As a Glaswegian, I have to say that if you do visit Scotland, avoid Glasgow at all costs. We seem to have a totally incompetent bunch of people planning traffic and roadworks. Driving anywhere near the city is an absolute nightmare these days, even for residents who know the place inside out. You will get trapped in the pathetic traffic systems, endless one-ways, and abysmally timed roadworks. We also now have miles and miles of cycle-only lanes cutting down road capacity everywhere and which are NEVER used - I have yet to see a single cycle on those lanes. All this can make it almost impossible to get to from A to B. You can lose hours trapped driving like this and I guarantee a frustrating and upsetting experience. AVOID GLASGOW if you want to drive and stay sane. It is seriously the worst traffic planning I have ever witnessed in 60 years, and by a huge margin.
