I love the way this guy paints . Max is not from this planet. The way he sees things is amazing and his process displays that.

A perfect demonstration on how face bone structure determines the shape of the face. Was truly magical to see you start from nothing and see you use the paint to sculp the form into such a realistic representation of the person. Thanks for sharing you process, loved every second of it.

If anyone can paint as well as Velasquez (which they cannot), then use his limited palette if you like. Otherwise, I would suggest using any and every color one feels like. I have seen inordinate energies, research, and money devoted to attempting to simulate methods and materials of the Old Masters. But never once has anyone produced a painting on a par with the Old Masters. Therefore, I tend to feel these attempts are more about hubris than seeking edification and best methods. In this particular video, I see a lot of paint just wasted as the palette knife is overused and wiped again and again. Needless to say, some of us are not impressed by these demonstrations.

a bit harsh, but some truth there

@@dont-want-no-wrench Yes, I agree a tad harsh, but at least my eyes work. I suppose it is inevitable that way too many videos are created, especially on the same topics over and over again. A huge number of videos here have titles like "How to Paint Like (name any Old Master)", and in the end NONE of these videos achieve that or even try to. I would rather they just show details of the original paintings, and simply try to find the words to express how they are great. It takes a poet to express the ineffable!

What brand of bitumen is best for painting? So many products say rubber or primer is added to the products.

If you'd like to make your own, IT's cheap, order some pigment from Kremer Pigments. You can't just mix linseed oil with it like you can with other paints. You have to dissolve the pigment in turpentine and make a paste, then you can mix your oils to grind with. I think it's a bout the cheapest pigment you can buy.

I decided to start digital painting in 2020 using corel painter and learned by watching oil, watercolor and acrylic painting videos on YT. I saw how many people solved their paintings on their. My solution and style came out to be similar to this one actually. I love it being in the raw state to make the necessary changes for likeness before committing and putting in the details. I got pretty decent pretty fast but I am still wasting brushstrokes/time because I am not confident in them.
