Hi frogdaddy, l could you let us know which light fixtures you use?

In my experience, one of the best ways to ID Buf (other than when combined with Amel, which is typically a pretty easy call) is right after hatching. Buf hatchlings, when compared to their siblings, will look more brown or will look more like they are already in shed. It actually becomes harder to ID them after their first shed sometimes because the color expression is so variable. Most will be easy to ID after about a year and half also :).

Although absolutely beautiful (I want some :), Carol's LBR "Weirdo" line is not the same thing as the pre-established mutation named Weirdo by Catherine Turley back in 2014. Weirdos are actively being produced by SMR, Ferrell Captives, Sarah Mohr, (me next season hopefully 🤞), et al., so IMO we probably need to be calling Carol's line-bred snakes something else to avoid confusion.

Beautiful Snakes !! Question. How do you heat those little tubs? Or do they even need them ?
@theherpetoculturenetwork4 күн бұрын
@@Globewatchertrekker they sit higher on a shelf on the windowed side of the room so they get a higher ambient heat up there. Otherwise I would have them on an ultratherm pad with maybe a 1/4 of the rub sitting on that

Curious about Kris's comment on Newport Cal Kings being bred to a Banded Cal King. Was this just a one time breeding? Did you get all aberrants? If so that most likely wasn't a true Newport. Because the Newport is a dominant gene. I have seen this with many breedings with Cal Kings. Even Ross Padilla explains this on his site southerncaliforniakingsnakes, but incorrectly refers to them as Co- Dominant. Futhermore I have proven it to be dominant in hybrid breedings with corn snakes.

NOT CODOMINANT! The distinction between codominant and incomplete dominant is important when talking about genetics, as they work totally differently. Codominant would be white + red = 100% pink offspring. We have no known codominants genes in reptiles. Incomplete dominant would be the animals we used to call "visual hets" and often referred to as "Super" when homozygous (examples in corn snakes are redfactor, cinder, palmetto, and some others). Tessera is a simple dominant gene, that can be expressed with but inherited seperately from the other pattern mutations (stripe, motley, etc). Homozygous tessera and heterozygous tessera look the same, because its a typical dominant mutation! Heterozygous tessera x heterozygous tessera = 75% visual tessera (25% Homozygous tessera + 50% heterozygous tessera) and 25% normal pattern. Most tesseras in the trade are heterozygous, thats why most tessera x tessera breedings result in 25% normal patterned babies. I hope this breakdown helps! Improper use of genetics terminology is one of my pet peeves, so I had to clarify.

So, co-dom vs. incomplete dom. We know. At this point pretty much all of us know. Just like we know IJ is not correct, chondro is no longer accurate, etc… But some of us, despite our best efforts, get caught up in the moment and fall back into bad habits. Like many other slang terms, these things enter our common lexicon, and accurate or not, useful or not, they stick. I personally don’t use co-dom, at least I try not to. But for the sake of keeping a conversation moving, sometimes I just let it go. Some people eat boogers(right out in public) some people say co-dom, today I find myself reading and responding to the comments. Everybody has bad habits, we should all know better, but we still do it occasionally. Keep your dander up, I personally believe that pet peeves and righteous indignation are healthy habits that should be encouraged. We, or at least *I*, hope that nobody will take one episode of a podcast as their entire source of information, and as we continue on this journey, hopefully there is enough joy and solid information to continue being worth a listen.
@dgbexotics5 күн бұрын
@joerosa9034 makes sense, and I don't usually correct somebody right away in a conversation if it comes up, but its not just one video or podcast. I hear too many newer keepers who don't know the difference and constantly are confused and asking about it. So if we all try to use proper terminology, it helps the hobby, science and newbies as a whole. No hard feelings to anyone tho! 😎👍
