggest a gallon of each bottle? Or do you use more of on than the other?
@yachtworks370
@yachtworks370 Ай бұрын
Thanks man! So sorry to hear of your fathers passing, I hope you got to spend time with him. Glad to hear he was a boater and you’re continuing on. I’d recommend having a gallon of the oxidation remover 49 but maybe not necessary to have as much polish. Make sure you wipe off all the polish with clean microfiber towels and then apply the wax and let it sit for 10 mins or so before wiping that off. Best of luck to you !

@@yachtworks370 thanks man! I really appreciate it! One last question ha. Do you think a cloudy over cast day with no rain in the future is good to do the buffing ? I have one side of the boat that is always in direct sun light so im hoping the cloud coverage will be enough to allow me to do the buffing. What do you think?

i've been doing detail work and this type of stuff for a few months now. I have asthma and am worried about it a little bit. Should I be wearing a mask for any of this stuff?
@yachtworks370
@yachtworks370 3 ай бұрын
I wear a simple mask if products are dusty and I wear a good respirator when using toxic products like bottom paint for example that give off harmful fumes. I personally don’t think it’s necessary for polishing but can’t hurt. I have a bit of asthma myself. Side tip: I found the Wim Hof Breathing technique a few years ago and it helps me with that as well as many other benefits. Search for “Guided Wim Hof Method Breathing” and give it a try when you are laying down in a high oxygen low toxic environment, I.e. at the park near trees, or just near an open window with trees outside. … here’s a good Respirator mask : amzn.to/3UrBhrm Good simple masks : amzn.to/3SJS8nP

I assume you are talking about the formula for area of your boats bottom correct? If so "0.6" is exactly what it says. So you add the beam and the draft then multiply that by the waterline length. Then you multiply that number by 0.6. Is that what you wanted to know?

It depends on what paint you use. A good Multi season paint can be $300 - 450 per gallon. Single season paint can be much cheaper at $100- $175 ish. The primer is also about $180 per gallon. The sander is around $70. Discs maybe $20. Towels and brushes etc maybe $50 combined. Good luck !

@yachtworks370
@yachtworks370 9 ай бұрын
Thanks ! Ya , I did put a spacer in just not on the video … it comes with the buffer. Presta I have found to be a bit too wet sometimes and not enough grit. I think it’s better for mild oxidation and very large projects as it doesn’t gunk up as much. However if I want a job done quicker I like the meguiars and I just get another pad when necessary or clean it out. Presta is also twice the price or so. Anyways… Thanks for your comment !

@yachtworks370
@yachtworks370 11 ай бұрын
Check with your specific paint , but most ablative paints say within 30 days as they are somewhat activated by the water. If you have a boat that’s been hauled out for a while you can give it a very light sand with higher grit to open up the anti fouling ingredients again before splashing.
