BUT. You have to take it off (3rd solution) every time. It will eventually wear out too. How about a followup?

I've had my REP Trap Bar with 25" handles for about 3 weeks now, and it's a Terrific Beast. The welds on mine are superb. So far I've done Deadlifts, Cambered Overhead Press, and Cambered Zercher Squats with it. Stay Strong!!

Very cool! I never thought I'd see the day that people post KZbin reviews of my upgrades. This just came up as a recommended video in my feed tonight. Though I'm not sure why it took a year to be recommended. First, thank you for taking the time to share your insight this with everyone. I really appreciate that. Forgive me if we discussed this already in the past by email. I figured I'd mention a couple things here for those who follow you. About the friction that you mentioned between discs and plates. It varies from one dumbbell or pair to the next. Due, in part, to inconsistencies in the way SelectTechs are manufactured. But also due, in part, to changing from plastic discs rubbing against plastic covered weights, to cast metal discs rubbing against the plastic covered plates. Cast metal has a slight textured surface. Although I haven't needed to use any with my personal dumbbells, a number of customers have sprayed dry lubricant (e.g. silicone dry lube) on the front and back of the discs and they've reported a significant reduction in friction which was great to hear. Grip wise, technically I do have less aggressive knurls available now. Aggressive knurling has become quite popular over the past two years especially among my Powerblock customers, but for folks who want a milder knurl, I can accommodate that nowadays too. I was so happy to see that everything installed and worked well out-of-the-box with your specific SelectTechs. I love it when stuff just works as intended. I should mention for your viewers that 95% of the time this is the case, but they should be aware that about 5% of the SelectTechs out require jumping through a hoop or two (what I refer to as tweaks) to work properly with the disc upgrade. It has to do with the previously mentioned manufacturing differences in addition to variations due to age, wear/tear and/or damage. Three generations of my disc design and I've not been able to improve on 95%. And finally, I always like to make sure not to give the false impression that these aluminum discs are indestructible. They're tough, and my most recent generation of the discs is my toughest yet. But we are limited in how much we can modify/improve these discs and still remain OEM compatible. As a result, we still should not drop the dumbbells to the floor, even padded, or use them as pushup handles. We must set them down. The forces involved with drops/pushups are significantly higher than what the discs experience from normal use. Under ordinary use, I expect these discs to last a lifetime. However, if ever one fails, you know where to find me to get your dumbbells back up and running. I hope you don't mind me commenting here, and I thank you again for letting others know about your experience with the upgrades. Wishing you and your viewers all the best throughout 2024. Subscribed! Cheers, Joe

Great video, thanks for sharing your solution(s). I just bought a Small Rig cage for my new S5II and I bought the basic cage as I wanted to have two cold shoes. One to mount a shotgun mic (connected to the XLR adapter) and one to mount the DJI Mic (connected to the 3.5 audio input jack) so I could take advantage of the 4-track audio however as you've pointed out as soon as I tried to set it up, I, like a lot of people it seems, discovered that the cold shoe mounts were too big and the DJI Mic receiver just slides through them. I didn't realise that the Rode mics fit ok though but then I haven't had this issue on any actual camera shoes whether it was my old G85 or one of my camcorders like the XA50. I looked at all the gadgets out there like the ones you have mentioned to solve this problem but then I just placed a small strip of gaffer tape on the bottom of the mount like you did with the electrical tape to make the fit nice and snug. Problem solved. I might get one of these adapters one day but right now I've already spent way too much on the camera and rig, so I'll stick with my dodgy gaffer tape fix for now.

My guy…. This sounds exciting. Definitely looking forward for the podcast. Mental health is very important for happiness, but too many people mask it for social media. Nobody is perfect- hell I’m fucked myself going through stuff, but talking with others also going through it makes you feel not alone and worthless. Keep it up! ❤

I just bought the DJI, have a Ulanzi cage, looks exactly like the GoPro cage, and have the same issue. I found this via a search and thank you very much for showing and sharing this fix. Awesome. Would like to see Ulanzi or GoPro come out with an aluminum version or DJI develop a product to accommodate this mounting issue. Awesome. Thanks.

Yea just found this myself. The only thing holding it in is the cable pressure. It seems they designed it for hot shoes only where the hot shoe is slimmer to make the electrical contact. It doesn't work in any cold shoe I have. I think DJI missed the prosumer market here.

Great first impressions review. I’m enjoying the bar as well so far. FYI, if those Fitness Gear plates are your primary 45s, then you’re probably deadlifting at a deficit since they have a smaller diameter than “normal” 45s. It may be worth getting a pair of “normal” 45s to prop your bar up a bit higher. They may help you get into the 500s like you said.

Never should’ve been sent to you like that. It’s not a minor thing if your brand new gear is unusable. Glad they fixed it but QC is lousy to send that to you.

I would reach out to Rep about the rust. I am curious what they say. My theory on what happens is they have stuff stuck in the cargo containers at sea or in the docks for too long and the products develop rust during that time
