I had my stroke 2009 my cardiologist said closure was in early stages and not preferred. 10 years later he referred me to Heart Specialist who in short told me he wouldn’t do closure because my protein C level was slightly below and I still need to take a blood thinner. He or his staff didn’t call me to discuss it. He just called and told my regular cardiologist

I had on & off swelling, red/discolored staining on both legs, on & off pain, a few ulcerations. I found if I elevated my feet at night and got a good nights rest, things would get better. But the days of swelling became more frequent & I went to 2 mds that both looked at me and said you have venous insufficiency. Wear compression stockings, walk more, yry to lose some weight, & elevate your feet at night. I did all that but this chronic problem gets worse.... A vein center opened up near my workplace. I went for an opinion if there was ANYTHING they could do to help me. They did ultrasounds of both legs. They saw the weak valves. They recommended a vein treatment called ablation which a very tiny needle is inserteed into certain veins & they use radio-frequency to close off the bad veins. I went for several treatments & followups. What an amazing difference. My ankles will get puffy from time to time & the redness on my skin will never go away, but overall, I have had a great improvement. I used to feel swelling and discomfort up to my thighs some days. The treatments are not surgery & are minimally invasive. Although I did not go to this group, anyone having these symptoms can get help. It has been about a year since I have been treated and I want to go back & have another check up as other veins can start to malfunction as time goes on. My Medicare B & Plan G covered everything. I thank God that I found a facility that took my problem seriously. Compression stockings are only one source of help for someone with vein problems.

Elevate the legs. Uses vibration massager. Walk- or move legs - then elevate feet while laying down in 30 minute intervals. Surgery needs to be a last resort!

@@ShannonCraneght you would think. But every vein clinic website says you need to treat immediately or else you will get clots or leg ulcers . Don't delay it says or nothing can be done. I had a procedure scheduled. Then I backed out. Not even two months later the surgeon sent me a letter he closed his practice moved to Florida. I waited. 6 months to see a new surgeon. Jan 1 he sent me a letter in March he's leaving hospital to find someone new? Wtf are the chances of that honestly I mean I'm so discouraged

Appreciate the presentation. From what I am seeing here, the source of the problem are malfunctioned valves. Are there procedures to repair damaged valves or some other method to restore their normal function?
@RG-hf4et
@RG-hf4et 9 ай бұрын
You can't restore vein valves but bad veins can be close off & the healthier ones take over. Read my separate entry.

There is no varicose veins in leg with rash.
@fehryn7369
@fehryn7369 5 ай бұрын
That's not a rash lol. It's skin damage from venous stasis and you can't see the whole leg so you have no idea if that person has varicose veins. When there's swelling it can hide normally protruding tortuous veins.

My doctor refuses to close mine even though it is backflowing right to left and I do have other physical symptoms. He says that it could increase the risk of stroke, and make my migraines worse, and a few other things.... now I'm not so sure, he's supposed to be one of the best in mayoclinic but after seeing this I feel like I need more opinions

Hello I’m just reading your post comment. Did you ever get closure ? My cardiologist finally after 10 years referred me to Heart Surgeon at Morristown University Hospital NJ I went for a consultation. Doctor told me only closing a hole. Did all kinds of bloodwork only later to be told he would not perform closure because my protein c level the clotting factor was low and I would still need to take a blood thinner. Now this Heart surgeon was aware of my stroke in 2009.

I found out that I have a patent foramen ovale at 38 y/o. They didn’t seem concerned. I don’t know if I should be concerned or not. My dad passed away from heart failure (dilated cardiomyopthy) and my child was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. I feel like I should be extremely concerned.

I think you’re alright, but I’d get onto sorting it out if I was you. I found out at 28yrs I had one, and had a stroke as a result of it (I didn’t realise I had it). Reduce your chances of further complications if you can. I didn’t pay a single dollar for all the tests and hospital stays I had, and nothing for the procedure.

It is interesting how the issue of valves malfunction in veins is UNIQUELY addressed in one single way, isolation of the area. Only the method changes. The reasons of malfunction and any other possible way to prevent or reverse are never ever considered. If one does not understand the cause, then he may be going back to the doc every year to isolate another one.

Is it possible that the CVA I had at 6 years old could have been from a patent Foreman oval? Many neurological workups did not give any indication of blood Clotting or atrial fibrillation to be the cause. My question extends to if someone does have this PFO is it likely to close up on its own throughout one's lifetime? Is it possible I still have this PFO if i had it then? I'm 41 and just wondering if I should pursue this line of thinking to perhaps prevent a future stroke?
