Rachael. if you want to operate a HF/VHF/UHF shack at any time, you are always welcome to come and use my reasonably well appointed radio shack in between Wakefield and Barnsley.. Come and visit any day, I am retired so the shack is availabe anytime.. message me at g1mhu@hotmail,com if you want to visit.. The shack is Icom based, IC-7610 for voice and data modes, IC-9700 for VHF/UHF with Sat and limited EME capability, IC-705, lots of test equipment. I can teach you to use FT8 etc.. Robin G1MHU..

Hi : As the club member who streams the net to KZbin I wanted to apologise for one or two poor sections in our live stream . As users of digital radio will know ( and of anyone using an HF radio too) there can be occasional issues resulting in loss of audio . Of course like digital TV it’s more pronounced - either the digital stream is working or it stops ! That does happen occasionally but this net has meant that our club members and friends from anywhere in the world can have a good regular chat about all things radio related . We enjoy running this net and our weekly chat . In last nights streaming I experimented using my IC705 and my computer to listen and my laptop using a DV stick to transmit . This proved to add too much complexity and some more episodes where the stream dropped out . A learning lesson for me ! Radio amateurs know that keeping things simple is usually the best approach . I will return next week to the usual way I listen , transmit and stream ! Best wishes and 73 Nick G4IWO ( Denby Dale amateur radio club chair )

Thoroughly enjoyed the video but a little disappointed that so few of the major figures in the Marconi Company were mentioned. My Grandfather - Capt Henry J Round MC - was an important figure in Marconi's life as his personal assistant and Chief of Research during his long association with the company. Worth checking out his importance by reading WJ Baker's 'History of the Marconi Company' and Raboy's hefty biography 'Marconi'.
@aeriall7 ай бұрын
Sadly it wasn't possible to give credit to all of the people who played important roles in the Marconi Company. This presentation, that was originally given the Mullion Old Cornwall Society, had to focus on Marconi and Poldhu and was necessarily limited by time and scope. I am sure that your grandfather's achievements could warrant a presentation of their own, particularly around his work's contribution to the battle of Jutland.

Who are those tiny, tiny people in the very small window in the upper right? Your opening screen was on way too long. Lets see some antennas, or long wires that are off center fed. I'm 4 minutes in and you're putting me to sleep. Just my honest opinion as I think the subject is great, but the presentation missed its mark.

EXCELLENT. ROFL: My antenna, still in its shipping wrap, has moved from the cupboard to the kitchen - that's progress. It's a 15 metre hamstick which I plan to use as is and also convert to a 40 metres vertical λ/4, using it as a loading coil. I also bought two recommended books from the RSGB. The Antenna Notebook AND Portable Antennas for Everyone.

Superb! Really enjoyed this lecture come lesson or briefing. Can’t wait for part 2. I have built a flagpole antenna, which is an OFCD doublet mounted vertically with no radials. Mainly to use on 40 and oddly 60 meters, and only 20 feet. It does work great on 40 but does not on 60.

I hope all Hounds watch this to learn and understand what is going on the Fox' side and why the Hounds have do do what K7AR tells them. Thanks to K7AR for a good presentation of the FT8 DXpedition mode. The example described from 29:43 where two Hounds were not moved to the Fox' TX frequency is caused by callers using the standard FT8 mode at above 1000 Hz and have checked "Hold TX Freq", which works just fine. However, when the caller does not move the TX frequency, the advantage of a quiet operating frequency is lost, which may jeapordize the completion of the QSO due to the likely QRM from other callers.

de KN2Z - I attended this zoom session yesterday. I must say that Chris did an outstanding job with this presentation and an amazing job of getting youngsters exposed to amateur radio. I've been wanting to do something like this here in the USA and have been waiting for others to step up and help out. Chris has made me realize, yes there is much work to do but I CAN do this myself. Of course I'll have teachers and maybe some parents available to help with logistics but I can certainly get things moving. The thing is, kids will be kids regardless of where they live. I am confident that so many data points Chris pointed out will surely apply here in the US. Thank you Chris. And I look forward to hearing about round 2.

Seems to me the problem is not with any particular antenna, but with the frequencies that have been allocated to the amateur radio community. I’m sure there is a lot of historical precedence and real-world reasons why it isn’t so today, but why weren’t the allocations granted by the FCC originally designed to match the resonances of one very good multi-band antenna. It seems they got pretty close in many cases, but missed the actual mark.
@richardwesterman5773 Жыл бұрын
First of all, the ham band allocations were not granted by the FCC. They were granted by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). Second, the original Windom from 1928 was designed as a mono-band antenna, not a multiband antenna. It was first fed with coax about 1959, shortly after the 15m band had been allocated. It was originally only used on 80 and 40m. The 4-band version was launched about 1970 (80/40/20/10m). So we had our band allocations, LONG before the OCFD was introduced as a multi-band antenna. 73 - de DJ0IP
@axandio10 ай бұрын
Ham radio did evolve with bands being harmonically related. 80/40/20/10 -- but other bands were added as time went on, the WARC bands.
