I've been trying to grow elderberries for a few yrs. I get alot of flowers & green berries This yr I finally harvested purple berries but only a small amt in relation to all the green berries I had. Put up some netting over top. I did not see green berries on the ground, idk what happened. My plants were 8-10' tall.

Where are you located? Did you have a drought this summer? When did you put the netting up?

@@TheMillersWay I'm thinking I want to move some of the elderberries to the west side of my property. Would you suggest doing this in the fall or spring? Should I prune them to waist high before I move or down to the ground?
@TheMillersWay
@TheMillersWay Күн бұрын
You should definitely transplant them in Spring while they are still dormant. You can cut them to knee high or to the ground, either way, doesn’t matter. They are easier to handle if you leave 1 to 2 feet to hold on to when removing rootball. Do you want to move them or you want to plant more? If you want to grow more, you can just stick cuttings to the ground, they are easy to grow. We will make a video of it this Spring.

How do you keep the press from spinning on you? Mine just wants to turn when we crank on it.
@TheMillersWay
@TheMillersWay 6 күн бұрын
We use a sealed 2 1/2" bearing placed between the base of the acme screw and the wooden plate that presses down on the apple pulp. This prevents the wooden plate from spinning when we turn the acme screw down. You can order a sealed bearing from Amazon, Grainger, or McMaster-Carr. Depending on how the acme screw is set up on your cider press, you can also use a pressure foot. The pressue foot is designed to allowe the acme screw to turn while the foot remains still as it is pressed down on the wooden press.

Do not apply urea at the base of the plant, as it will burn your corn. I have experienced this before. Your method of adding urea is 100% correct.

What brand of canner and strainer
@TheMillersWay
@TheMillersWay Ай бұрын
The canner is from American Canner. If the strainer you are talking about is the basket inside the canner, we will send you the link of it. As far as I remember, we got it from Amazon. There’s so many choices of it there but I will post the link of it here for you to check tomorrow when I get back to the office.

I need a man who understands this concept about canning and healthy eating. My husband doesn’t care much, and if it weren’t for me - he would eat only store-bought hotdogs and pizza. Mind you, I cook really well. My friends are dying to try my food again every time they're around. I wish someone were passionate like me.

So how do you keep racons and squirrels from getting your grapes? I just have a couple vines in my backyard and they almost destroyed the whole crop this year
@TheMillersWay
@TheMillersWay Ай бұрын
If you have a problem with racoons, the only thing that will stop them is an electric fence. You need to put the fence up while the grapes are still green to deter them. We have a fence around our peach trees right now for the same reason. Works well IF you get it up before the critters get a taste of something sweet. Regarding squirrels; that a whole different can of worms! If your fines are away from trees, an electric fence will work if you put about 4 strands of line, about 3 inches apart from each other. This will stop squirrels travelling to your vines on the ground. If you have lots of trees, or even one or two near your grape vines, the squirrels will use the trees to get in and out of your grapes. Hope this helps!

What month , what temperature, when you cutted the scions? No results shown! Crap!
@TheMillersWay
@TheMillersWay Ай бұрын
We collect scions here in Ohio in late February and early March while the trees are dormant. Cut it in 8-inch sticks and put it in a gallon ziplock bags. Roll the bags tight working all the air out and seal. Then put in crisper drawer. No need to moisturize with paper towel. Just make sure the bag is tight. We will make a follow up video of the walnut tree we graft this year to show you.

We don’t have a problem with ours as long as you put a hole in the bottom. We actually did it this year for our peach tree as birds keep peaking off it before it's ready.

Thank you for the wonderful presentation on canning peaches. I was taught when your waterbathing bring to a rapid boil with the lid on it and start the timer and continue with a rapid boil. I really like your idea much better. I must have missed how long do you water bath your peaches. Your peaches are turning out a lot more pretty than mine. God bless you and your family😊❤

What’s wrong with laying the fertilizer down by the base and row of the corn itself? Seems like it will get to the roots a lot faster then so far away, what if the roots don’t even stretch that far out!
@TheMillersWay
@TheMillersWay 4 ай бұрын
Good question. But, Urea becomes a gas in the soil and permeates the soil. There is no need to lay it onto or directly next to the corn plants. Urea is very "hot". If the roots of the corn come into direct contact or too close to the urea, it will burn the roots and potentially kill the corn plants.
