Thanks... ns desing I think also makes an end pin kit and a tripod wirh an arm rest that goes against your body depending on the cello model... the cellos sound great but I think ns design is lacking a bit of engineering to make their instruments fully comfortable. .. your video is helpful and yes, we can color outside the lines and press the thumb against the cello neck ... at the end of the day is that you can play it and create your own thing.

Also.. I have an NS Design WAV4 that I can't play... if you wanna make some talking videos you can mention why are you using the german bow on this cello? And how you make the cello look so stable on the tripod. I tried to played the WAV4 on the tripod and wad too wiggly, I like some sort of support against my body for the cello, so it looks good how you can keep it almost without any movements

Would not a electric Double Bass with octave pedal (up) be great as a cello/violin for melodic solos etc? I mean for someone that is used to the bass interval between strings etc.
@TomoyaAomori2 ай бұрын
I was just thinking about that today with my cello.. I wanted to see if my NUX mighty plug pro had some kind of a octave pedal, but unfortunately not.. I thought about getting an octave pedal, but I also don't want to get extra gear that I need to carry around.. I just really enjoy the simplicity of a simple plug like the mighty plug pro..
@marthy9952 ай бұрын
@@TomoyaAomori yeah because i dont really like to play "bass solos" its kind if boring instead of playing melodic like frettles guitar. I have a 7 string frettles bass so that is the plan with that (but than i dont need octave pedal with that range).

Very nice comparison. I am a double bass player and when comparing higher register with cello, the double bass is always falling behind in brightness and projection. Solo register a kind of more muddy than cello. So I was wondering how would sound a double bass with added fifth string for solo work. Have you tried maybe NS design 5 string double bass?
@nathanbegel45052 ай бұрын
There's a tuning that bozo uses a lot and that's been used to play other repertoire and that's high c tuning. You take out the low E and replace it with a high C string: so you have ADGc 👍
@TomoyaAomori2 ай бұрын
No, I haven't tried the 5 string NS bass, but in the past I've experimented with 5ths tuning on double bass (cello tuning but 1 octave lower), plus I added the high E string for the 5th string. I really felt that the 5ths tuning made the bass less "muddy", especially for solo works. Of course you can say muddy is depth, and less muddy is thin, but I was able to play lots of amazing music with that tuning! Of course for 4ths tuning I agree that either solo tuning or having a high C string is pretty common for bass players who want to play high 😁
@AlCaponeBand-o2h2 ай бұрын
I've have seen your other videos on classical works with 5ths tuning and it's sounds wonderful and I agree the 5ths tuning is less muddy than 4ths tuning. The thing is if I add the high C then I loose the bottom end, that's why I was looking for the 5 string double bass to have both possiblities reaching cello high registers with high c and stil having the bottom end. Solo tuning is fine but I play in a jazz trio, so that would be too much work of transposing jazz standards to solo tuning. What I wanted to ask you is what is your opinion on NS design EUB in terms of sound with both pozz and arco.

@@AlCaponeBand-o2h I see. I haven't played NS basses, but I do know someone who is selling a 5 string double bass, if you are interested. Please email me at [email protected] if you are.

Hello Tomoya I love your playing!! When you play acoustic cello what is your favourite pick up? Also do you use the pre amp that comes with it? Do you use a bass amp with this? Thanks!!
@TomoyaAomori6 ай бұрын
Hello Matthew, thank you for the message! I haven’t tried many pickups, but the Kolstein Planetwing pickup is super simple to set up, as long as it fits in the bridge. I would probably do a planet wing pickup to a DI box to an amp. Probably a keyboard amp or an amp that doesn’t alter the sound much? Hope this helps! Thank you

WHY WOULD A CELLO HAVE THOSE UGLY FRETS! You know that you can have frets PRINTED on the fingerboard 😒
@peonerovv17707 ай бұрын
Interesting comment about the vibrato. On a guitar, to achieve vibrato, you would bend the string sligtly up and down (so left and right on a cello). You can only vibrato up, so its not the same as on a violin-style instrument
@Abracadabra2087 ай бұрын
Respectfully, the video title is misleading. I thought you would be demonstrating an archaic member of the violin family that was the precursor to the violoncello. It was slightly larger than the cello that evolved from it, and was sometimes tuned a whole tone lower across the four strings. Antonio Stradivari standardized the smaller, modern cello proportions, and after his innovation, every known bass violin was either destroyed, lost, or cut down to size and converted into a cello. The double bass is technically not a member of the violin family, but related to another archaic family of bowed stringed instruments that predated the violin family, called the viola da gamba. They including treble, alto, tenor, and bass versions, and the modern double bass was a descendant of the "contrabass" rendition of the viol.

thx for this presentation. very cool. question about the frets: are they made of metal, like on a guitar? do they "eat into" (and break the outer winding) of the strings?
@TomoyaAomori8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the message! They look metal, but they haven't scraped my metal strings -- maybe because the cello strings are thicker than guitar strings? I haven't had to change strings yet (been since the summer 2023).
@wolfcomposer48538 ай бұрын
@@TomoyaAomori thank you for the information - sounds good. The concern I heard was actually that cello strings are designed for wooden, smooth surface fretboards and their outer winding is rather thin, making it susceptible to break when using metal frets. Good to hear that doesn't happen. btw, I much enjoyed your Jazz bowing videos - thx.
