the soviets could have improved significantly, by sitting in cover with all units and just shooting when the range dropped to 1 km. the americans got a bit lucky, but not very much.

I initially though of waiting and I believe I point out a location, but I could not wait and opened up at a longer range.

@@campsawyer it's not clear to me that the soviets could ever win, however, because the american force is vastly superior. cover gives the soviets about a 2-1 advantage, but the american force is 4x as big. thus, as soon as any soviet unit shoots, the americans can just obliterate it. then it's a question of who gets 5 hits first, advantage to americans. anyway, just an introductory scenario

@@victorfinberg8595 They can win with the Firefight II rules that I used and a little more luck. I did not play this way as I wanted to use typical setup that one might use. Think in more of a ambush attack and check the lines of attack.

just off the top of my head, these american tanks should be shooting in the 1.5-2 km range, whereas the soviet tanks are pretty much wasting their shots outside of 1 km. the t-62 does carry enough ammo that it can afford to "waste" shots, however. of course, any hit is a kill here.

One of the first SPI games I ever purchased. Got lots of play out of it. Still own. This scenario is introductory. Add artillery (indirect fire) and smoke can be placed between the tanks which will give the US side a decided advantage in this scenario.

Thanks for the view. I agree nice little scenario and I am told its main function was to show the lethality of modern weapons.

Thanks for the play-through of this classic SPI game. I still have mine. I got it when it was introduced. Regarding the victory conditions, unless you modified them, they require the US to pass five tanks through any hex of the town. There is no requirement for the Soviets to destroy five US tanks.

Very interesting, thanks. Those old games have something that make them charming, beign it the graphics, the theme or the game itself. I wonder how the original military version differs from this one...

Thank for the view. Good point, when I looked at the shot and th e PzIIIF penetration v armor, I noticed it did not have a good chance of penetrating. In hindsight I should have probably shot, hoping for a Track hit.

As the Germans only seemed to clear the hill on turn 22 and there was no turn 23 do they still gain the 450 victory points?
@campsawyer
@campsawyer 28 күн бұрын
Thanks for the view. Your question made me look back to check and I noticed something else, the variable end means that the turn is the last turn and ends after it is played. If the Germans hold the hill at the end they will have the 450 points. I will play this out in the near future.

I don't believe you can set up breastworks where artillery are. Also I think you have to set up the breastworks with the units that you set up you can't move the units and then place the breastworks.

Tempting, tempting. It is a series commitment once you get in. After this I might be tempted to create some British-German 1940 matchups now that there is the early British armor in North Africa. Some sort of home made Arras battle would be interesting.
