I sure was blessed to be rasied in the 90's i miss those days. Welcome Freshman was one of my favorite shows along with All That, and Doug. Merv was my favorite character. I reached out to some of the welcome freshmen cast members. They got back to me and talked to me about how it was on the show
I’m so happy I found this show again 😊😊😊 thank you 🙏🏿

You're welcome! I have all four seasons of it. I'm missing three episodes though. One from season 3 and two from season 4.

Did you have to go through auditions to be an extra?
@DanielleMeierhenryАй бұрын
@Coolremac Nickelodeon extra work was different from most other places as they tended to pull a lot from a talent pool they created from auditions for principal roles. At the time, it was rare to cast a principal actor from Orlando - the big execs just felt that NY/LA kids were inherently more talented 😅 But once they started filming in Orlando, they would at least audition O-kids. Welcome Freshman was, I think, the only show with all Orlando talent at all levels. The Orlando Nick casting directors really advocated for local talent, and would work the kids they liked (but that the NY execs would rarely approve for main roles) into as many shoots as possible. For a little while they experimented with having a small formal studio talent pool of kids hand-picked and specifically coached by Nick talent coordinators that could easily be pulled from for really anything! I was lucky to be part of that pool. There were about a dozen of us. We'd have weekly acting classes & performance workshops. And then when they needed kids for day-players (roles with lines, but whose characters did not recur) they'd just grab some of us instead of having to do full auditions. We'd even get pulled to fill in for the game-shows when a contestant would no-show. And I got beta-test a lot of the Nick Arcade games! But for non-speaking background, they usually pulled from the wider talent pool that they knew and liked from other auditions. There weren't THAT many kids really seriously acting in Orlando. I mean, there were a lot, but you quickly knew which kids were talented & working regularly, and which ones needed to develop more before being able to book.

@@DanielleMeierhenrydo you still act? If so, what recent work have you done?
@DanielleMeierhenryАй бұрын
In this episode at 5:38, Jocelyn Steiner was unavailable for this day of shooting. They were unable to reschedule the entire episode's production to accommodate it, so they justpulled me in to play her part in this scene and a few other shots (most of which got edited). There was a small stable of kid actors that Nickelodeon had in Orlando that they provided extra workshops and training for, and then frequently pulled from that pool for dayplayer roles on their various shows, promo commercials, and/or to fill in when kid contestants for the gameshow were no shows. That's how I got to fill in for Jocelyn this day. Those years were a blast!

You were there? Cool! Were you ever on Get The Picture?
@DanielleMeierhenryАй бұрын
Why, yes. Yes I am the girl picking her nose and belching in 20:25. 🤣 For whatever reason, the director and producers LOVED this scene. So much so that there were briefly talks of making Phyllis a recurring character. As much as I wanted a recurring principal role, I was lowkey happy when they didn't go that way. I didn't really want to be forever known as the "disgusting girl" 😅
