I am old enough to remember Duck And Cover in school. I lived my life, awaiting the CCCP and then the Russian Republics' flashing death from above. In my mind, Russia is not that far off from Nazi Germany. HOWEVER...This is a beautiful Anthem. Much more stirring and moving than our dumb Star Spangled garbage. There is a board game called TWILIGHT and its a cold war strategy game played with only two people. I often chose the Soviet Union as I understood the mechanics a bit better, though we were often matched in terms of abilities in the game. But if I ever won, I forced my opponent; then a man a bit older than I, to stand and salute and part of his surrender was to listen to the entire Russian Soviet Anthem. I stood saluting while it played. It was stupid, and meant nothing and I don't know why but I do love this song. And everyone singing it makes you feel like they really truly mean it. I just rewatched Chernobyl and it reminded me of just how terrible the SSR really was and is...but lets face it, so is the US. And when it comes to music, good tunes are good tunes. Whatya gonna do.
